Help Me Selecting a Tourer!

    Till date all the FI bikes launched in India have'nt had any issues with the FI system, if anything has gone wrong, it has been with the systems around that.

    John's case was an electrical fault and not an FI issue.... Therein lies the difference.....

    Don't confuse your liking of the Honda brand with FI systems. Even the unreliable P220 runs on a Delphi FI unit, and thats way more reliable than the bike...

    @Ananth: Riding position is actually a matter of getting used too. No doubt the R15 position is a bit 'sporty', if you get used to it...you can tour on that too and its a lovely bike to tour on. No doubt, it will be a bit stressfull for your body, but heck its just about getting used to it...people tour on the R1 also!!

    If possible take Test Rides of bike not from showrooms, but directly from owners who's bikes have run about 5K kms, that way you will get to know the true character of a bike.

    Btw, my vote would go for the ZMA & R15. R15 more if you intend on touring on roads, but if you want to do off-roading a lot then definitely the ZMA.

      I need not comment here . You have made the point. For me 220 has all that have wanted. Power at all bands, Fuel Efficient considering the fact on highways avg speed is 90+. Good lights.

      Ananth: Bullet would be good provided you are ready to take the hassles which comes with it. But then again, bulleteers dont regret that.

        Yeah exactly. Try telling santosh (ID:santoosh) you can't tour on an R15.

          AREY bhai im not attacking F.i here, im just stating that F.i is an electrically dependant unit.

          i DID mention "electrical fault" post ko padhaiye .

          thing is F.i is also LINKED to the electrical system and any electical problem can HAMPER the functioning of the F.i unit, yes i am fully aware that not even a single Delphi F.i unit on the P220 is faulty (no such reported problem YET)

          but unless the electrical issues are sorted out F.i is still a risk since its not a purely mechanical unit. Unless someone can post a solution to bypass all the other electrical stuff and have a dedicated power circuit for the F.i unit alone (that is isolate it from all other electrical circuits thus making it independant of other problems)

            So you accept that there is no flaw with the FI systems of bikes...

            Btw, linked to electrical or not there have been more cases of the carb crapping out for some reason than and electrical failure causing the FI unit in the bike not to function!

              I have owned both Zma(sold) and R15 and would suggest that you should go for R15 as it has better brakes,handling,fuel economy and slightly better performance.
              Don't worry about the riding position as my height is 6ft1". It will just take some time to get accustomed to the riding position.
              In my opinion maybe after 2 months TVS may launch Menace(180cc) , so you could wait for that also...

                Duhh i can carry an extra carb for Rs 3k and fix it by myself too , can you carry an F.i unit ?

                p.s there are far less F.i bikes than carb bikes still.

                    as if i carry spare carbs along with me that was just a statement if you are more of a pessimist. good, that you trust the Delphi F.i this much. but still.

                    meri dua (not baddua) hai tere saath

                    anyhow in that case                     P220 would be a better tourer than the R15. good Fe, and stable in heavy crosswinds and great lights ! and seating position isnt sporty either. so why not go in for a P220 instead of the R15 ? as if P220's brakes are not good enough.

                    i think the pillion seat is tad hard that's it

                      Phele toh, Im an optimuist in trusting the FI!

                      And the Delphi FI was a example meant to summarise as a whole for all FI units!

                      I am not pushing the 220 as a tourer, coz firstly Ananth doesnt want a Pulsar and the 220 aint no tourer, its a city bike and lets keep the 220 out of this discussion.

                          But that doesnt mean you can't tour on it, heck I have a colleague at work who used to go to Nandi hills on his TVS 50, can we call the moped a tourer? No rite!

                          PS: It was 2600+ kms and not 1000 kms...

                            IMO, 220 is a tourer/city bike. Ananth doesn't want pulsars. So I would suggest him a ZMA. Though the Thunderbird too is very tempting. I would prefer loads of torque in my tourer, that is why I am suggesting these two.

                            @ananth: if you find the R15 very uncomfortable, even after riding around your colleague's bike a bit, I guess you would be looking at the two suggested above. Do let us know your feelings and opinions about these two after you test ride both.

                                @ Ananth : R15 by any way is not considered to be a tourer..!! Its simply a track bike..!! So, if you want to frequently visit the track then ONLY go in for that..! Bcoz it simply lacks the torque which the P220 and ZiMA offer..!!

                                Also, for touring torque is required for effortlessly cruising at 85 km/hr. + speeds..!!

                                ZiMA cruises at 90 km/hr. + at a mere 5.7 - 6 K rpm..!! Whereas, on the other hand P220 cruises at that speed at around 7K rpm(which is basically bcoz of not so tall gearing)..!!
