headshake
so its the front fairing that vibrates ........the big is stable but the front fairing isnt
,it vibrates .......that might happen as its just hinged to the tank (half faring) ,dont know about the P220 ,how it manages not to vibrate like zma...may be the overhang is less in P220 than in Zma
may be??? havent measured it
....but when it comes to stability(i am not refering to the front fairing vibrations...) both are rock solid right

Fairing Vibrations are there even at low speeds in a 220Originally posted by roshan3440 View Postso its the front fairing that vibrates ........the big is stable but the front fairing isnt

. It comes with the bike. Most 220's have them. Even when brand new. Just that some get worse due time and some don't. The ZMAs I have ridden have considerably less fairing vibrations.
Now, at high speed, the P220 fairing vibration is not multiplied. And as Praful said, I too found it more solid than a ZMA. Minimum headshake.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

The fairing vibes are common to all faired bikes in some degree or other. What I have noted is that mostly all 220s have a vibe spot between 5.3K-5.7K RPM. This is where vibes are mostly felt. Post this, the 220 is butter smooth.Originally posted by pranay View PostFairing Vibrations are there even at low speeds in a 220

If any 220 vibrates above this RPM range, better get the balance loading done and the vibes disappear.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

You are absolutely right in this regard. Between 5-6K the vibration is very prominent and there is a 'krrrrr' sound, post which the sound dies out. I have tried this both while revving up and down.Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View PostThe fairing vibes are common to all faired bikes in some degree or other. R15 fairing does not vibrate at any given speed or RPM. It is the only bike to have passed the Wind Tunnel test in India.Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View PostThe fairing vibes are common to all faired bikes in some degree or other. Brother, you need re-evalute your posting style, its Very difficult to understand what you want to convey!Originally posted by roshan3440 View Postso its the front fairing that vibrates ........the big is stable but the front fairing isnt

And its not about fairing vibrations, Headshake means that the front wheel of the bike becomes light and that leads to unstable dynamics of the bike.

I don't know if I have gotten used to it or the mech really did something amazing, I don't have any fairing vibes whatsoever. This was done at the 20K services. Well now I do have vibes, but thats because I have ridden on really bad roads on my last trip to Mumbai.Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View PostThe fairing vibes are common to all faired bikes in some degree or other. Moreover, I've seen that for different 220's its at different spots that vibes come in. But the most common place for vibes is the speedo and its very difficult to damp that!
@NV: There is comparatively minimal vibes from the ZMA faring, and one can forget about any vibes from the R15. Incase, you have seen these bikes with vibes, then I can assure you that its a one-off issue!_________________________

yes, you are right. This is mainly due to the fact that the bike was designed to take a full fairing. Others (220, ZMA, Adreno), it was simply a matter of bolting on using extra support points(my perception).Originally posted by R15Rocks View PostR15 fairing does not vibrate at any given speed or RPM. BTW...I have seen some R15s vibrate and boy do they vibrate...
@andy: you are right...last OT from my side...will talk in the ownership thread.
@praful: There have been a lot of 220s without any vibes. your 220 might belong in that category
. And yes, the ZMA has relatively lesser vibes; not completely absent as in R15.

28K on the same bike, I think you are bound to get habituated. But its not so bad really. Its just that compared to a ZMA or a R15, its more.
@Nirajan: I have seen a couple of R15s too that have really bad fairing vibrations. Both of them noticed it immediately after first service, at Bangalore Wheels. Conincidence?
It is going OT. Ananth, personally, I feel that only you can decide at the end because both of them are good tourers (ZMA vs T'Bird). Both of them are really different in most ways, having advantages and disadvantages. But if I were you, I would go for a Bullet just for the change, as you already have the experience a ZMA has to offer.Last edited by pranay; 01-13-2009, 01:51 PM.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Nope, mine was'nt from the lot where the fairing does not vibrate, my bike is from the older lot thats more than 1 year old now. Mine is a convert, what I am saying is, that the vibes can be damped but depends on the mech's intelligence.Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View Post@praful: There have been a lot of 220s without any vibes. your 220 might belong in that category

And, thats exactly what I wanted to say, the degree of vibes from the fairing is like this P220>ZMA>R15....
@Pranay: Lol, maybe ur rite!
You could try my bike sometime to let me know....RaviKiran was amazed at the absence of vibes. But now it depends on Marie's ability to set it back!
