Good comfortable commuter bike
My dad has decided to sell his Super Splendor and get a new bike. Seems like he ran that bike for 6000 km without oil change and now it seems to be having some problems. So which one should he buy? He is mainly concerned about mileage and riding comfort. He rides about 25 km everyday. He is considering Passion Xpro. I was also thinking about Glamour Fi as I believe Fi bikes will be completely devoid of starting problems like my ZMR. He generally prefers Hero bikes.Tags: None

HERO says their OE 10W30 oil's drain period is around 5k with top ups if required (Though Hero oil will loose their smoothness after some few kms, say 1500km).Originally posted by anilp View PostWhat's the oil change interval for Super Splendor?
I don't think riding a Super Splendor for 6k without oil change should damage engine.
Generally people who ride Splendor/Super Splendor do not mind about periodic oil changes and they do it whenever they get time. But yes, it'll cause a heavy toll on engine if run without required level of oil.

In a city like Chennai, one should never face a cold start issue, even for bikes with carburetor.Originally posted by sarkartheruler View PostMy dad has decided to sell his Super Splendor and get a new bike. But FI has its own other advantages like, improved and linear power, better mileage etc.
Glamour / Super Splendor shares the same engine, if he is satisfied with this engine, then Glamour is a good bike.
Passion X Pro shares the same engine as of Honda Dream Yuga, the engine is new and refined than Glamour's.
Another good option from Hero would be Achiever, it has the same engine as that of Unicorn, you'll get it for around 7k less than that of Unicorn.

I also felt the same. Splendor is known for its low fuss engines. Do get a second opinion on the status of the engine if the oil levels were maintained.Originally posted by SatSon View PostHERO says their OE 10W30 oil's drain period is around 5k with top ups if required (Though Hero oil will loose their smoothness after some few kms, say 1500km).

Re: Good comfortable commuter bike
The bike is more than 6 years old, so feels like going for a new bike.
Regards to FI, I felt the kicker quality was poor in splendor/passion. Yes, even in Chennai/Puducherry I have had to do some painful kicking and apply choke at times for whatever reasons. But my ZMR starts just perfectly EVERYTIME even after weeks. I thought it would be nice if the bike treated him like a VIP that way. Will glamour FI start the same way?
I liked Achiever but he isn't into 150cc category.

Re: Good comfortable commuter bike
Well 6000kms without an oil change is total injustice. How about a human working without sleeping or eating for a whole week? Very poor on your partOriginally posted by sarkartheruler View PostMy dad has decided to sell his Super Splendor and get a new bike. Anyways it happens these days when we have strict timelines to be followed.
I guess your dad has already made a good decision for Passion X-Pro. Please stick to it. Choose a good color BTW and ensure you remind your dad and help him change oil.My DIY(s) - Sprocket bearing change | Paint job | Custom speedo dial
Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

Re: Good comfortable commuter bike
Splendor/Passion kicker slips when the clutch becomes old - if that is one of your concern. I am in Chennai now, and my Hunk with a very bad engine gives me one touch start every day. I need to use choke if bike sits idle for for some 3-4 days. And my Splendor in my native(Kerala) where the temperature is relatively low, doesn't show any issues.Originally posted by sarkartheruler View PostThe bike is more than 6 years old, so feels like going for a new bike.

Starting issues can be attributed to many things - old/dirty spark plug, old/dirty air filter, a very lean carb air-fuel setting.
Glamour-FI also should start the same way as your ZMR, because of the FI.

Re: Good comfortable commuter bike
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, we booked Passion XPro. My Dad has many misconceptions about the disc brakes. He thinks he doesn't need them as he barely crosses 60. I wanted him to take the disc brake version which costs just 2K more. But the salesman there is convincing everyone that front brakes are absolutely useless and a feature that is present only for namesake. He says that people should always use the rear brake only. What a moron! I did my best to explain him that disc brakes can be a life saving feature, but he just wouldn't listen. Not surprising since he hasn't driven a 2 wheeler for so many years.
