  • 0 maintenance bike?

I couldn't find a related thread so i am posting this. My friend urgently needs a new bike.
    His criteria are-
1st and foremost he wants a 0 maintenance bike. He doesn't want any niggling issues.
2nd he needs ample power so he wants 180 cc +
3rd, price is not an issue, budget can be stretched to a couple of lakhs.
4th he wants it for city rides mainly so handling and low end power delivery should be good.

Any help would be appreciated !!

P.S. - HE HAD ENFIELD 350, got sick of all the issues and hence the 0 maintenance criteria

His reason for a zero maintenance bike is awesome
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

      Re: 0 maintenance bike?

Please inform your friend there are no zero maintenance bikes as you can see from the innumerable queries in each bike ownership thread from Splendour to Ninja 650.

If there were a ZERO maintenance bike, everyone would buy it (including me) regardless of what cc it has..

Tell him to read the ownership reports himself of the bike and select which as the least problems.

        Ride safe and have fun.

          Re: 0 maintenance bike?

Agreed to the above mentioned points.. instead of "0 Maintenance Bike" the appropriate sentence would be "Low Maintenance Bike"

When your friend says this.. what does he expect?? because every bike has some kinda maintenance issues.. like the cost of maintenance, cost of spare parts, quick wear and tear of spare parts.. there are various criteria for it.. please do mention it so that we can suggest accordingly..

also go through the Ownership threads and check so that you will have a better idea of what the common issues are of each bike..

So, your friend needs a >180cc bike with *less* maintenance runs right?
Well, no bike can guarantee that!

But, do ask him to take a TR of CBR 250R and Duke 390. Both have their own set of niggles, but I'm sure he would be happy when compared to his bull.
P.S - Nothing against the RE, just that the OP's friend is fed up of them.

Is that person so lazy to demand a "0 maintenance bike" ???? DAMN, even bicycles are not maintenance free!! One needs to take care of it's drive train, chains, brakes etc!!!

                  Re: 0 maintenance bike?

Dude i dont think that there is a' 0' maintainence bike available yet, each bike has its pros and cons and the owner have to go with them. Since your friend needs a 180+ cc bike with say low maintainence then its very hard to get it since higher cc bikes needs more care and maintainence than lower ones, so i suggest ask him to take personal TD and gather information from google...
                  Happy riding!!

                      Re: 0 maintenance bike?

Go for Karizma. Karizma ZMR along with good riding gears and accessories will cost around 1.25 lakhs. Good and reliable engine along with reasonable FE will be handy. Being a Hero product, maintainance is low. Pulsar 220 can be another choice though I am not sure about maintainance part of it. CBR 250 may be little high on maintainance and also not meant for city but a very good bike nonetheless.

I suggested you a couple of bikes already in my first post.
And FYI, cycles DO need maintenance. I spend upto 3k a year on my cycle to keep it fit and running.

Saar, it still needs change of headlamps every now and then! Plus, maintenance costs for the human paddling it.

Assuming that your friend is looking more or less for a "Tension Free" bike, while having a need for power, you have the following choices (in increasing order with respect to power):

                            1. Karizma ZMR/R (both are good bikes with the prior having better mileage)
                            2. Yamaha R15 (great things do come in small packages)
                            3. Pulsar 200NS (IMO the best bike by bajaj till date)
                            4. CBR 250R ( Proven tourer with a lot of juice)

Of lately after going through the 390 Duke ownership thread, I am not really sure if it's a tension/hassle free bike and hence wouldn't recommend the same.

Ask your friend to test ride the bikes and then go through the ownership threads of the same for a better understanding of the respective bikes. Also please let him know that a major factor to having a tension free/low maintenance bike would be the way he rides and takes care of his bike
