  • Great confusion: Trigger or GS150R

    Hi Guys,

I live in Bangalore. I am 24 and an office going guy with height 5'10" and weight 80 kg. I have decided to buy a bike. My office is 15 km away, heavy traffic 80% of the time(its Blore). I may go occasionally for tours around Bangalore on weekends. I looked onto many bikes but finalized only these 2 bikes: CB Trigger-the latest from Honda and Suzuki GS150R. I looked many places but nowhere they compared these two face to face. Both have excellent reviews, but I am in great confusion as both are great bikes, equally comfortable and nearly same mileage. Kindly help me choose among these two. CB trigger looks perfect in all aspects and I may buy it unless I come to conclusion that GS150R is better than it.

I like the looks of GS more than Trigger. My heart says to go with the GS but mind says to go with Trigger.
But based on various reviews I found the Cons of GS150R as:
    1. No Tubeless Tyre (Trigger provides it).
    2. No rear Disc Brakes (Trigger provides it).
    3. People say its hard to control on turnings at fast speed and has higher turning radius.
    4. Lesser service centers and I don't see many GS on roads.
    5. Hard to find spare parts.
    6. Feels heavy at slow speed hence lower pickup.

Only + point for GS is the 6th gear and its nice console.

Kindly guide me if I should go with GS or Trigger.

PS: I don't have a DL yet so no one would allow me a Test Drive.

    Go for a DL first!

      Welcome to XBHP.

      1. Get a DL ASAP!
      2. Both are good machines but I'm not sure if BLR has even 100 Triggers. I have seen only 2 so far. GS is an older bike (launched in 2010 IIRC) and hence people/mech know about it.
      3. You can put TL tires in GS. It has alloys and you can swap tires during delivery itself.
      4. 6th gear helps a lot for effortless cruising on highways. Increases mileage too.
      5. The same weight that acts against GS in city is a boon on highways.
      6. Usage of rear brakes should be minimal. Something in 80:20 range. Front brakes MUST be used for reducing speed and the rear brake simply complements the front. So drums must not be an issue. However, most bikes with discs at the rear hardly have any bite in them.
      7. Honda Trigger shares most parts with the Unicorn and Dazzler so spares shouldn't be an issue.

P.S - Get a DL, TR both bikes and get the one you find better keeping in mind the S.V.C/A.S.S near your home/office.

As the Monk said.. get a DL first!

How will you ride to your office without a DL??

Now coming back to the original question...
Go for Honda CB Trigger after you get your DL....

Reasons: you have mentioned them yourself...

Combi brakes... lesser weight... rear disc brake..... Honda service....

But it will be best if you got your licence and then took the rides for a spin and chose the one which pleases you.

Also, can you buy a vehicle without a licence?
Be a responsible person and get your DL.

Trigger is nothing but Dazzler in a disguise. Most of the spares are shared with Dazzler and Unicorn (remember the engines are more or less same). I like the Trigger very much for its compact look (you might think it as a 100cc bike from a distance) and minimal plastics. Easy to maintain and repair (DIY friendly).

Re: Great confusion: Trigger or GS150R

Trigger is a comparatively new bike and has some goodies compared to GS, as some one mentioned above.
            These include -
            Fully digital console
            Tubeless tires
            Rear discs
slightly better power and light weight
better handling characteristics due to mono suspension
            better service network

            GS has the following pros-
better looks according to me (you also said it)
Very good ride position and ride comfort.
            Very good seats
BYBRE disc brakes in front(not sure about Trigger)

One of the Suzuki dealer said recently that the spared are easily available in most of the loca shops. But I am not sure on this.

Wow what a confusion !! You are pointing to TRIGGER in all ways.

Go for TRIGGER. It is giving me an average of 58+kmpl.
Good to ride it in traffic.
                easy handling. etc.

Ya dude, no doubt about that. Have you taken Rear discs and have faced any problems with the bike? What about the pickup and speed?

                  ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Thanks to all the guys above. I will be getting a DL but not before next month.

Now the comparison, if rear disc brakes are not that superior to drum brakes and TL tyre can be fixed to GS150 which would also increase the handling of GS. Wouldn't it become a better bike than Trigger?

The main concern that remains here is:
                  1. Is GS150 really that overweight and a curse while handling in city's peak traffic when compared to FZ, Hunk, Pulsar, CBZ and Trigger?
                  2. I know the Service center is on my way to office, but still can I trust on a bike which is not so common on roads?
                  3. Can I rely on Suzuki? What if they discontinue this brand like Zeus.

Also how sure can I be that Honda won't discontinue Trigger as its a makeover of Dazzler. And somewhere I heard Honda Service centers are crap

Lol, that's too much of an exaggeration Divya!

But frankly, some cons of the Trigger, as i feel it:

                    1. Looks too small, almost feels like a Discover. Yep, the Gladiator looks bigger in comparison.
                    2. CBS variant is too overpriced.
                    3. Console is too bland (personal opinion)

I'd suggest the GS150. As many have pointed out, as well as from my personal experience, the heavier kerb weight is a boon while touring and the bike can easily keep up with the sportier rivals. Torque is excellent and you'd rarely struggle with shifting gears in traffic. The only bug I found with the GS was that the shifter was quite awkward to work with, and had a longer travel.

PS: As you are in Bangalore, you might find this information useful - KH Suzuki on Double Road are the most decent guys in Bangalore for Suzuki service. However, do not let them redirect you to any of their branches. insist on the main branch. (Source : personal experience)

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

AFAIK, Tubeless tires won't improve handling much, but they offer slightly better ride quality and less punctures.

There's high chance of Trigger facing the fate of Dazzler.
Dazzler and Trigger both aimed FZ and it is obvious from their styling.

Hunx/XTreme weigh more than 145kgs which is close to GS's 149KG.
But FZ and Trigger are significantly lighter at 137 kgs and are definitely easy to flick thru traffic. But once you get used to those heavy machines they will be easy to flick too.
The extra weight will give GS better stability on highways and also the ride comfort was too good when I took a test ride on GS.

Get a DL and take a test ride to decide.

                        Hi,

I own both GS150R and CB Trigger. I find GS a much rounded bike than the trigger. If you compare Engine refinement, Switch Gear quality, Kill Switch, 6th gear overdrive and riding comfort, it is GS all the way. Sometimes i regret having bought Trigger, no such issues with GS ever.

It's almost the same. GS returns me between 40-45 Kmpl. Trigger is a tad better 50-55 Kmpl. But i wouldn't deem this as the deciding factor. GS is several notches a better VFM against Trigger. The only downside is it's size, weight and turning radius but only in crowded parking spaces and very narrow streets. Otherwise a bomb proof bike.

                            On road prices;
                            GS - 78,687/-
                            Trigger - 89,851/-

Both bikes are good in their own way. If you are looking for a tourer, GS150 scores slightly, but the Trigger is not significantly less. If you are looking for a light weight handler for in city rides and occasional highways, Trigger scores. I have used Dazzler (its just a Trigger) for really long rides, and I was very satisfied. The only plus point for GS150R is its 6th gear which enables relaxed cruising compared to Trigger. In every other aspect, including handling, FE, and features, Trigger scores over GS150. Ultimately, its the rider's choice and taking a TD would be the best thing.
