• Apache or Xtreme

Hi All...

I am 5 ft 10" , 80 kgs in Bangalore, office going guy.
I will be driving mostly in City Traffic and trips on some weekends.
I test drove Apache 160 today. Liked the control.

I am new to biking, kindly tell which one should I take.
Apache 160 with double disc or wait for the upcoming Xtreme sports.
If Apache, then should it be 160 or 180. My father asked to take a bike with better mileage.

Opinions please.

Take Xtreme, if you wait for Xtreme sports which would release within 45 days Max, then all the better

so how you know, when a person needs high maintance/ low milage bike?
BTW, the milage of RTR is around 46-48kmpl, which is by no means low. And my RTR 180 is 53K kms old. Milege around 42 kmpl. Talking about high maintainance, the only major expense was, getting the head cleaned at 45k kms(1500/-). Chain sprocket, brake pads changed twice. Clutch plate still stock.

I had an xtreme (sold now) - extremely dependable bike ,tourer friendly -I owned it when Hero and Honda were together .
My dad still uses another xtreme in my native and swears for its comfort.
I stay in Bangalore as well and haven't found a single good Hero SVC . Xtreme has the bullet proof engine and may well be called the 'national 150 cc engine' now that is used in so many models from Ambition to Trigger. Kmpl would be around 40-50 according to your riding style.

I never had Apache nor have much experience with it but my wife owns a TVS Scooty for which I take care of the service and I would recommend the SVC (Neo TVS) over any Hero SVC here.
And the SVC experience changes a lot of things for the end customer AFAIK. If I were you I would go for TVS 180 ABS simply because of ABS.

Just my honest,unbiased opinion ...

As I know the conditions of Bangalore traffic, Apache suits you better IMO. . . It's got good power, handling and performs well and is one of the best bikes for city riding. . . I would say anyday Apache over Xtreme sports as I haven't rode the latter. . . Apache is quick, light and good performer overall. . . Now coming to which Apache, I think you should opt for RTR180, I ride my cousin's 180 and really impressed with it, . . One thing you got to make a change is exchange the tires as they are the worst on a beautiful bike like that. . . Rest all, it's a wonderful machine. . .

Cheers!!!

shadowgun , sambit .. Sorry, just came from office and saw these posts. And yes, I aimed at Gixxer but I am getting taunted by my friends who already got bikes even thou I had planned to get one before them.

As far as I know, RTR160 may give around 43-46 kpl and CBZ between 45-50.
Apache offers bit more power for city riding whereas CBZ gives comfort. I am not sure about how reliable is Apache after 3 years of use. And RTR180 will give around 40 kpl, nothing more than that.

And many people said buy RTR over CBZ because its not at all boring to drive and good for city drive.
I am not inclined towards FZ or Pulsar. Previously I thought of buying GS150 but saw Gixxer is coming few months later.

Re: Apache or Xtreme

@prathappa : Before starting I would like to clarify that I am no where a RTR or CBZ fan, so my view should be taken as my perspective.
Starting with long term usage of RTR180 : I have ridden almost 41k kms in 3 years and I personally never faced any problems with SVC. If I found any niggle, I just dropped a mail and they would treat me like a king. Coming to parts, more or less every bike parts in this segment would cost you almost same. If A in one bike would be costly and B less costly, it might be vice-versa for the other bike.
Yes I do agree maintaining Xtreme is easier, it is comfortable to ride too, but I personally would be bored after one year of usage. As we all have a tendency to go for more power. Then why not get the RTR180 with ABS. Yes I agree it might effect your budget, but it will give peace with the added safety and enough power for city rides and touring.
Mileage : Yes XTreme would give you marginal good mileage than RTR, and its a fact that mileage depends on how you ride and what condition is your bike. RTR would easily give you 42-44kmpl if ridden sanely.

I tried to answer all the points to help you out, its up to you which one would you go for. And yes, do have a test ride of both the bikes, that also would help you decide.

@OP, you decide what you want. If you want power, fun factor and a bit aggressive stance and don't mind the comfort much then Apache 180 ABS is the way to go. If you want decent power, reliable, refined and relaxed commuterish style and a good efficiency then Xtreme should be your pick.

Yes thanks. I have ridden both bikes. I used to think that I would like a Bike with more comfort but after riding the Apache I felt it suits me more. And why 180cc, 160cc should be enough for my city ride. And 11k just for ABS, I don't think I can afford.
My friends say in Bangalore traffic, 180cc bikes would give around 35 kmpl only but I want 45(+/-3) kmpl in my bike.

If it was R15 I would have thought about comfort, but RTR is not as much aggressive so no worries, anyways I have to travel only 1 hour a day. Weekend trips only God knows how many times I will go so comfort not an issue really. But mileage less than 40 is an issue with 180 , the same reason why I don't prefer FZ.
