  • Best buy in sub 1 lakh category!!

    Hello All,

I am new to xBhp. I have been a silent observer on xBhp for over an year. I joined my job 4 months back and plan on buying a bike for myself in a month's time. The following describe my requirements:

    1. The OTR should not be in excess of 1 lakh
    2. It should be an eye-ball grabber
    3. It should be a comfortable ride for a tall person; I am 6'1" and average built
    4. It should be preferably good to ride in mild traffic conditions on mostly in-city highways
    5. It should return a reasonable FE, not something really great but just reasonable, in range of 35-40
    5. Easily available and reasonably priced spares
    6. Low on maintenance
    7. I would prefer good handling over top speed

The options that I have considered in my price range are as below. Its quite exhaustive but as I possess limited knowledge, I would like you all to help me chose the machine best suited to my requirements:

    • [*=1]Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi
      [*=1]Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS
      [*=1]Bajaj Pulsar 220 F
      [*=1]Bajaj Avenger 220
      [*=1]HML CBZ Xtreme 150 - Double Disc
      [*=1]HML Karizma R
      [*=1]Honda CB Trigger CBS
      [*=1]TVS Apache RTR 160 - Double Disc
      [*=1]TVS Apache RTR 180 - ABS
      [*=1]Yamaha FZ-S FI V2.0
      [*=1]Yamaha Fazer
[*=1]Suzuki Gixxer - Not quite sure

Feel free to add more to the list if you find its in-line with the requirements.
Please help me choose one by validating your response against the requirements mentioned by me.

Your response will be much awaited!!
    Thanks in advance..

    Query Approved

From the list the 200NS would be your best bet. It meets criteria 1, 2 is subjective, 3, 4, 5, 5 again, 6, 7 more or less.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

My vote will go in this order :
            1. Karizma R - Tried and tested engine. Smooth engine, top build quality. Hero's network is unmatched in India.
            2. P200NS - Most powerful of the lot. Best value for money. Not sure about pillion comfort though.
            3. RTR 180(ABS) - Quick off the line. Only bike in sub 1 lac category to have ABS. Vibrations above 70kmph and a little rough engine.
            4. FZ V2.0 - Smoothest engine and best build quality of the lot. Least powered among all the bikes listed as well.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

              Go for 200ns.
Most powerful bike under 1 lakh.
Good for tall person like you .
Spare parts are easily available and are not costly.

                  For your height 200NS
Also its the best bike under 1 lac, good braking and pickup as well, better than all listed options.
RTR ABS can also be an option, but not suitable for your height.

I really thank you all for the quick responses. I see that most of you have vouched for NS. Even I took a test ride and found it really promising. Will it surely extend a FE of 35 atleast? Also, what are its exact pros over 220F except for a slightly higher bhp??

P200NS is surely capable of delivering 35 kmpl. The overall build quality and design is better than the P220. Also, a better city handler than P220.

Thanks. Also, can any of tell me how is the resale value of 200NS?

I am a little confused between the 220F and NS because:

                          1. I like the faring of 220F. But at the same time, I am aware of the vibrations it can cause.

                          2. Resale value of 220F is decent as per my friends experience. Dont have any idea about NS though.

Re: Best buy in sub 1 lakh category!!

resale value depends on how well the bike is maitained and the point when you sell the bike, when you go for a new bike, don't think about resale value.

ns is better 220, 220 engine tends to turn harsh when you ride roughly and after an hour hard riding, the brakes seems to fad away.

ns doesn't have the above said issue, in terms of mileage ns returns better mileage than 220. headlamps are a let down in ns. 220 has the best headlights.

Totally agree. Its not a major decidimg point for me either. I think now I am stuck between three: NS, 220F and FZ FI V2.0
