  • Which 150cc Bike under 90k?

    Hi All,

I am 25 years old and having been driving my Super Splendor since the last 7 years. After being extremely satisfied with my bike, I think its time to get a new one, preferably with a little more power. So I've decided to buy a 150cc bike.

    1. Budget : Approx 90k
    2. Age : 25
    3. Height : 5'4"
    4. Weight : 60 kg
    5. Intended usage : Mostly Office commute, Occasional weekend recreation riding and highway runs.
    6. Fuel Efficiency requirement : 45+ would be sufficient. (Of course the higher I can get the better).
    7. City & Highway percentage usage : 70-75% city usage, 30-25% highway.
    8. Monthly running : 600km approx.
    9. City / Town /Village of residence : Kolkata
    10. Brand / Bike type preference : Yamaha / Hero / Honda / Suzuki

Note : Since I'll be travelling with a female pillion, I'd prefer having a comfortable pillion seat.

Of all the research I've done, I am most inclined towards Yamaha FZ-S FI Version 2. It gives me a good balance of looks, power and fuel efficiency. However I am not very sure about the pillion comfort as it has split seats. I also like the Suzuki Gixxer.

Can anyone help me make the right choice ?

FZ V2.0 will cost you a little more than your budget (if you can extend by another 4-5k, you can get your hands on it). IMO, FZ v2.0 is definitely a looker (especially the Green colored one). Mileage wise, you be able to get 40 kmpl+ inside city ridden sanely ( not pushing her hard, changing gears at right point) and driven <75kmph, definitely you be able to extract even more. Pillion comfort is ok for shorter commute, not ideal for longer ones. As I have my friends complaining about the seat padding being a bit harder. But driving with a pillion for 25kms should not be a problem.

And for your physique, you shouldn't be having much trouble driving it,. You don't want to be driving Hero at this age except ZMA or ZMR, which will cost you more than your budget.

Honda, no issues with engine. But for your budget, Unicorn will be a good choice. But given the weight of the bike, its a bit tough to handle it like Hero Hunk.

Gixxer you can have a look at this thread:

Add 8k, get 200 ns And be worry free for next 3-5 years of upgrade.
        Otherwise get gixxer.

FZ V2.0 would be an ideal choice. For short rides, split seats won't be a problem. Refinement, finish and overall quality is unmatched.
Else, have a look at GS150/Gixxer. Both are similar type of bikes with good level of comfort.

                Thanks for all the suggestions.

I am not very keen for Pulsar as I have heard that engine is only good for the first 3-4 years, whereas I am looking for a bike that is low on maintenance and lasts long.

As far as FZS V2 and Gixxer is concerned, I like both of them. Can anyone tell me which has a more comfortable pillion seating ? Also, which has better fuel economy among the two ?

I presume Gixxer has an upper hand in the FE department. It should give you in City roads like 48-52 kmpl. Not sure on the pillion comfort...You can check the GIxxer ownership thread.

Fz v2.0, nothing shy of 42+ kmpl in city (info from my friend). Pillion seat is comfy for short rides in city. Highways, it takes it toll on your butt...needs xtra padding..

I don't know where from have you heard this, but this is just not true. Even better, the NS is nothing like the conventional pulsers!!

Looking for seating comfort, the Pulser stands last here! FZ 2 has better seats, both rider and pillion!

Fz v2 has FI system . ..so obviously it will be higher on mileage side compared to gixxer .

Ever thought about RTR160? Or the 180??

Its a steady heed which can take all the beating. Engine is rock solid..

The only downside is the vibrations. But you will get used to it in and with gloves on, the vibrations will be nil to your hands..

With RTR 180, you will not only get a good performer but also a reliable engine which one let you down.. instead of spending 90k on a 150cc bike. You can get a 180cc..

This would be my suggestion. Test Ride it and see how it suits you.. if you dont like the new models, the old models are still selling..

The beat of the bike is simply too good and addictive.. though i love smooth engines like Karizma..

Just like you mentioned, I did not consider RTR because of vibrations.

I am not a high speed rider, and will mostly ride at the speed of 50-70 kmph.
So, I am not in favour of getting anything above 150cc as I would not be needing that much power anyways. Rather I would prefer a smooth engine that gives a joyful riding experience.

Yes I know I need a 150cc.. That's what my post title says too.
The question was which 150cc ? FZ S V2 or Gixxer.
