  • Took U turn from buying KTM 200 duke: Booked RE 350 TB

    Hi xbians,

Since 6 months I was planing to buy a bike.I was heavily inclined towards duke 200.I was even applied for loan. But my company officials told to wait till April to get loan sanctioned.
In this week following factors made me to take U turn from my decision and go for Royal Enfield 350 TB.

1.First of all I am not buying bike...I am marrying it..I want to keep it with me till my death....Cruisers are the one which never get aged.

2.I want enjoy every ride and not street racer who races by keeping traffic behind....My every ride will be calm and cool.

3.Influenced by the thought, Boys ride toys ....Men ride royal Enfield.....

4.Expecting joyful future with my friends by going on tours in holidays.....

5.Lot of dukes around here ....pretty common ...and 2 year old dukes not looking as stylish as that parked inside showroom.....

Please suggest me with your valuable comments.......

Good for you. RE is a fabuluos machine, just that it requires devoted time and money in maintenance. More than most bikes!

2.I want enjoy every ride and not street racer who races by keeping traffic behind....My every ride will be calm and cool.

    That's good thinking!

3.Influenced by the thought, Boys ride toys ....Men ride royal Enfield.....

Sorry to break your bubble. But, this thought is utter garbage! One of the reasons, Bulletiers get a bad name! You need to change your thinking on this one.

4.Expecting joyful future with my friends by going on tours in holidays.....

Yup. The charm of any RE bike is that its maintenance is pretty much straight forward. Also, it doesn't have modern gadgetry, which may turn off some, they do help when broken down.

5.Lot of dukes around here ....pretty common ...and 2 year old dukes not looking as stylish as that parked inside showroom.....

Don't many people rides REs there? Well, regarding the style factor, its determined by the design at the factory. I guess you were talking about maintenance! Money doesn't buy brains to people you see. They buy expensive stuff and abuse them to the hilt.

As Divya Sharan said about breaking the bubble, REs had a cult status till recently. But now its going way low, just because of the over exaggerated "CULT FEELING" of the RE users. I left Facebook RE group just because of the same fact. I admit its an awesome bike. But the pathetic quality and maintenance costs have made potential buyers think thrice before getting one. I was once so inclined towards Classic, but now i have turned away to much refined bikes. Farewell to RE until they decides Indian Customers are second to none.

Anyway, hope you have a good time with your wifey (Read as RE)

No offense on your decision made, but how can you just change your decision which you had made for last 6 months and turn your back on it within a week. Initial thoughts about bikes dont come just like that. You need patience to think and decide. Because your first bike will always be your first love/wife (atleast to me ) . But anyways, a good decision though, Dont want to re-iterate things already spoken by others, keep it safe and maintainenance is the key for such legendary ones,

        Happy riding.

          1. Good if you're marrying it. Love for bikes is always at the core of every biker's heart.
By "Cruisers never get aged", do you mean they will never go out of style? Well, that's true.

But if you mean it will never get old and require maintenance, then I'm not that sure. They will age too.

          2. You can ride both the bikes, like this. Royal Enfield will have more torque, but you can also ride Duke at a reasonable speed without keeping traffic behind.
You can ride Duke at 35-40 kmph in its 6th gear.

          3. So, If I make a 15 year old ride a Royal Enfield, he will become a man?
Brother, don't fall for such rubbish that few guys say. You're not making friends thinking this way. Biking is way bigger than Royal Enfield.
True Biking is a spirit that thrives, without fanboyism towards a certain brand. Good if you love a bike, but avoid such generalisations.

          4. If you're a great person to be around, and if you treat all of them alike irrespective of them being on Cruiser, Commuter, Sbk, sportsbike, etc. then you'll anyways make good friends that will last a lifetime. I have made some too. And not all of them had Duke 390, or for that matter, even a 150cc.
You can tour on both bikes. Above 80 kmph, the Royal Enfield starts heavily vibrating. Duke 200 is undergeared by most modern bikes' standard. It means in city its fun to ride, but on highways, it may get a bit tiring. Riding position is slightly more comfortable on Royal Enfield, but this factor depends from person to person.

          5. Ok. So, you want to "marry" a bike, with the objective that others should see and admire her.

Anyways, I too have a 1.5 years old Duke 390, which I glance back after every ride.. Even 1.5 years after our "marriage". Others glances never mattered to me. It was and is my ride.

Of course, your Royal Enfield may invite more glances I agree.

Brother, once I was riding hard with a buddy who had a Classic 500. Its exhaust fell down. And it was so hot that we needed to get a car to take it back home.
RE's are still not reliable. If you're ok with repairing and maintaining it this way, then only take it.

Thanks for replying everyone......Please don't take my words harsh.....I never meant to hurt anyone....all I wanted convey is, Duke looks too young for my eyes...if I am a college student I would have definitely preferred Duke...
I have TD Duke, It is wonderful machine to own .It is well suited for city rides. But I am not live in city. All my ride consist my village and city which is only 1km width .

Most of my friends advised to buy re 350 standard just for it looks great for eyes of others....but according to me , If you feel good on your bike...you look good on your bike..I am expecting that feel..that comfort from TB 350.

              Typical scumbag Enfield owner mentality.

You're not even an enfield owner yet, and still giving these statements. Childish to the very core.

I used to ride C500 and now ride D390. And I know tons of 390 owners who are upgrades from Bullet. It is very rare that someone had a Duke but sold it for a Bullet - as a matter of fact I know no one.

Forgive me for sounding harsh but you seem to have built up a massive "bulleteer" "biker" image in your mind.

Happened with me - twice! And shearing of foundation bolt - again twice. Besides minor niggles like tool box lock falling out.

Well one thing is for sure, every biking brand fans always belittle the others! Enfielders say only men ride them, others say Enfield is good only for making a sound. Some say Jap bikes have no character, Italian bikes are not reliable, Indian bikes are not real bikes..... et all. Believe me I've heard enough of such stuff about every other brand. Infact recently I was just out on a small ride with my Continental GT and saw a group of bikers on Godhbunder road. I stopped and wanted to start a conversation, but they didn't even acknowledge me!!! Probably since they were mostly on modern bikes they didn't consider some bloke on a Enfield respect worthy!!! but then there were other biker group which was a mix of almost everything, were very welcoming and rode with them some distance!

Thankfully there are enough level headed people still biking around . And they know in reality all this doesn't count! even a 150cc bike is afterall a bike. So I'd suggest don't get into such thinking of what men or boys ride. What matters is if you're heart is on a bike then you must go with it. I know enfields may not have a great reputation, but then I've also seen age old ones neatly running still!! they require a bit more attention and time. So choose carefully. I knew this too & most of my friends didn't encourage in buying one, but I listened to my heart and went with it & was ready to accept whatever the consequences.
                  Ride your Heart out!!!

First of all. Every person is different. Everyone has different characters, emotions, ideologies and so on. Likewise every bike has its own charm. We choose what we like. Some other will dislike what we like. That's life.

I own a RE TB 250 2013. I love my bike. It's awesome. In my state Kerala everyone thinks high of RE and has great respect for it. The feeling is great. But that said I love every other bike from KTM, Harleys, Triumphs, MV Agusta, BMW, Hondas, Yamahas, Kawasakies and so on. It is my dream to own a superbike and hope I can in the future if God wills.

The term 'Bikes are for Boys and Bullets are for Men'. I completely disagree. Then what are other bike manufacturers for? We need to respect all. Once in India Bullets were the only bike, then others came with there lower cc models. But now the scenes changed. Superbikes are ruling our roads. The likes of Kawasaki, HD, Triumph. Then there are some who hates bullets and I dont know why? After all this site is for hardcore bikers who love there bikes to there core. So have respect for every bike manufacturers. None is bad.

It's not about how hard you get hit... It's about how hard you get hit and just keep moving forward.

Your story may not have such a happy beginning... But that doesn't make you who you are... It is the rest of your story... Who you chose to be.

Uffff......to many hard replies but none given enough reason to think back buying RE.
First of all its not my personal opinion.I never said I support that statement, but I said I got influenced by that statement especially the latter part. While searching online I found many blogs were many wrote why they newer buy RE,they are bulky craps, rust buckets...! But I never bothered because I know any bike it may be,If you love it ,it will last with you forever.

If some one says to me, I am a boy riding RE or I am riding a bulky toy,I never bother about it because I know what I am riding and of course my bike too knows who is riding it....
