I believe you have misunderstood cruising speed. Cruising speed is a speed you can do all day long. For example. R15 can cruise comfortably at 100-105kmph all day long without stressing the engine or the rider. Even if the TB500 can do 120kmph all day (largely debatable), I am pretty sure the vibrations will tire out the rider soon.
No, not misunderstood. Thing is maintaining a cruise speed of 120+ kmph all day long in India is practically impossible. As per my exp, the best average speed you can hold is on B'lore - Hyd NH7. B'lore - Mumbai you can't hold that speed continuously or in actual terms cruise at that speed all through. You can maintain such cruising speeds at particular sections like Tumkur-Chitradurga, Harihar-Bankapur, Dharwad-Belgaum-Nipani-Kolhapur but still not possible all the way through.

And yes, TB500 is capable of doing so but vibes will be too much.

Re: Buying my second bike, help me?

Just thought to share this experience of mine. Rode the RC390 for some 60-70 kms on highways. Reason why I'm writing it down is RC390 share the same engine and the same chassis as with D390, which is a contending bike for your second buy. Points noted:

      For RC390/D390:
      1. Awesome power. Even at 160 kmph the bike was pushing hard and the power at tap is really something to be glad about. The engine was feeling at ease even at 160+ kmph speeds.
      2. Topped 178 kmph, after which KTM has designed the ECU to cut the fuel supply, and the bike was very stable throughout.
      3. Awesome tires and brakes, very much confidence inspiring, was able to negotiate a mild-to-medium bend at 150+ kmph speeds and even after leaning, the bike was planted to the road, again very much confidence inspiring.
      4. Fantastic console and very much readable.

      For RC390 only:
      1. Awesome feedback from the front shocks, gives you confidence while going into corners.

      Against RC390/D390:
      1. Too much vibrations, maybe after an extensive ride experience with R15, I felt like I was riding a very much vibrating engine. KTM should work on this and reduce the vibration maybe by putting rubber engine mounts. After the highways, I rode my R15 and can find the difference. My R15 was like the completely vibration free bike when compared to the RC.
      2. Engine getting overheated too much, even after a ride on the highways, that too at around 4-5 am, which is the coldest time of any particular day. The engine is so heated that the fan is getting switched on and the fan sound can be heard even while I'm riding, overtaking the engine sound. It happened so, that while I was riding my R15 that day, my friend was riding his RC390, the bike I rode, and after riding on completely empty roads, with minimum possible clutch engagement, I can still hear the engine fan when the RC was within 15-20 ft of me. Phew !! Engine was so heated that you can feel the heat en the waves coming out of the fairing even after 20 mins of stopping the engine. KTM should work on the heat dissipation factor also, given the RC is liquid cooled.

      Against RC390 only:
      1. Windscreen is too small and to me it was like of minimum use.
      2. Under heavy front braking, light spread is decreasing considerably, which is a bit scary, and I think it's a design issue.
      3. Handle bars are too wide, and after the riding the R15, I felt it is not going to help that much in cornering.
      4. Seating posture is too committed, so much that I was feeling that my R15V2 provides a very comfortable posture when compared.

PS: Above all are my personal observations which maybe wrong for more experienced riders.

Maybe bump it up by 2-3K? My uncle had a 2013 P150 and sold it in 2015 for 50k and it had run not even 10k. That should give you an idea.

Among the choices you mentioned, the Conti and the TB are a little overpowered for your intended usage. Both of them are not suitable for Kolkata roads.
Why not the RS 200 abs? Has ample power and abs for safety. And as you already have a Pulsar, you will land in familiar territory.
Other options can be Tb 350 and CBR 250. The TB requires a little care and pampering but while on a long ride, the comfort is unmatched. Yes, vibes are there but nothing in this world is perfect. And RE does not have any alternatives in India. The CBR is a capable and proven tourer. And not that bad for city usage. Both of these bikes have sufficient torque and any mechanic worth his salt can repair them.
                      All the best! :-)

Hello, I have been a keen follower of some of the ownership threads for the past month. I stay in Delhi and my usage would be a to and fro 30km ride to office maybe twice a week max (office cab on other days ) and a lot of weekend driving. Also, i plan on taking long rides on highways once a month, once it cools down a bit here. Just to clarify that roads in delhi are pretty good.

I have this affinity towards faired bikes as well as cruisers, due to which I shortlisted the RS200 and RC200. (I have a thing for the thunderbird 350 as well, but reading all about the rusting issues and oil leaks and high maintenance have scared me). the dealers here wont give a test ride on the rs200. I have absolutely loved the RC200, ridden a friends bike a few times. however, long rides (300km a day) may be a problem (as ive read on posts everywhere). the RS however feels the most vfm, made for the typical indian and feels a balanced bike. If bajaj only made it a little more sharp in looks, nd not this bloated, i wud have probably bought it by now.

Any suggestions ? as per my riding requirements, which will be the better bike, (rc being 40k costlier). also, i am 5feet8, hit the gym regularly and consider myself fairly fit(in regards to back and wrist pains on RC)

The RS 200 is a VFM product. The product seems to be better than earlier pulsars.
The Duke/RC are good bikes but the pillion seat and engine heating can cause a lot of concerns later on.
Why don't you check out the Fazer V2.0? Though the power is on the lower side, the FI, looks and build quality makes up for that.

Not to mention, you save a hell lot of money on fazer. Pulsar AS 200 is another vfm buy.

thing is, ive ridden a pulsar 135 for the last 5 years...also a fair amount of riding on the previous gen fazer...i wanted to upgrade to a more powerful bike.
so wasnt considering the fazer v2.0...
