  • Which Scooter ?

    Hi Guys,

So, What Bike according to my requirements ?

I wil try to keep it short and simple. I need a scooter because I have to carry stuff all the time and carrying my bag and other things is the only reason I am going for a scooter. Else I would have bought a bike:

    1. Budget: 60K +- 10K at max
    2. Body: age 33, 5'6", thin and lean guy
    3. Intended usage: 100% pure office commuting.
    4. Fuel Efficiency requirement: the more the better
    5. City & Highway percentage usage: 90% city, 10% highway
    6. Approximate Daily running: 30-40km
    7. City: Hyderabad
    8. Preference: Nope. No concerns of brand/look/style/racing/touring/Racetrack-usage/ Weekend-recreation-riding
    9. Priorities: Comfort, after sales service, spare parts easily available & not too expensive.

        Re: Which Scooter ?

There are few Scooters available now as per your requirement. If you read couple of Ownership experience here, you will get some idea about all these scooters. Once you are able to shortlist couple of good ones as per your preference then go for a test drive and finalise which one you like.

For your easy reference, I am giving here few ownership threads of different Scooters:

Take a look and then go for the best..

(There are other brand scooter details also available here which you can get it if you search further)

@nairrk : I read all those reviews and lot others after some searching. The choice comes down to Maestro Edge vs Jupiter. I can't figure for what reason I prefer the one over the other. There are too much reviews/experiences on Jupiter and very less on Mastro Edge. Whose after sales service is better, Hero or TVS ? I am checking out TVS Indubala Motors in Habsiguda, Hyderabad.

            Re: Which Scooter ?

Everyone will have different of opinion in selection of a Scooter.

I have good relation with TVS dealer as I already purchased two vehicles (TV Jive and TVS Wego) from them and they were always very nice and reasonable in service related matters.

I too have shortlisted Jupiter when I wanted a new scooter after reading so many reviews etc (as you said) and it was really a tough decision to select a scooter between Jupiter and Duet or Maestro Edge. Besides performance I always give some preference in terms of advanced features.

So, I did a comparison of features in Jupiter and Edge and finally settled with Edge (extra features on Edge - Side stand on warning, External fuel filling with flap cover, immobilizer, Integrated Breaking, Digi-analog Console, Ignition switch control for opening Seat cover as well as Fuel filling flap cover. Also, Boot lamp & USB port comes with VX variant whereas in Jupiter these two are optional and one has to get it as an extra accessory?)

TVS Jupiter and TVS Wego are great choices and they are better than Honda Activa in places like Seating Comfort and various other features.

As Nairrk mentioned, Edge is going to be a good deal with some interesting features.
I think all Hero Scooters get 50,000KMs/5 years of warranty, which is also an added advantage on your engine.

Yes, they are warranted for a period of 5 years or 50,000 kms whichever is earlier, from the date of purchase.

However the hitch is that '' It is mandatory to avail all free and paid services from the Hero Motocorp's authorized workshop only,
as per the recommended schedule, to be eligible for warranty benefits..

So that means even paid services are to be carried out with them only..!!

The hero service is actually very good. Way better than any local mechanics and their work is trust worthy. Whatever they do they will guarantee which we won't get in local mechanics.

If hero service center is far away from your home, that is the only disadvantage.

Add Yamaha Alpha to your shortlist and take a test ride, It is a good contender.
For funky looks, check out the new Ray z.

A quick question: How much difficult it is to carry your stuff on bike ?

I don't have ownership experience of any 2-wheeler (except cycle of course ).

If it is just a back pack then it is quite easy and a bike will be far more predictable in handling than a scooter.

In that case, what do you suggest as per my requirement in OP ?

Since you have no concerns on brand/look/style/racing/touring/Racetrack-usage/ Weekend-recreation-riding, any 125CC bike would fit into your budget.
Go for Honda Shine, which is the most selling 125cc bike. It has got a smooth & reliable engine. Can give you a trouble-free ride.
