Test ride should be good-laughing in a good sense

And then i got the most amazing answer from him.

"Arey! Kuch nai! Wo sirf NS ka engine bada kiya aur usme laga diya hai. Uparse fairing lagaya dusra aur usko VS400 naam de diya."

Next thing i said by looking at my friends was.
"Dude, get up. This is enough for today. We're leaving from here right now."
I was hoping to get some inner information from him as he was a dealer and then he said this!
I was like, Its common sense dude! How can someone turn a 200cc engine into a 373cc engine! Even if it was possible, Why would they do that!
How can you even not think for a moment before showing your intelligence in front of everyone. xD

      It Happens Only In India.
I heard the same thing from an automobile engineer when the Duke 390 was gonna launch. He told me the Duke 390 had the same engine as the Duke 200. They just increased the bore, made it 373 cc, iirc. He advised me not to sell my CBR for it, something I was prepared to do if the initial feedback from first lost customers were positive.

Why they do that? To save costs. It's costs a hell lot of r&d cash to make a new engine, is what I've heard. That's why KTM can give a 390 for just ~2.3L.

The dealer wasn't trying to bluff.

Ever since Bajaj said that they're going to launch the VS400, even one other thing was declared that its engine will be derived from the duke 390s.
So talking like, "200 ka engine leke bada kiya" isn't really what i was expecting from a dealer.
Taking a 200cc engine and then increasing it will be costlier than taking the 390s and just powering it down.

from what i understood, ur a beginner, so can u tell me why this preference for >= 250 cc bikes?
i have a 300 cc bike, and i have been riding for the last 8 yrs, and still do not have an issue with power.
secondly, ABS is something that u should buy, if at all the option is available for u on the bike, for 2 reasons...
          1. ur a beginner, and ur not used to braking under stress.
          2. as many guys pointed out earlier, panic braking can screw with the capabilities of the best of riders, no matter how good they are, it can and DOES save a person from having an accident.

under normal conditions, there is NO DIFFERENCE between an ABS and a non-ABS equipped bike in terms of braking time/distance.
the ABS comes into play ONLY when the system detects a wheel lock.

about the bike ur considering, yes, i am personnally against bajaj, but will say only one thing, wait for some reviews to emerge before putting up your hard earned money into an investment u will be tied to for atleast 3-4 yrs. its not about risk, its about patience...

          all the best...

Beginner on my own bike? YES.
But i am riding bikes for the past 5-6 years for now.
This is how the order went.
            Splendor-Unicorn-Pulsar 180-Pulsar 220- RE Classic 350/500 Standard (Current on a daily basis).
So actually my family is against two wheelers and it's been 5 years that I'm trying to convince them for a bike.
            At last they are.
And that's why I'm so concerned so much about my bike.
Dad ain't helping me for one single penny.
            I'm 21, working and studying.
So if anything goes wrong with the bike, dad won't leave one single time to show me that he was right.
So i need a bike that i can trust on.
            And another reason for >=250cc.
I'll be going out out Mumbai for every Thursday and the trip will be for like 250kms.
I want a bike that can crusie all day on good speed.
            I hope that's enough explanation. :P

your reasoning for a 250 cc bike is again, not logical, the distance has nothing to do with the power output of the bike, but, if it is what your heart wants, then go for it.

if ur going to spend every penny u have on a bigger bike, wont it be very expensive to maintain? the cost of ownership isnt just cost of the bike itself.

i am nobody to pass judgements, but in my opinion, u need to think this decision through. and i dont mean wrt which bike to go ahead with.

regarding "a bike u can trust", one thing is for sure, the bajaj vs400 is not trustworthy at all, simply because it is not in the market yet, for the trust to build.
reliability being your main concern, go for tried and tested options rather than taking a risk. your risk profile just doesnt allow you to take any.

Trust Bajaj ? Me personally,I wouldn't.There aren't made of very good quality parts and its upto how the owner decides to maintain the bikes,I've seen pristine quality First Gen Pulsars still running whereas in the same Time,I've seen year old 220F and AS200 with fairing rattling, parts rusting and Oil leak on head.In Chennai,I see tons of Pulsars leaking oil and Blown Heads, misfiring.Comparatively bad Dukes too. This is because Bajaj makes KTM Bikes. The Kratos 400 is confirmed to borrow the Engine from KTM Duke 390 and RC 390,The 375cc Engine,Known to have troubles like Overheating.etc.I also expect Fairing Rattles to come as an additional feature with the Kratos [emoji23]

I prefer TVS over Bajaj.I would say,Do keep an eye out for the TVS-BMW G310R

                I would say,Go for the Honda 250R ABS.Reasons would be that it's a proven bike.Well refined.Awesome power and gearbox.Got dual channel ABS
                Pretty fantastic bike

And if you feel guilty when you see a Kratos after you buy the CBR,Just think like this 'I'm on a Honda. They're on a Bajaj' I guess that will be enough to differentiate [emoji23]

You're forgetting whom you're replying to.
We've a bunch of internet journalists who have ZERO road experience and have loads of time online trying to defame a product. Dukes are as niggle free as they can be since late 2014. But they won't care. Pulsar 220 is as smooth as it can be since 2012. But who cares?

It's a known fact that if you want a niggle free product, you must wait for a year. But then we have the mighty TVS baba and his recommendations!

CBR 250R is a really great bike. It's a bit old but is tried, tested and proven to be a solid built bike.Extremely refined.ABS is Dual Channel, works like charm
Whereas Kratos,Brand new Bike,MIGHT have some issues.Granted its way more powerful than the CBR,But me personally,I would go with CBR and stay on the safe side.

                            And yeah that too - 'I'm on a Honda,They're on a Bajaj,There is a pretty big difference'
I also bet ya that most (not all) people with the Kratos will be the stupid youngsters with no riding gears.Whereas the CBR guys,Are more matured

If you want to wait for the Kratos,Also keep an eye out on the BMW G310R.

                            That would be like - 'I'm on a TVS-BMW/Honda,They're on a Bajaj,"Nuff said'

Can you tell me which time capsule you have that you can judge a bike prior to its launch. May be you went to the future and saw it yourself. Please guide us with your esteemed knowledge on this thing

Never knew that bajaj comes with the policy of selling bikes to ONLY youngsters, any idea if TVS/Honda/Yamaha have such schemes or not? Oh, sorry just noticed, CBR is sold after checking maturity level. Must say the companies are very good if they are using this marketing strategy.

So when i started thinking about CBR i was very skeptical that what my reaction would be when i see a Kratos on the road and I'm on a bike came 5 years ago.
But after all the things i mentioned above and finally reading what @TVSian said, I was like YES!
I'll be on a Honda, and they'll be on a Bajaj. xD
Yes and I wonder how you'd feel when the same Bajaj would outpace your Honda in city as well on the highway despite costing the same and having better lights, tires, instrumentation (all fancy blingy stuff)! XD XD XD

                                *No, I don't ride a Bajaj.*

So, should I close the thread now that you got the much needed motivation to go for the bike of your choice?
