If you are considering the ZMR, also do consider the AS200.

They simply will fail your bike unless you know exactly what is wrong with your bike and are on their backs to get your job done. You could always do the servicing yourself, but that's a long term commitment you'll be making.

I could give you countless stories on how the ASC - in fact, multiple ASCs - failed me and my bike over and over again till I sold off the bike unable to give it the attention it deserved from me. PM me if you'd like to discuss it.

madhav766 sorry about your experience. But see Service experience vary from dealer to dealer might be even city to city also.I won't add that criteria, which would add more confusion. HyperRetard - I am neither considering ZMR, nor the AS200 available, buddy

Full moon, one bit of advice is - you really cannot say what happens in an overtaking scenario, which is why you must buy the most powerful bike you can afford. The CBR has better brakes, better agility and better acceleration than any Bullet out there.
Just yesterday an auto braked hard to get a fare, just as I was going to overtake him. I was just able to stop in time.

Picture a state transport corporation bus coming right at you, with no space left in your lane, except 2 feet. Which bike would you want to ride then, a feel good sound good bike which takes up 2.5 feet, or a lithe, fast mover?

Point is, a sports bike can cruise, but a cruiser cannot play sporty when the going gets tough.

Hi Fullmoon saw your post in 200rtr. I own one it is a very good vfm product for its price bracket. The rpm range for the bike is @6500rpm 80,@~7500rpm 90 and~8500 100 ands tops @9.5k close to 120 , i personally have not tried above that but on a open stretch and open area the wind blast is quite strong anything above 100 kph but not that strong to push you off. Another word of caution the ASS is hit or a miss.At this price the gixxer sf and apache rtr are the best in contention if your not considering the AS200 ( i heard they are brought back to show rooms now )

leech, Point taken,.I do like cbr 250 r, But i would like to have a feedback from you. Are you servicing the Honda CBR 250 R through other mechanics or through Honda Service? What is your Service Experience? What about spares availability & pricing?
AbiRam..Thanks man, I posted similar rpm related questions in Yamaha R15S ownership thread & Suzuki Gixxer SF ownership thread. rtr 200 torque & power both peaks at 8500 rpm. 75% of that rpm would be 6375 rpm.Just a crude idea - one can ride an engine at 75% of its peak power rpm, it can ride at speeds at that rpm for hours without stressing the engine much. From your info, approx.6375 to 6500 rpm, RTR 200 can cruise at 80 km/hour for hours without any undue stress to engine.seems to be good. What would be a full tank mileage/ fuel efficiency of RTR 200 on long rides at speeds of 80 -90 km/hr?. Gixxer sf also would be a contender, waiting for test ride and other details from users.

Re: A Bike for only Touring under a budget of 1 lakh to 1.7 lakh Rupees

Full moon, when I was in Chennai, I got it serviced by Didar Honda Egmore. Good service, but, as always, the mechs are human, and humans make mistakes. Just make sure they do the work they are supposed to. They had stocks of CBR parts readily available.

In towns or villages, you will have a problem with any premium bike for service, be it RE or Bennelli. I travel 50 kms and spend half a day at the svc to get my bike up to spec. Changing oil filter and air filter can be done your self, only the fuel filter needs the tank to be opened up.

About prices, check the CBR 250 thread. I post prices when I change the parts. The first service will cost 1.2-1.5k.

CBR 250 comes with a 6000 kms service interval. Ask for the 5 year extended warranty option. It will cover the electricals, and come in handy.

Even unicorn has 6k or 6 months service interval, similar to CBR. Saw that in SVC board they have for specifying service intervals for various Honda bikes.

You need 1.4l oil without filter change and with oil filter change that would be ~1.6. Most if not all have switched to shell advance ultra FS (10W40) after sometime. But when you go for service they use Honda FS (10W30).

I also saw your post in Gixxer SF thread asking for some details. I used to have SF before I got CBR250(used).
Gixxer SF is better at 80-90 speeds above and upto 100 it's ok but beyond that is just stressing the engine. I had it for less than a year and have 12k km on odo when I sold it. I think it reaches 90 @6.5k RPM, though I don't remember exactly. The main reason for me to switch was better cruising speed, I could do 120+ all day, I do feel like Gixxer is a little smoother but that's a new bike compared to the 5.6 years old CBR that I have.

The recent long trip I had was to isg2g(ooty) from Chennai, return leg I was cruising at 110-120 all the way (around 600km) and had no problems whatsoever.
Mind you, if you go for Gixxer you will pretty soon look for more power, that's exactly what happened to me. But rest aside Gixxer is really a good bike if you have budget constraints.

On engine oil-

Honda wants you to use their 10w30 synthetic on CBR. Certain CBR owners reported the svc filled in 10w30 mineral when they didn't have stock of synthetic. Honda Synthetic is around ₹550/ litre. Mineral is ₹300.

A couple of guys use Shell Rimula HDEO, which is a mineral diesel oil. ₹300 / liter.

Most CBR owners use Shell Advance Ultra 10w40 Synthetic. Cost ₹700-800.

If you want warranty, stick to what Honda San says. Nobody I know of has ever come into the svc and claimed their engine got screwed because they used Honda oil for the full 6000 kms. But, people, being people, can't let things be. They want to fiddle around, experiment, and want the best for their vehicle. That is the reason why most people swear by Shell Advance Ultra 10w40, for Splendor, Activa, CBR 250, Hornet 160 and God knows what else.

I personally use Honda 10w30 mineral because it meets the requirements of CBR 250 as mentioned in the manual. A heavier oil will reduce mileage and pick up slightly.

Last night I got 393 kms out of 9.68L of Reliance normal petrol, on winding roads and speeds not exceeding 100kmph and rpm not exceeding 7000.

So my oil change costs ₹450 for oil, which I will change at 4000 kms.

got the bike just shy of 5 years (4.10 months) for 1.10l. It was bone stock, still running on stock sprockets/chain and tyres....so those are the first things to go. Just recently changed the brake pads front and back.
I get around 34~35 under normal riding, but varies between 30(stop go traffic).
Not worried about the service since the SVC mech only got me this bike. Only for changing parts I went there, otherwise I change oil myself. Nothing else is required.

I am looking for bike which would be only for touring purpose. I do have an alternate bike (2012 model CB Unicorn 150) for my 40 km daily commute.
I do like to give some extra boring details which might be useful. My height is 170 cm (less than 5.7), weight is 63 kg and i live in chennai. A healthy male without any back(spine) problems. I won't have pillion in my rides, because my wife would like to tour with kids & me on my one year old compact sedan. So would ride alone and wouldn't give a damn about pillion comfort.

Note : I have a 1987 model Royal Enfield STD 350 with me. I intend to sell this for various reasons like not suitable for high speeds, Different side gear & brake arrangement etc.. But I do like my bullet, need to sell her with a heavy heart.I already had used a pulsar 220 for 2 years & sold it. It's a good bike, but i don't want to buy the same again, need a change...

I am open to all options starting from sports bikes to cruisers, everything. But i do have some priorities. That's where i need your suggestions to get a bike to suit most of my requirements. My requirements are

1) Reliable engine - I do understand punctures, electrical / cable(accelerator ,brake, clutch) related issues can happen to any bike. But I need a reliable engine and don't want to get stranded in a highway or in middle of nowhere because of engine issues.

2) Power/Torque - suitable to ride at 80 to 100 km/hour for two to three hours continuously and to overtake vehicles at 110 km/hr. More power = more happy. I am not a person who redlines engine rpm.Maximum speed i rode on my Pulsar 220 is 120 km/hr, that too for a short distance of 15 km in chennai-bangalore highway.

3) Mileage - I do mean full tank mileage - the distance i can cover in a full tank , useful while going to unplanned/unexplored destinations. Min 300 Km is required.in worst case scenario atleast 250 km required.

4) Suitable to mount luggage - Ability to carry a tank bag (25 litre) or a backpack (35 litre) at pillion seat is sufficient.

5) Less Vibrations at cruising speed - at 80 to 100 km/ hour it should have tolerable vibrations, If less vibes or even vibe free, I would be happy.

I ride with all expectations of people/herds crossing in highway & ride at sane speeds according to tarmac & traffic. So handling or braking won't be a issue.

Most of my touring (say 95%) would be in daylight and would stop before 6.30 or 7 pm to call it a day. So projector lamps or high wattage lamps are not an requirement.

Purchase time: - not in a hurry. would buy within 3 months. But don't suggest me to wait for new bikes like kratos or etc..

Bikes in mind (not in the order of choice): Royal Enfield Bullet 500, Continental GT, Yamaha R15 S, Honda CBR 250R, Pulsar RS 200,Bajaj Avenger cruise 220, Bullet Std 350 UCE.
Have a look at the Yamaha R3. Potent tourer with all the creature comforts, but no ABS.
