So between FZ-16 & P-180 UG4 .. which one would serve the purpose..??

How is the gearbox & Chain of the new P180 ??.. coz i hav heard that they start making gringing noises nd the gears get jammed up sometimes while shifting.. how true is that..

i dont have much knowledge bout bikes...so all that i say/ask is whatever my friends tell/suggest me

I am here just because i want to get opinions fron the specialists... []..

      Thanx..
If your choice is between the FZ and P180 UGIV, then I would put it this way..

Size & Weight: The FZ looks bulky and heavy but weighs around 131 kgs, the P180 UGIV looks and is heavier at 147 kgs

Turning Radius: The P180 UGIV definitely has a larger turning radius than the FZ16. The FZ16 will be more at ease in the city than the P180 UGIV

Fuel Efficiency: From the ownership threads, the FZ seems to deliver between 35-40 kmpl, I expect the P180 UGIV to deliver between 40-45 kmpl (but definitely not less than 35 kmpl)

Power & Performance: Performance of the FZ16 is more than enough for city conditions, on the other hand the P180 UGIV will also have some reserve power for highway rides as well. Top speed on the P180 UGIV will be a tag higher as well.

Gearbox: The FZ16 has a sweet shifting gearbox, the P180 UGIV is much more slicker now compared to the older P180 versions. Also the engine of the P180 UGIV has now become smoother too.

Equipment levels: Both the FZ16 and the P180 UGIV have tubeless tyres. The rear one on the FZ16 is radial as well.
Both the FZ16 and P180 UGIV have DC lighting, but the P180 UGIV has an "Auto-Cut Off" feature which protects the battery from drain.

Price: The FZ16 is costlier than the P180 UGIV by about Rs. 4,000

Take test ride and then decide for yourself.

Damn. That's extremely close to ZMA territory. How much is FZ-S then? 80K OTR?

@indraneil: FZ-16 is a great bike as well as the ZMA and the P180. The freshest looker is the FZ-16 no doubt, in my opinion. Your height and weight are of an average build and there should be no problems fitting in all the bikes. I haven't heard of any complaints so far for new P180UG4 owners, they just started rolling out. As Nio said, O-Ring chains require more maintenance.

        Among the three.
Best in terms of performance with 35-40 kmpl mileage: ZMA
Good performance with 40+ kmpl mileage: P180UG4
Last in terms of performance with 40 kmpl mileage: FZ-16

First thing why r u so confuse in FZ 16 and P180 both the bike r the best in there class.

My personal choice, go for FZ16 its best bike i have ever owned, awesome look and performance than P180, Gr8 handling in city and on highways. Both the tubeless Tyres r gr8 man.

Yes Pulsar have gear-box problem from its 1st launch, My first bike was the P150 classic is has the same problem from day 1, till now. I'm not against Pulsar, but sharing my experience.

For the maintained part: If your r not taking a (not good) the best care of your Bike so why? r u buying a bike for?? go for touring in your car.
I take the best and the better care of my bike. If you maintain better definitely it will performed at its best. Car maintenance is much higher then the bikes. All though the FZ is fitted with plastic body (not good) can easily change into new colour (that good) I have 2 colour panels the original in red colour and i have purchase black one. I change then for every-ofen for a new colour.

For the mileage part: FZ-16 gives 34kmpl and P180 is 40+

          Chill man

            OTR Pune!

As somebody already said, this is out of sheer desperation and blind-faith...
I owned an Eterno which did not even complete 2 years and 8k on the odo, under the mildest riding of my dad had some ENGINE RELATED ISSUES....

I currently own a honda dio which is barely 1 year old and there is nothing extraordinary I felt with that scoot. Its a very plain, simple, underpowered scoot with a dismal mileage of 30kmpl......!

So please shed off this blindfaith and blasphemy for or against a particular brand......
            obviously, if you can....

I just mentioned above instances, just to cite an example which might open up eyes for some people who feel Hondas are "blaa blaa blaaa...."

            +1.......

Bro, apaches would be one of the best handlers in India...with some razor sharp cornering. The bike which u would have ridden, might have some problems....

Talking about the few negatives you talked about FZ...
Every bike is THE BEST in the market.......
cons and pros are made by the peoples priorities who contemplate buying them.

If your heart says FZ....go for it....And YAMAHA never let its owners down
Higher cost, lesser milege are all overshadowed with the way it drives...
Its road presence, awesome handling, lovely engine feel and the YAMAHA engine.....!

But if you are still confused, take a ride once again....take a nice sneering look at the bike ....beleve me your heart would say .....I wana ride a YAMAHA......
+1 excellent post @devil... i think reading this post will at least solve a lil bit of confusion of the thread starter...

@Pranay: The FZ-S costs around 76,500 as its supposed to be 1.5K dearer than the 'default' FZ.

But yeah, the FZ's pricing brings it pretty close to Zma territory. Hence, my smug smile when i see a guy on an FZ-S whilst pottering around town

But in Tamil Nad, the price difference b/w Zma and FZ 16 is close to 10k.

^^Im guessing a price difference of 8k IS close to 10k
And that very 8k, buys one the following advantage bonuses over a FZ:

                  1). 70cc of displacement
                  2). 4.35NM of torque
                  3). 3PS of Power

And the fuel efficiency of the FZ too apparently falls into the Zma bracket. This was my reasoning when I plonked for the Zma.
The bike being in my dad's name allowed us to opt for the annual road tax payment scheme (115/- p.a) and hence the OTR in my case ended up being 75,000/- flat

If someone considers this to be a flame/brand-war/attempt at flaming, please do not feel free to start a conversation concerning the same

I still maintain vehemently that the FZ-16 is an awesome but nevertheless overpriced product. Strictly my reasoning and hence wouldn't be justifying it in any way whatsoever.

                  Cheers !

hi...one query i wanted to ask... a friend of mine suggested to do a wax coating on the body so as to avoid scratches on the bike..

has anyone heard of it or done it in their bikes ??... how effective is it ??... nd will it change the look(read colour/texture) of the bodypaint ??..

He must have been referring to teflon coating. It does not alter the texture of painted surfaces, but makes them smoother&shine-you can say it is a polish, but a long lasting one. It creates a small film type of coating on your bike which is not visible to the naked eye, thereby protecting its shine&making it less vulnerable to surface scratches. Going in for it is a good idea. They say it lasts for 6 months&usually people go back for a 2nd treatment in about 4-5 months. Shouldn't cost you more than Rs.300 anywhere.
