  • ZMA Vs Apache RTR180

I am getting a ZMA and RTR180 onspot delivery. Now please help me choose between the two.I am not interested in other bikes.I am 82kg 5foot 7 inches.
    1)I dont drive beyond 80 kms/hr.
2)Bike will be used to go to Leh and then afterwards to drive within and around Pune(Total 600 kms return journey)
3)I am only worried about the Seating position of Apache and pillion comfort for long drives. If the difference in pillion and driver comfort is not much between Apache and Zma then I can go for Apache with some compromise.
4)What about parts availability of Apache and ZMA.
5)Has the cost of ZMA parts come down or its still rocket high?
6)Which has more adrenaline rush upto 80 kms/hr?Apache RTR180 or ZMA?
7)I am tempted for Apache due to Rear Disc and tubeless tyres. Also the spare parts are less expensive.Better fuel efficiency. It has no fairing which is good for me.The only thing which I dont like is the seating position and space for pillion. If these are serious factors then I would go for ZMA otherwise ZMA.
I have seen many people tour on Apache 180 also so confused.I would keep this vehicle for long term at least coming 7 years (if it lasts)

Please suggest fast.I would be booking the bike in next one or two days.
    Thanks for all your inputs.
    regards,
    Amit

            Karizma-R

3)I am only worried about the Seating position of Apache and pillion comfort for long drives. If the difference in pillion and driver comfort is not much between Apache and Zma then I can go for Apache with some compromise.
Karizma-R has a commuter seating posture whereas Apache has a sporty seating posture (relatively). Decide on which one you prefer but Apache is definitely bad for pillion comfort

4)What about parts availability of Apache and ZMA.
As far as my experience goes, Apaches are relatively easier to get

5)Has the cost of ZMA parts come down or its still rocket high?
Yes, they have reduced the front disc pads cost to 2300 from 1650 a few months back....
Majority of other parts are also similarly priced....
Some accept it as 'quality' some call them 'costly'

6)Which has more adrenaline rush upto 80 kms/hr?Apache RTR180 or ZMA?
            Definitely Apache!!!
A short stroke engine will always be more fun to ride and a better screamer apart from the fact that it loves to be revved. On the other hand Karizma is a long stroke relaxed engine which would take you to places with utmost ease

Apache has the best braking among any bikes made in India.....marred by pathetic Srichakra tyres....
Rest whatever you said is true.. and you have to take a call on that depending upon your priorities and comfort levels..!
Also consider the initial cost of buying which would be at least 8-9k cheaper if Apache is preferred

I have seen many people tour on Apache 180 also so confused.I would keep this vehicle for long term at least coming 7 years (if it lasts)
            Let Apachians comment on this...

You seriously need to ride one

About touring on RTR : I guess I can comment on this as I have been doing it since 2.5 years now. Didn't do something as big as Leh but have done 1000+ kms bursts quite a few times and on all kinds of terrain. Its all about getting accustomed to the sitting position. Moreover it has clip-ons which are ADJUSTABLE(A fact lot of people miss out on). You can adjust it to your need. But if you plan to carry a pillion FORGET APACHE...

@Threadt Starter: I would suggest a ZMA-R considering your touring requirements. Just make sure you dont drop it too often

Wow was this so debatable comparison.I thought I was the only one who got stuck making a choice between the two. My heart beats for the apache's performance its strong forte. Also the superior braking and cornering abilities. But then the use for Leh and about pillion makes me think otherwise.Still confused....

if you want refined, stress free, vibration less bike pick a ZMA else you can happily go with other bike.

Though I am not a avid supporter of Hero honda... I would still recommend Karizma. Apache is indeed cramped. And you will feel that over the period of time. No doubt Apache will be fun to ride.. But remember most of the times you will not be riding for fun. But mere commuting from one point to other.

And if want.. you can also consider - Pulsar 220 streetfighter. No fairing.. plus fantastic disc breaks.. sporty and comfortable seating.. good for long rides.. low cost spares.. and easily available. And very ridable on any terrain (read.. no hassels of fairing vibrations after small off roading). Consider this option seriously. Test ride and then decide.n I am sure you wont be disappointed.

Dude if you really can feel your heart beating every time you see RTR180 or think about it then just go for it. It will give you heart-throbbing thrill when you'll ride it or scrap your knees on the corners. But if you think that most of the time you will be on tour with a pillion then make your mind for ZMA(bullet-proof reliability) or the P220-F(stock projector lamp and that enormous torque which will pull you like hell/heaven). Test Ride each of the bikes and feel the differences.

As u are planning to go leh Zma is more preferable,if u want a light zippy bike go for rtr, remember its 0-100 timings are better than zma..
As a tourer any day zma and as a racer rtr 180
