Let me share my experiense when I srarted riding in 1966. My Bike was Royal Enfield Bullet bought new for a princely sum of Rs.5500. The fuel cost at that time was 70 paisa per litre and a tank full cost me around Rs 10.
I was doing my House Surgeonsy at Stanley Medicals at Madras as it was known than. From that time onwards I have always traveled to my native place krishnagiri a distance of 250 kms only on my bike.
The roads were usually single lane but the traffic was very sparse and I could travel at 90 to 100 kms per hour . Petrol bunks were very few and you had to sure you had enough fuel to get you to your destination or else you had wait some kind hearted person to give you a lift as ther were few buses.
You did not have Dhabas where you can take a break. There were trees on both sides off the highway and sceenery was good . You rarely met fellow bikers on the road because as I said earlier buying a bike was only for the afluent. I used to cover the distance of 250 kms in about 4 hrs without any stop. Given the choise to choose riding in the 60's and present I will still prefer the good old days.
Thanks for sharing your past experience Dr Sir. I am drooling when I read the line '70 paisa per litre'
Now it is 70 rs(atleast in TN) per litre. just a slight change!

sir, you are a true inspiration to the young bikers here.. Between Rs.5500/- will be like a 5 lakhs now , right sir. Thats way too expensive for a bullet. I guess Bullets would have been imported then.. Correct me if i am wrong

I enjoy reading and just think how great it would have been if we lived back in the day, full on bikers and enjoying in less.. But then we would be earning less too.. Welcome and Enjoy
