    • Victim of TVS tyre technology

I became yet another victim of TVS tyre, when I had a high speed (around 80kmph I think) get-off on the way back from office. it had just drizzled for a few seconds, and I did the foolishness of ignoring it. There is a long right hander curve after Sreekaryam on the way to Ulloor. I started to lean into it, and before I could stop, the bike slipped away under me. Bike went some 5-6ms and me atleast half. Sadly, I had chosen not to wear the jacket due to the heat at noon and my shirt took the beating - torn at multiple places, but my upper body do not even have a scratch. My mobile, which was in my shirt pocket dismantled itself to the back cover, front body and battery. But everything intact. I picked them up and put it back. Switched it on, and its all fine. The gloves helped me retain my palms intact. It was the right hip that hit and slid a few before I tumbled over. My Ipod shuffle, which I had put on the right pocket made direct contact with the tarmac, and has a new design now.... its not broken and was still streaming music when I picked myself up. All hail Apple! The one weak ares I had identified as vulnerable during a fall manifested itself correctly. the hip. I have a patch some 2 sq.inch, missing skin on the right hip. Its stinging like hell, now a good 1 hr after the incident.

The bike has took some damage too... but far less than what I thot when i was sliding behind it in a shower of sparks!!! The front right indicator is broken, yet another scratch on the front dome, front brake level bend and the end of it smoothed out, scratches on the handle-bar weight, footpeg slightly broken, silencer - well, its still there... it did a 180 deg turn while skidding away infront of me. After I had come to a complete stop, I jumped up, ran to the bike. it was lying as though it had fallen in the reverse direction. I took it up, rolled to the side of the road. For few seconds continued to listen to the song the ipod was playing. Then looked all over myself, removed the helmet, inspected it. Head had not touched the ground, but still. Looked at the crash mark - some 3-4 white lines on the black tarmac, in the long arc.... looked at the bike, checked if anything broken that will prevent me from riding home - nothing - so donned the helmet, shifted to neutral - had a tough time doing it as my legs were trembling (fear, relief - I dont know!) - started the bike, everything ok - rode back home.

So guys, take my advice---- ride slow in the rain. and ALWAYS wear all your riding gear! God has been very very merciful to me this time. I shiver to wonder what could have happened if not!

      • Ride safe.. Speed thrills but kills

lijo its so unfortunate that it happened to you. the types tht we use are slick tyres. expecially the zapper ones. When it get rains it becames mre softer and when braked.. it intent to go sideways resulting in sliding. Always try 2 ride in rain at around 40 60.. & tht too its a dangerours speed depending on our road conditions also.

Speed dosent make any sence.. once smethg happens thne we need to regret abt that the whole life. So always be in a controlled state.

I hope to get well soon with the same spirit..!!!

OMG...now that is soo unfortunate to have happened to you bro...that too when you didn't have your jacket on...cause whenever i see you around in the city...you'll be in your full riding gear...like you said....God really has been really merciful to you this time...and we are all glad you've survived through this fall without any other major consequences!! take care lijo chetta...and get well soon...
P.S: the TVS tyres has always been a shortcoming of the rtrs...you've been planning to change it right?? i'm pretty sure the mrf zappers, though not a complete solution for our kinda roads, is better than the TVS tyres for incidents like these...

                    • @ lijo chetta... sad to hear about the incident..and thank got nothing serious happened..me being a fellow apachian hav experienced the notoriousity of the tvs tyres many a times in the 3k odd kms and i think we even discussed it on our recent varkala trip...lost all my confidence in the tyres...no leaning into curves now...i am seriously thinking of changing the tyres as soon as i begin getting my pay cheques.. the rear discs are making the problem worse...even a slight drizzle made my back wheels to lock up and take a fish tail arc...
wishing you a speedy recovery and please do take care...
