                            • Route condition queries for Nepal ride

                              Hi All,

Looking for some local knowledge for planning a Nepal ride in Dec 2018:

                              1. I plan to enter Nepal with my bike from Sonauli-
Bhairawa crossing, spend about 9-10 days in Nepal and exit via a border crossing near Janakpur-Jayanagar to get to Darbhanga(India) then join the highway back to Gorakhpur. Can anyone tell me which is best border crossing to India near Janakpur/Jayanagar and if possible the road conditions from Janakpur - Jayanagar and Jayanagar - Darbhanga?

                              2. I plan to ride to Muktinath(Lower Mustang Valley) and rent a bike for this section from Pokhara. Is there a reliable place to rent bikes in Pokhara, any idea on prices? Also how are weather conditions in the Mustang valley area and in December in terms of Rain/Snow/Fog?

                              3. In the 9-10 days I have in Nepal which other places would you suggest to visit? As of now I plan for Pokhara(lake, temples), Lumbini, Muktinath, Janakpur, KTM(Square, temples). I know it wont even cover 20% of the places but are there place that would be better than these?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Hey there,I ain’t got all the info but if you want to travel to muktinath then make sure you get a really good sleeping bag cuz in december it will get really cold. You can rent a sleeping bag from trekking shop around Pokhara lake side street.

1.About the border i don’t know much about it and road condition cuz last time i visited only upto Janakpur via BP highway from Kathmandu. You can enter Kathmandu through Sindhuli (BP Highway) thats from janakpur.

2.For muktinath its better to take your own bike cuz renting a bike will cost around Nrs.2,500-3000 per day. Muktinath is a rain shadow area so less chance of rain.

3.Kathmandu (KTM) - Pokhara (PKR) - Muktinath and Lumbini within 9-10 days is managable but will be tiring. You can check in KTM via janakapur-sindhuli (BP Highway) then to PKR (Pirthivi Highway) then to Jomsom and muktinath and again back to PKR. From PKR you can go to lumbini via siddhartha higway via bhairhawa and check out through sunauli border which is close to Bhairahawa.
