Here I assume that antz.bin's remark was to make us participate & ask such questions on G2G's!

what i meant was since this is an exhaustive trip of yours, it would be better if you would come down to a g2g today (Since you are lucky to post it close to a g2g outing) and get it sorted out for route info and halts, Iam sure you are rider and understand that this is not a trip to the burger place you imagine at 12( I rather think never in your life)...

Actually this has nothing to do with you. We discussed the exact same thing like 5 days back, but on some thread where it was deemed OT and was deleted by the mods (instead of creating another thread where this discussion would have been relevant and moving the posts there). So, the only place you can store it safely, apparently, is your own mind .

Sure i do like to meet all of you. Nothing better than a good time with fellow riders. Infact I got my bike in mid-march & attended that week's G2G.
But lately the financial year end closing (31st March) meant too much work pressure & had to put other things on back burner.
Anyways, will see you all on coming G2Gs!

I am planning a solo ride to Karwar from Pune and return to Pune after 3-4 days in May. Has anyone done this route on bike? I am confused whether to take the dandeli route or the Goa route. There's another route which takes a turn at the start of Dandeli forest near Kumbarwada. Any kind of suggestion would be appreciated as this will be my first solo long-ride if I do it.

Went to Karwar and around area in 2005. Have a look at the following route.
Pune, Maharashtra, India to Pune, Maharashtra, India - Google Maps
Once off NH4, don't expect good roads. As road conditions keep changing with time, no info on latest conditions.
NH17, South of Goa has a bit of traffic.

Has anyone been to Delhi from Pune on Bikes?
Need Suggestions on the
1. Best route
2. Safe Route
3. Eatery/ Resting Joints
4. Any other input?

Came back from Delhi, a few months back. Took the following route:
Delhi - Jaipur (keep looking for the bypass to avoid entering city) - Kishangarh (get off NH8 here, don't go to Ajmer, the road ahead is under widening and not in best of condition at places) - Chittorgarh - Udaipur - Ahmedabad(stick to the ring road/bypass and the turn for Baroda is after the entry to e-way) - Baroda - Mumbai(At thane ask for directions towards Palm Beach Road) - Pune.

At places between Gurgaon and Jaipur, the road construction work is in progress, so try to cross it off peak hour traffic time.
Rest of the route is good.

Plenty of road side places to stop for eating. To halt for night, you will have to enter into the town. Have found very few options to stay for night, on the highway.

hey ... why is RedFlash and Professor with an '*' ?? BTW .. last night Redflash was caught flashing n Red-lining his ZAMMER in KP without any safety gears ... n a pillion female rider ... I wonder why ??

Roads from Pune till dandeli are fantastic with little bit of bad patches post Khanapur in belgaum. But trust me, the roads from Dandeli to karwar are just pothole laden & not in good condition. BTW dandeli is fully dry now & until and unless you are wishing to do some activities out there(it costs a lot for activities) its really not worth a visit this season. . . Better take NH17 via tahmini . Even tahmini has got a makeover and there are little less bad patches now. But NH17 will definitely take the toll on fatigue if you are not much experienced in terms of curves . . My suggestion would be . .

Go via NH17 (Pune-->Tahmini (or) A stawberry shake at panchgani then to poladpur)-->NH17-->Chiplun-->Sawantwadi--> Goa-->Karwar

And while returning back . You can take any of the following roads.

Karwar-->Ankola-->Yellapur-->Hubli-->Belgaum-->Pune(Here you can plan to visit yana caves in sirsi & roads are in decent condition )

The above route would cost a bit extra in terms of kms but would be easily doable in one day if you leave early form karwar.

P.S I am stressing it again here that NH17 will take toll on fatigue due to the heat and the traffic , so until and unless you are an experienced tourer I do not recommend this route for doing solo. NH4 is boring but safe and sound for all the adventures

Rafting : 1300-1500 (depends on bargaining , 9.5 kms with no more than grade 2 or grade 3 rapids ! )
Safari : 500 per head + 200 for guide ( early morning safari)
Kayaking : 250 - 350
Coracle Ride : 200
Natural Jacuzzi : 150

Hey thanks for the reply. I am not intending on stopping at Dandeli. It will just be a pass-through. My destination is Karwar ultimately. Did the rafting some 8 months back when I was in Dandeli. Its awesome. I guess I'll be better off with either the NH 17 o and Goa route.

Thank you for the map. You took a pretty long route. I don't know if I can manage that on my first solo ride. Its better I keep to the shortest route to Karwar via Goa as kartik says.

In a day, Pune - Karwar via NH17 all the way will be on the tougher side, as compared to NH4+Amboli.
While going to Karwar (though I didn't stop there), I did Pune - Goa, via NH4 & Amboli.
It was on the way back that I didn't want to repeat the same route & also I wanted to visit Jog Falls, that I took the route via Yellapur.

Do you even know what a Double Roti is?

If not, go watch Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikandar.. You will see Double Rotis in the scene when Kalpana Goes to buy Double Roti from RamLal's Cafe at Mall Road. RatanLal gives her Double roti and keeps a love note in between .

@Viper Why is Karwar of so much importance? I couldn't find anything interesting there
