Anyone has any idea about whether our IDL is a paper licence or not?

Sir, The plastic/card license that are like smart card which are issues in Delhi and other places and I guess in Pune as well... they work here. What I had was that old form type license which looks more like a form then a license, that isnt considered here.
However a friend of mine's license wasnt accepted as it was not going up with their formats ... as that license was printed on a pink colored card ... so he had to appear for the test. hehehe ...

I hope you are talking about the US? If yes, then I have rented a car twice in the States on my Indian License.

yeah ... in US .. NY state doesn't lend u any Cars on this ASAIK. I am not sure if that requirement varies??

The chain was clean. The rim had a 3mm even layer of dirt accumulated which I cleaned up.

maybe a calculation error then... a little bt of dirt shoudnt make any difference to the mileage....

Yup. Been riding your bike for last 3-4 days for commuting. I have now come to really love the FFE you have installed. It is absolutely silent when you are not ripping and goes full vocal on slightest provocation.

Our IDL is a paper license. It is a booklet slightly bigger than the passport. White colour with gold emblem. I got one from Hyderabad in 2010. AFAIK, it has'nt changed looks since then.
This book type license poses no problem to driving (in the US). Insurance for the rider becomes more important than the license itself when a cop stop you. If you rent a car/bike make sure you buy insurance for it (its some additional cost besides the rental package). For a bike, the insurance is costlier. This is how it works in the US; European countries have weird rules though.

The petrol pump next to Wakdewadi Subway got new machines which show upto 3 decimals in no. of liters.

I filled 200 bux petrol today in the bike and got 2.714 liters (at reduced prices).

My FE has also improved after they got their new machines, it was in the mid 30s with old machines, the last 3 occasions (After I washed the bike properly ) have been 44, 43 and 46.5.

Now I have a serious query, can the 1/2kg of dirt accumulated on the rear rim (aided by chain lube) help reduce FE? If yes, are there any scientific reasons for it?

Here is a possible answer. Dont kill me if it makes no sense :

When a tyre heats up during running, it tends to cool down in 2 ways. Through the metal rim and through the rubber itself. Metal rim dissipates heat faster than the rubber. The dirt layer here acts as an insulator and heats up the tire more than it should. On continuous running, there is a heat trap that is formed and contained by the air inside the tyre. This cause an increase in air pressure and a subsequent escape/leakage from the tyre. End result, loss in air pressure- increase in rolling resistance-increase in Fuel Consumption.
However, this argument makes sense only if :
1.Riding conditions and riding style remain exactly same. Highly improbable.
2. Riding hard in a way that heats the tyre up very frequently and for prolonged duration.

However, this shouldnt result in an FE difference of 7-8 kmpl as you quote. I have a feeling the petrol dispensing machines went really inaccurate and thus got replaced. These machines are supposed to be recalibrated every 6 months or so. You might have got lesser petrol than what you paid for in the former instance.

I have finally booked my KTM Duke 200 and now after the registration and stuff ill be getting my hands on it on 8th July ie Sunday when I reach Pune..
Just cant for the bike now..

Actually I wanted to ask a few things..
1. Is it complsory to attach the front number plate all the time..???
2. Though there is no Helmet compulsion in Pune, but due to my Love to my head I would like to buy one.. So could you guys please tell me a good shop from where I could buy a real good looking AND most importantly a strong and reliable helmet here in Pune.. I would like to buy it as soon as possible when I get my bike. So please tell me good shops to rely on..

Position of clutch

Guys, A General Technical Question -
While riding, when the throttle is in the closed position, what should be the position of the clutch?
1. When the clutch is pressed, the rpm is 1.5 K - 2 K.
2. When the clutch is not pressed, the rpm is where you close the throttle & then slowly comes down.
So which of the two ways is better? Economical?
Please don't consider engine braking!

For Fi Engines, If you are coasting in gear without the use of clutch, the fuel stops completely, so your vehicle is moving without using any petrol i.e. infinite kmpl instantaneous FE for the time the throttle was closed.

If however you press the clutch, some fuel is used for the engine to continue idling. You also lose engine braking and use brakes more, heat up your discs more, use up your brake pads more.

So, Option #2 will be the correct way to do it since it is both better and more economical.

Here is the Map (Dont know where you would start from). Also, you can get LS2 from other shops but they would quote more. & If you are going on KTM Duke, I would advise to take someone with you who would guard the bike. In case there is no one to company you, make sure you park your bike in front of the shop.
He would offer LS2, Cross, Studds (May be more like vega but not sure).
The default visor will be silver tinted. If you ride at night also, its advisable to exchange it with clear visor.
No there wont be any problem to ride without a helmet. But for your safety, its better to get helmet ASAP.
