I must say that the Pune thread makes for excellent reading (at least some posts). With Angrezi Goris, marriage, hidden meanings, scotch and absolute Puneri Marathi, I can say that this thread gives me some moments of respite from the otherwise busy and hectic corporate schedule.

All I can say is that whymail, icemang and trustvishwas bring a bit of maturity to this thread which prevents the usual bakar. It is as entertaining to read your posts as it is to see a Rishabh Shukla and Rohit aka Biru speak about their Bhoplalese (double meaning intended) adventures and cricket commentary. A meeting at a G2G is in order.

As regards to the Triumph scene, I also prefer Sake to Scotch...just that Sake tastes better for my taste buds

- despite being a fauji, is a god-fearing & even-more so, wife-fearing guy [full marks on this to him – all dutiful husbands are... no exceptions]
- from the recent-most post, it may be safely derived that he is ‘attal daaruda’ [for non marathi folks… pukka bewdaa… tuully-ho bandaa]
- aspires to have his own bakery, vineyard, triumph bonnie & triumph dealership someday!

@beruoist :
- lives in western & northern parts of india
- has an uncanny knack of riding his machine to areas where only mountain goats, yaks, horses & mules dare to venture when they are drunk!
- is capable of taking fotos of locations that are downright pristine, jaw-dropping & mesmerizing
- makes one wonder if he @ all has any so called mundane office / workplace like other unfortunate folks amongst us & if he ever rests his derriere on bed on weekends or he directly jumps on his saddle on a friday evening, only to get off a few dozen days thereafter.

as for tiny simpleton me, i am neither of the above... all i know is to puff my cohiba’s & chant hari om, hari om, [old monk, can’t afford any other distinguished makes as mentioned by @icemang] - i dont have the luxury of waiting for an angrez maddam / scotch to come my way in this birth & hence have made up my mind to give in to my obsession towards geisha's / sake

@niranjanvaidya. @whymail. As a youngster,I hated Scotch; I felt it was for the pansies of the Armoured Corps. The infantry drank rum. It took rum to put hair on a man's chest. "Fifteen men on the dead man's chest, yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum" and that sort of thing. The men drank rum so too did the officers. If an officer preferred whiskey, then he was considered ambitious and a man of private means too who could afford it. Also, some Officers' Messes prohibited the serving of rum at the bar as it was considered crude for an officer's refined taste buds. Utter rubbish...

During those days, the Indian Army had the best rums in the world - Hercules and Sea Pirate. What flavour, what aroma. Virtually no residue on the blotting paper. Straight up from the bottle itself, on the rocks, with hot/warm/cold/chilled water or soda, with Coke and in cocktails, Hercules was THE best rum in the world. Now, one has to swig that awful Old Monk and the horse piss called McDowell. And then from a bloody PET bottle. The good times have gone the Kingfisher way - down and out.

Also, it was too expensive to go ballistic on whiskey. But when a bender is needed, it is vodka. Nothing like vodka to get smashed on and yet resemble and feel like a human being the next morning. I can't get the original Russian stuff which is absolutely dry so have to make do with the oily Smirnoffs and Romanovs and Blue Fins. My first love is beer but it loves my waist as much as I love it so we have a love-hate relationship.

Now, with the passage of time, I appreciate two fingers of a good whiskey on ice, a nice cheroot, my favourite book and.... we enjoy each other's company. At the end of the day, nothing like a contemplative drink to put matters in their correct perspective. And when one has as wonderful a spouse as I have, who also enjoys the odd Black Dog, one does not have to talk to speak...

Straight from the heart...words of emotion flowing from the heart to the keyboard. You definitely know your poison and while Im at best a very modest drinker, a shot of Vodka or a mug of beer is enough for my undercarriage to lift up.

However, I do follow quite a lot on this addictive, intoxicating and invigorating heavenly stuff that mere mortals label as alcohol. While on this, I completely agree with you on the non-conformance of recent vodka labeled crap to the true nature of the Russian Vodka.
During a business trip to Moscow, I managed to pick two bottles of the finest Russian Army Regulation Vodka and boy-o-boy, was it good? Was addicted to it in no time and managed to gulp them down over a period of two months almost single handedly. This, till date, has been my biggest flirtation with the drink of the gods.

Thanks for invoking merry memories with the best vodka on the planet.

- Wrong. I own one bike. I have one exotic bike at home but I don't ride it. It is called Bajaj Saffire (1st bike in Pune)

- I do not intend to buy a litre class bike in near future. I really want to buy around 600cc bike but am stumped about what to buy.

Those who 1) take a whiff, 2) sniff, 3) sip, 4)swig, 5) glug and 6) deep-throat the bottle. You seem to belong to Category No. 1, else, who on Earth would it take two whole months to put away two bottles of as volatile a spirit as vodka? Heck, the level would have descended more by natural evaporation than your imbibing. But good for you. Regular alcohol consumption is habit forming and fast at that.

For me, in the company of my battalion officers, half a bottle of vodka usually gets chugged in one sitting . Normally, I don't drink more than two or three doubles in a day. When in a regular unit, it is some kind of a ritual to end the day with a couple of drinks at one's home or at some friend's place. In those days, we were a very closely-knit team of officers so 3 days in a week would find us guzzling each other's hooch. The ladies would conjure up a pot-luck dinner, the kids would be running riot and we officers would be talking shop. And then a couple of us were real party animals - music, dance, hulla-gulla. Such occasions are needed to do some "attitude adjustment".

My wife has her own lingo for my state of mind - hover, climb, cruise and orbit. So, usually, it is she who tells me to throttle back " You are cruising now, so go to economy mode else you will be in orbit" or words to that effect. Men know how much they WANT to drink whereas wives know exactly how much they SHOULD drink. For me, there is nary a clash betwixt the two - why struggle with the controls when there is a super-duper Automatic Alcohol (Flight) Control System ready at hand? It even doubles up as an Automatic Drive Control System hehe.

The rain has finally reached Gujarat and so there is very little riding for me. No company and the Contis will "Go" me into the ditch. Looking forward to riding with the Pune gang now.

u are right
the ones sported by eastwood were mostly cigarillos - prevalent in mexican & southern part of the usa & spain.
am a total cohiba churchill person... puff on one from start to finish accompanied by a ballantine's or a chivas [i prefer the former] spread over a few hours & u are already flying a sukhoi even while in bed!

Sharrab kabaab aur cigars should be a part of the the wednesdays after G2G coming to cheroot i had smoked it way back in 2006 in new delhi but could not find it in pune so now when i feel to smoke a cigar have to go and hit the King Edward which is abit sweet and takes too long to finish.
