Atul, Maverick chickened out

OF even on sunday evening asked, "Where is Maverick?".....but Mav had turned and burned baby!

All in all, was a nice ride. Rode out after a very long time, so it was very nice to catch up with old friends. And of course, our pan-India tourers as well

OF very kindly (or should i say cleverly ) gave me his R1 to ride, and the unique handling of that bike notwithstanding, it felt great to be back on an I4, and that too one looked after by OF. The engine was just electric and felt fantastic!

Unfortunately, I had to leave early as I had to travel. But like I said, a great ride

My maiden attempt at writing a log. This is a brain dump before I hit the bed ..

Starting Point:
Saturday, April 11th. Members of xBHP, Bangalore chapter gathered at Hebbal, waiting for the GIR3 team to arrive for the ride to Nandi hills.
The bunch of bikers attracted curious stares from the public. These days we are used to all the public attenion . Prajwal was upto some
wizardry, pulling eclairs out of thin air. The GIR team arrived led by Sksy. Even more public glare, with the Comet & stunning R's in our midst! Intro, & pics, followed. Shailay was seen handling PR with an onlooker.



& Off to the hills we go! There were initial jitters about the interceptor on the airport road. The lanes were marked marked 30, 60, 80 kmph & there was some confusion on which lane to stick to.

Stop 1:
We made a stop on the NH7 for photographs. Got to witness some fine balancing act by Sunny.

Stop 2:
Close to the hills we pulled up into a field to unwind and ‘X’ up. Few bikers were aroused by their primate instincts & took to the peepal tree in the field. Shailay managed the PR with a R15 passerby. Prajwal resumed his wizardry. Overheard: He has an eclairs distributorship. Jayprashanth the watch aficionado & myself had a nice banter on HMT.

Ascent:
As the bikers took to the hills, everyone disappeared from my view, lured by the enticing twisties. I managed to overtake three zero BHPians though, pedalling their way up . Darn, didn't get the pics.
Some interesting conversation ensued with the GIRians. They've experienced different road conditions, climate, cuisine, & even fuel. Man, they sounded road weary!

Descent:
After thodi si pet pooja, we started the descent. I loved the way R15s were creaming the twisties. I Did few hard leans, & rear tyre side walls showed some wear - a good sign or am I hallucinating?! Had one of those OSWAID (oh s..t what am I doing) moments, when I nearly ran wide in a lean. Continued to fix my gaze on the road ahead, and straightened. Dunno if it was it my reflexes, or my guardian angel? There are moments when our reflexes have got to be faster than our thoughts. Supposing that the combat pilots do it all the time - react before that electrical signal jumps the dendrites.

Way down, Praful was setting up video cam. Sunil saar lined up bikers in a single file, (no pics, again!) rang up Praful from my phone and started passing instructions in Kannada! Not sure what Praful made of it.

Formation riding is hard on a crammed NH. We had to weave between BMTC, trucks, & cagers. Praful did good work herding the wild horses. Nevertheless, I kept Prajwal in my view. That would take care of speed limits, without having to glance at the speedo. Prajwal's riding is akin to starched crisp Arrow shirt, whitened by Ujala! Spot on with his handsignals, trailing him was a joy alongwith Maverick at starboard, & Pranay, Veda hovering near by

On the way back to the city, few split off at Hebbal. The GIRians & rest of the bikers headed to CCD RT Nagar. A great weekender for us XBHPians, & for me which otherwise would've been spent lying on my back.

@TomSawyer: It was good to meet you man I love the photo you've taken of me and OF. I now have proof that my weight reduction efforts have resulted in a straighter outline so to speak

My log is as follows:

Woke up at 5.30 with a heavy hangover (not of the bottle, but of riding). Had just returned the previous night from Coimbatore from a wedding function, which started really early the previous morning (3.30 AM ). So even though I definitely needed more sleep, I rode back and to my surprise, I didn't have any fatigue issues. Probably the low distance and the great roads did the trick.

So dragged myself out of bed and got ready for the ride, as well as my trip to Mumbai. The plan was to head to Mumbai on work after meeting up with the guys, and I got myself a conveniently timed flight as well.

Reached Esteem Mall, and I had a reunion of sorts with old friends and new ones as well. It was good to see some of the guys who are more active nowadays. Soon, the pan-India riders arrived, and a quick intro round later, we rode out.

OF gave me his R1 to ride, and it was nice reuniting with the R1, even though it wasn't mine (Sleep well Phwoar). OF's magic touch and gentle riding style clearly showed, with the R1 purring and running beautifully. The front tyre had worn itself to a ridge and it was a handful getting the R1 to change direction.

We hung out for a while at the Banyan tree, witnessed some funny moments, turned down offers to race with an R15 and an FZ16 Headed up to Nandi Hills, where we quickly descended on the sole shop there and gave him some brisk business. After some photos, it was time for me to get going to the airport, and I said my goodbyes to all the guys, and left. I hope I get to spend some more time and ride with the newer chaps in the coming future.

So that was it, a nice quick ride to Nandi Hills with some great company!

however tom..i am waiting for your share of the snaps of the Bangalore event..

Im an ardent convert of OF's/rossiter's running-in advice. The bike is running awesomely. Another 500-1000 kms and im gonna be doing a high-speed run till Mysore !
