    • Nagarjunasagar Ride

We started back at around 3:30 & reached my home by 5:45.
Took longer than usual as we were riding very slow.

But I somehow liked the way we were riding in this ride.
      Always looking after the others.
The attitude of Raj, Riaz & Rahul were very good during the ride.
The group was never looking/waiting for others.
We are always together throughout the ride.

Riaz as Usual was cool in the ride.
      Sticking with the group always.
He is an experienced tourer so no more comments.

Raj on the other hand was new to touring.
The best part of his ride was he was adapting to the group well.
Whenever there is a new rider in the group the whole group becomes tentative.
Mainly because the new riders get carried away & ride unsafely.
But Raj never made us feel that we are riding with a new tourer.
      He was driving very safely.
In fact we were pushing him to be faster at times.

Now what should I say about Rahul???
I previously rode along with Rahul & he always sticks with the rider in front.
He literally tails the rider in front.
He is a pleasure to ride with.
He understands the rider in front easily.
      Very good group riding skills.
      Kudos Rahul!!!

even am confused. Bike came to a complete stand still when it fell reserve. Filled in for 50rs (0.99ltr). Rode at 64-83kmph all through the 51kms and once i hit 98kmph with a pillion.

                Will check it again tomorrow

                    Hey thanks for the appreciation.
Even iam relatively new here but with enough prior experience in high speed riding as i used to ride with my friends in intermediate days to a few far off places.
My policy is when we are in a group we are one group.

They both are riding together for the first time. So Prabhakar might have mistaken Raj to be new as he was riding a bit slower probably to be on the safer side.

Yes that would have been the mixup I believe Raj is back to touring on the bike after a loooong break. And yes, he is one of the slowest and steadiest riders.

Raj, Sumit, and Ravi were always slow and steady while boo, me, and ravi kiran were always zip zap zoom

                        • Sorry for the Mix up.
Raj told me on saturday that he never went for long rides like these.
May be he meant an overnight camping ride.
But I thought he was talking about a long ride.
I know he drives on the highway.
Also on Sunday during Lunch he stated first time he is riding like this & enjoyed it a lot for its unique way.
If U see my earlier post I was saying that he never felt like a new tourer.
Also my comment on him was that he has excellent riding skills on the Highway.
I may be wrong on his experience but I'm still sure on his way of driving on the highway - Confident & safe.
I once again apologize for the confusion caused.

All of you guys are right. I was new to this kind of touring(if I can say so, I think anything more than 500km and more than one day as touring)

                              Apology acknowledged .
This one was first - In high speed riding, camping and on a big bike(no back or neck pain after reaching home, thanks to the big-bike).
The last longest ride is still Nagarjuna Sagar ride to & fro in a single day! I think that one was in 2008. Riders - myself, sagar, ravi, ravi kiran.

Some one asked to rate Prabhakar! he makes a good lead. Only thing is he is too fast to keep up with him. It scares me to keep up with him.

Things I would want for the next group ride:

                              1. Speeds above 80kmph should be avoided. You might be good at high speed riding, but that will put lot of peer-pressure on the fellow riders. Yes I was guilty of this peer-pressure yesterday. At the same time I was always worried about Rahul and Prabhakar because of their speeds especially for the initial 35km from Nagarjuna Sager. Few of us can recollect what I am referring to(the bushes on either sides; Buffaloes, pigs, Cows running across the road from behind the bushes))!!

                              2. Maintain safe distance(at least 3 seconds from the bike in front of you). Rahul, you need a whipping with you pants down. You maintain less than two seconds gap. Thank god, your bike has a rear disk break!!! BTW, check you breaks, I think one of the pads is in its last stages, its squeaks!!!

                              3. Keep the breaks duration as only 2 min. Riding at 100 to 120 kmph and breaks at every 40kms for 5 min can be matched with breaks at 50kms for 2 min - with less mental strain.. In that two min, do mild knuckle exercises and bend your back backwards couple of times(geez!! dont break it), rise you hands and stretch them.

                              4. Keep a target of around 50km per hour including the breaks. Yesterday in spite of my slow riding and big breaks, we covered more than 60km per hour.

I think the suspension should be set soft, it will save your backs. Tight set-up, keep it for the track, not the roads and highways!!! - Provided, we are not planning to do higher speeds(which we should avoid anyways)

I am nearing to become a sage and yes I need to go Himalayas - in other words get leh'ed!!!

You have already become a sage.
                                • I do maintain over 2 seconds gap. Iam always in sync with the rider in front. U brake, i brake. U accelerate, i accelerate. U turn, i turn. U dodge, i dodge. This works out really good at high speeds with similar riders.
Yeah my pads are almost totally gone. That squeaking was there from day 1 of the new pads. Bajaj quality!
                                • Iam not exactly a tourer. Iam more of a sane high speed rider who at times can push himself really hard & tours long. U will understand after i do Leh & SaddleSore next year.
                                • I guess your @$$ was hurting coz my suspension is really stiff. For me soft suspension doesnt work. Reason being i dont like soft rides & i maintain average speeds of over 95 kmph while cruising. Your suspension is pretty soft. Had tough time at corners.
                                • Coming to breaks we need to wait atleast till all the riders come. Covering 50 kms per hour is too low! I intend to do about 70-80. Usually i take breaks every 1 hour irrespective of the distance and the cruising speeds.
                                • I feel its better to cruise at higher speeds (90kmph+) and a few minutes extra to relax than cruise at lower speeds (70kmph+) and break for only 1 or 2 minutes. Our @$$ can relax more. Again the mental stress depends from person to person and varies extensively.
                                • I understood your idea of being on the safer side. I wouldnt wish to comment anything on that. I can just say the speeds i do is well within my braking limits.
