  • Hey guys,
From the Pune clan, shifted base to Navi Mumbai now. Would love to make it for this 'MEGA' meet, but not quite great with the Mumbai roads, so wanted some assurance from Navi Mumbai folks that I won't be the only one at the McDonalds meeting point.

Any Navi guys confirmed?? Please help this kid..

    • Road Update

Forgot to update the road conditions from my past 2 rides.

Ride to Ellora Caves, Aurangabad (18-19-20 August, 2012)
      Route Map :- https://maps.google.co.in/maps/ms?ms...fa380b0b&msa=0
      Panvel-Pune : NH4 : As usual in mint condition.
Pune-Nagar : SH27 : One of the best SH MH has to offer.
Nagar-Aurangabad : SH60 : Again one of the best SH in MH.
Aurangabad-Ellora Caves : NH211 : Narrow NH without divider having lot of twists and turns with trees on either side. The ghat just between Daulatabad fort and Ellora Caves is amazing and has some perfect corners with mesmerizing views. Road is smooth but beware of oncoming traffic.
Ellora Caves-Shirdi : A mix of bad and very good tarmac still a healthy speed could be maintained throughout. Almost 90% was w/o divider.
Shirdi-Sinnar : SH39 : Amazingly smooth with panoramic green landscapes. Loved riding on this stretch.
Sinnar-Ghoti : Again one of the best road I've rode till now. The picture below will explain it all.

Best part was visit to one of the windmills which you see along the road on either side. The sheer enormity of it makes you feel like a dwarf as seen in following pic.

Ghoti-Thane : NH3 : Remains the best highway originating from Mumbai. Do I need to say anything more ?
Summary : Although the route chosen was longer the whole point was to enjoy the journey rather than reaching the destination early. And we were lucky to get 90% good roads overall.

Ride to Shivtharghal and Varandha Ghat (2nd Sept, 2012)
      Route Map :- https://maps.google.co.in/maps/ms?ms...0241c6a7&msa=0
Panvel-Mahad : NH17 : My first ride of this season on NH17 was surprisingly appeasing except the notorious Pen-Vadkhal stretch which the government has decided to preserve as World Heritage Sight (Pun intended) the entire highway was smooth and relatively empty. It already well-known for its scenic quotient and I don't intend to repeat it. But it still remains relatively dangerous NH to ride on thanks to the unruly ST/Tourist buses/cars overtaking even on blind turns one of which nearly missed me by arm's length.
Mahad-Shivtharghal : SH70 : As expected the road was narrow and mix of bad and smooth stretches. It became worse once we left SH70 and took the road towards Shivtharghal but the scenic beauty it has to offer is unparalleled. This pic will tell the story.

Shivtharghal-Varandha Ghat-Bhor : SH70 : The road which goes further from Shivtharghal towards SH70 is one the worst stretch we encountered. Its a upward winding road with no tarmac but only gravel and loose rocks lying all over the road. Its wide enough to allow only 1 vehicle at a time to pass at many tight corners. Though only few brave hearts dare to take this route beware of occasional on-coming buses/jeeps/six seaters which will take you by surprise while you are busy negotiating the blind corners on this kutcha road. Once the road joins SH70 things turn smooth for good till you reach the top of Varandha Ghat. This section was epitome of our ride. The whole area is like the Jurassic Lost World as SH70 has minimal traffic and only few vehicles use it. We were greeted with dense fog and windy rain and some awesome views of waterfalls. In short the whole journey to reach this part of the road paid off. After the ghat section the road turns bad with pot holes and gravel. Gradually it winds around the periphery of Nira-Deoghar Dam which has to offer some mesmerizing views of its back waters before terminating at Bhor.
Bhor-Kapurhol : This road is bit boring except the section which goes alongside the Bhatghar dam. Again its bit rough to a rider's comfort.
Kapurhol-Pune-Panvel: NH4 : In mint condition as usual. Best reserved for the return leg when you just want to rip your way to home !
Summary : Although the ride was not a smooth one but the sheer beauty of Shivtharghal and Varandha Ghat pays off the efforts you put in to reach here !
