So gimme a buzz when ever you come down to Mumbai and organize such a thing. I'll try my best to come to Panvel and hang out with you guys. Only thing is, you'll have to arrange me a stay for the night. I won't ride to Dadar very late night. Am a bit scared you see...

Btw, thanks for reminding me bout all the Mumbai members.. Most of them are underground now a days

        • Bike documents

Hi friends. I have a slight doubt about the documents we need to carry while commuting locally in cities. Following are the documents I carry along
          1) Driving license (Valid & original in my wallet)
          2) Insurance papers (Originals in my bike)
          3) RC book (Colour copy in my wallet)
          4) Bike invoice (Duplicate in my bike)

I dont have a PUC certificate since people say I wont need that since its a new bike (FZ16) just a couple of months old.

Please suggest whether I should get the PUC certification done or I can carry the PUC sticker provided by Yamaha in the booklet (as suggested by few FZ owners)

Further I am highly confused about carrying my original RC & insurance either in my wallet or bike since my elders suggest that in the event of loosing the wallet or bike being stolen, I would have to go through a lot of troubles without the original documents with insurance people, police etc

I do not favour riding without all the originals but i guess my elders have a valid point. So I request for your inputs.

PS: Do traffic authorities in mumbai let us get away if we are carrying a copy of RC & insurance??

          Thanks.

Carry the PUC provided by Yamaha in your bike till it's validity. It's very imp. Cops may put you in trouble for PUC.

As for original DL or RC getting lest, before carrying the originals in your wallet, keep a xerox copy of the same at your home. If you it gets stolen then you can provide the xerox at the RTO and will get the other copy of DL/RC from RTO. At least I follow these guidelines. Even I'll wait for other expert comments.

            • a photocopy suits the purpose....better get them attested & keep in bike...
PUC ain't required in the initial months (period unknown to me)

originals keep at home except when you are touring. At that time you can keep it in your bag.

ps:most importantly talk in marathi if cops catch.70% chance they let you go.

Bro I do have a lots of xerox copies of my documents @ home. But AFAIK from a personal experienceof close frniend, gettin duplicate DL, RC etc from RTO on the basis of ur xerox copies is a huge headache. Further, in worst case scenario, if your bike gets stolen with original RC/insurance in it, it would me mighty difficult to chase around Police dept to lodge the complaints, Insurance dept for claims without original documents & on top of that wonder around the RTO officials for duplicate RC just to be submitted to Police/Insurance guys. About DL, i'm bit relaxed but even a valid original DL is required for insurance claim. So the doubt remains buddy.

Do Traffic aauthorities acknowledge attested documents equally with the originals?? I guess its a fair idea. As it is I'm carrying copies of my RC so it wud'nt hurt to get it attested. About documents while touring, my opinions agree with you.
PS: I kno hw useful marathi is 2 get out of d arguements easily.. Thankfully did not get much chance yet to try out my marathi skills with d cops

Well my experience was slightly different than yours then. May be it's because of a friend of mine who works with Tardeo RTO and made my work a bit easier. I had lost my DL sometime back and fortunately I had a xerox of it at my place. With the help of that friend I got the DL without much hassle.

And bout RC getting lost with the bike, It's the exact reason I suggested you to carry the RC smart card/booklet in your wallet n not in the bike. Even the insurance, keep a xerox in the bike. Not the original. I have had no probs with nakabandi with these much documents/xerox with me. And I carry my DL and RC in my wallet n not bike.

Well, this reply of urs does clear up a lot of my doubts. So attested copies of RC/Insurance etc in bike & original DL/RC in wallet seems to be optimum solution. About the PUC ?? Its just a sticker on 1st page of my user manual. Should I tear off the entire page & carry it along with me??

PS: Glad 2 kno u got a friend at Tardeo RTO.. I fall in the same zome & my bike as well as DL is registered with the same RTO so I could use your help someday

Yes, it's always better to carry the PUC in your bike. No PUC = another reason for cops to put you in trouble. They can chalan you on any stupid reason. One fine day I was pulled over by a cop and he asked me for the documents. I showed him all the documents which I carry(in above mentioned format). He had nothing left to argue, so he asked for PUC. When I showed him the PUC as well, he charged me number plate fault. He said you don't have front number plate and sticking the number of front mudguard is not allowed. what could I say, just paid him and left w/o aruing..

PS: for the RTO thing, anytime dude

ohh yeah.. and the Pune thread is on fire these days...

DK must be busy completing the run in period of his new found love. But am sure it wont take him much time to complete it as his daily commute itself consists of ~90 kms both ways

Glad to discuss this issue, I never thought about PUC being so important especially 4 a new bike. Anyways I'll make it a point to carry it along today onwards.
I can understand your number plate waala situation coz I was in a similar kinda situation on early morning of 2nd january after a tiring 1st ever trip to alibaug on bike on 1st january 2010. I was riding with kinda sore butt & I took a left turn through wrong middle lane. Cops took my DL & informed me about my mistake in lane crossing. I was'nt in much mood 2 argue (I could have used marathi conversation that time ) so I ask them to settle on & he demanded 200 rs I shockingly asked for what & he said I had two infractions, 1 lane cutting & 2 frond number plate sticker on mudguard. I pleaded on my innocence about the illegality of front number plate & he quickly agreed to let me go off wit Rs 100 only but he warned me to change back the number plates to standard ones.

PS: I have'nt changed the number plates yet, though I intend to do it sometime soon.
