    • Chennai soaked in Rain

Did anyone get drenched in the morning rain today? Well, I did.
No car today, as its with M.A.S.S for last 2 days, apparently for no reason in the name of checking brakes!!!

I thought of WFH today, but then dismissed the thought as I wanted to experience riding in rain. This time I decided to pull Activa out; also I didn't want to see Rx in mud. But Activa helped a lot to keep my foot clean. I couldn't get the second pair of rain coat even after turning the house upside down, so I only left with a bag containing laptop, office formal wear & inner garments; the bag was nicely wrapped in a plastic cover; shoes were placed under the seats; I didn't wear the gloves to shorten its life span further

Dressed up in casual attire with jeans & a shirt under the two piece junk called rain coat & then started riding. Next 30 Kms are to be completely soaked in water. Wifey asks, how do you take care of water filled pot holes? I replied, I know the roads. Yes, I do know the roads as I've been on this road for over 10 months now; I know most of the shops by name on the way; I know the time by which I reach home without a watch; I know the stretch to watch out; I know the stretch where morons like to ride wrong way; I know the humps where they appear out of no where; I know the wait time at each signal.

After 2-3 Kms, I know there are a few droplets of water in jeans; but I don't care as I know I've spare clothes. I was almost singing & riding while most cars were driving damn slow. That reminded me of this thread http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/pit-stop...ring-rain.html; but I gave a damn to those splashing water on me & continued enjoying the ride.

As I was waiting at Porur signal, I observed there were lots of water droplets inside the visor too. I was wondering how did that happen. Also I noticed clouds within the visor blocking my vision; I know they will go away once I start riding. Anyway, I still kept up the pace & was riding. For some reason I found the roads to be unusually free considering the fact that I started late than usual today.

While getting down from Guindy bridge, all of us have to swerve left due to Metro Rail construction. I was on good speed & was overtaking a Indigo when a Volvo started honking at me; I overtook the Indigo & gave a big waving hand to Volvo indicating to overtake me; the moron stopped honking.

Proceeding towards Rajbhavan, I could see every single vehicle on the left side having their left turn lights ON. It was hilarious to notice that.

After Anna University, an AP registered Alto guy was flashing his right turn lights & was overtaking in left.

After the Kotturpuram bridge, traffic was little heavy & took several minutes to turn towards RG salai. Oh!!! RG here means, Rajiv Gandhi

Once on express highway I was speeding constantly at 60 & there were usual track riders on both cars, but surprising to see not anyone on motorcycles.

Finally when I parked the scooter, I realized that it was not few droplets, but it was the entire jeans that got wet; shirt was ok though. I noticed the time; I've been riding for a few minutes over an hour, which is almost the usual riding time.

Actually this is my first experience of riding to office by a two-wheeler for such a long distance. Though I enjoyed, I don't want to do it again ; may be I like to do it with a 250cc scooter. One thing for sure, Activa was damn better than any motorcycle in rain.

What if you put panic breaks on Active over 50 kmph in wet roads

Amit, if I know my ride well, if I know the roads well, if I keep watch out for morons, then I don't need to panic right? But, there're always room for errors, we can only minimize them. Same things are possible even with Audi A8 or BMW X5 as well

PS - 60 Kmph was between Nolumbur-Maduravoyal-Chennai bye pass AND OMR where we usually touch 3 digit speeds on our motorcycle when sunshines
