So I guess I'm in for the meet but not for the ride, unless I get my bike serviced before the ride which I currently do not have the time for.
    1. Police cannot confiscate your bike on ground of being TN registered
    2. RTO officials can impound your bike if they have enough reasons to believe that you have been in Bangalore from a period greater than 11 months.
    3. You DO NOT need an NOC to ply your bike on KA roads. All you need (officially) is to pay the Life Time Road Tax in KA, details of the calculations of this amount are available on the KA RTO website.
    4. NOC is ONLY needed if you want to re-register your bike in KA. But if you pay Life Time Road Tax then there is NO NEED to re-register the bike in KA.
    5. You can escape these thieving a-holes, if you can provide enough proof that you have been here for a short time i.e. less than 11 months. Cops will come up with different versions of the timeline you have to pay up the road tax, but 11 months is the official statement as per KA MV Act.

PS: I've been riding a TN registered bike in KA for the last 5 years, yet to pay LTT! It is breaking the law, but if the system is f**ked up then I'm not going to pay!

Where's the route in this? What you've just described is a straight road

No need to enter Pune, if one takes the Katraj bypass in Pune then its a straight road to Old Mumbai-Pune highway!

Sri I remember we met in 1st week of Aug only so even now you can get back your fine refunded if you have the receipt of fine with you and any valid letter by your company mentioning the date when you have moved in the city.
My friend was caught once and he did the same.
Rest for future Praful has given good solutions.

Always mentioning a g-map route is not helpful.
Even g-map has not many routes of India mentioned in its map what we bikers follow to explore.
Mentioning names are always quite helpful than memorising the g-map(in my case).
And if one simply read the names of places enroute and consider it as straight road then almost all types of route info should be considered as mentioning about straight road only.
Moreover he can or rather he would have already googled the g-map for this. Always googling doesn't helps, rather mentioning the names and deviations are more helpful.

Well I mentioned the Pune outer thing there in the route info to avoid the Pune City just missed out to mention the name : Katraj By pass(thanks for the catch).

Not sure if you have ridden/driven down that route, but Mumbai (straight arrow - xyz kms) is pretty clearly marked throughout the route.

One has to have a really really really sucky sense of direction to mess up this route more so now that the Chitradurga-Haveri section is also complete.

One of the most common routes which I have ridden numerous times, even when route was not proper(narrow roads) and even now when only 2 deviations are left in between Tumkur-Chitradurga section.
Yes the sign board properly specify Mumbai route which again is a straight line road. SO no need to mention any route or so called any route link.

By d way who have covered this route will only give this detailed info

And now since this whole route is almost complete, its more boring upto Hubli to ride just in single straight directions for miles and miles.
Completion of Chitradurga-Haveri route again adds on to same fast moving broad road.

The only section where one has to be smart and very very very cautious enough is the Gabbur-Kelgeri road(avoiding the Dharwad city), since it has no dividers and the upcoming-downgoing traffic round the clock is very fast and dangerous too and one single miss can be fatal. Most number of accidents are recorded on this section.

Else there is a simpler solution. Every vehicle from outside the state is expected to register with karnataka rto if it is a long term stay i.e. one month and above. A ploy to avoid this is by showing a receipt tht says u moved into the state under a month ago. What am about to suggest next is a grey area of law. U go out just till TN border fuel up over there and collect a receipt for the same. And when you are stopped u can present tht same receipt.

Thanks for the input guys! When I meant "pay" I meant the money did not go through official channels. I have a petrol slip from Chennai exactly 10 days old, he wouldnt accept it! Told I will call my boss, no go. He said I need NOC to even touch KA land, I know we have ridden many times through other states without NOC but I wasnt exactly sure it was needed or not and the f***er used it to his advantage. Plus he was drunk, seemed to be a patriotic Kannadiga.. spent 1hr in the police station, saw no way through so made the "payment".

Funny thing is, I never "paid" a police official in Chennai.

            @Praful

Thanks for clarifying man! I will speak up next time. The police guy was drunk, he just took my bike and went. I had to take a auto and find the station. It was late night too and found the bike dropped in the parking lot of the station.

If you know you have done nothing wrong, you have every right to stand your ground.

These cheapskates have tried these tricks in various states with me, simple answer NOC not needed if you are not re-registering. Tell them you will pay road tax if you will be in the state for more than 11 months. This is as per the Motor vehicles act !!

BTW, I've "paid" in Chennai .. first time for running with no registration number 50 bux and next time for overspeeding. 100 bux But this was in 2007, prices may have gone up

According to KA RTO website, the LTT has to be paid before we can ply the vehicle on KA roads. LOL but I calculated my LTT and it comes to 9K. So now I'm fine with the payment I made but they could have atleast not dropped my poor bike.

                • 1. What I have to do when I bring an other state vehicle to Karnataka State ?
How the tax is assessed? Change of address has to be intimated within 30 days before the Jurisdictional Regional Transport office.

If the vehicle is purchased from outside state bearing other state registration mark then Transfer of ownership has to be intimated within 30 days before the Jurisdictional Regional Transport office.

Before using the vehicle in the state of Karnataka you should pay Motor vehicle Tax.

Hahaha.. the thing is in Chennai I will just sit with the police till they let me go! Chennai's cost of living is still cheaper so hopefully the "prices" have not been hiked.

Dude, are you joining us for the meet or ride? It will be good to have you.

The highlighted phrases are operative words here. You can always argue that there has been no 'change' in address. Otherwise, this rule would make passing through Karnataka state without paying LTT impossible. That would be against the Federal nature of our country!!! Whoever has written that in the website has not applied his/her mind.

Transfer of ownership is not relevant to this incident I presume.

Dude I can understand your problem, Even I faced this thing in Delhi, but was sorted soon. You should had stick to your point rather would had said on his face that you are trying to obey your duty while you are drunk. How can you you drink and be on duty. Rather bit of harsh, firm words would had made them soft.
I know its easy to speak here but you could have tried. And even now you can revert back to Bangalore Traffic police and get your fee refunded after showing the receipts.

Even you can post your problem on Bangalore Traffic Police FB page, the page is handled by ACP Bangalore Traffic police Dr M.A. Saleem and he reverts back to each complain. Also if you would have clicked pic of those police goons then do post and their names too.

See you have numerous ways to get rid of it if you are not wrong.

Anyways I also sat and had chit chat with Chennai traffic police when I was caught in no entry area :P :P. luckily he left me
