re: The Official Bangalore Offline Meet (G2G) Thread
Thanks Saquib for the info on the bangalore mumbai route. I was confused about doing 1000 km in one go vs taking a sleeping break (which would mean time wasted in finding a room). I love to ride in the morning so now I am planning to start by 3:00 am, hell even 2:00 am if I am not getting any sleep. Was looking forward to mumbai pune expressway. Sad to know its not open for 2 wheelers. But the Old mumbai pune highway, sleek and twisty, as you have reported, sounds fun.Originally posted by saquib3005 View Post
Wish I could have joined you but I have some other plans in pocket for 7-8-9 sept weekend.
Regarding the route plan.
Do start early morning, very early if you have plans to reach Mumbai in one day without any night halt. So a start at 3:30am will be fine for you(PS: better have proper rest anad sleep and please dont booze/get high a night before the ride).
Reminding you its not just 500+ but rather 1000+ ride from one side.
Follow this route: Bangalore-Neelamangala-Tumkur-Hiriyur-Chitradurga-Davangere-Hubli(not hubli but deviation from Gabbur)-Dharwad Outer-Kittur-Belgaum outer-Nipani-Kolhapur By pass-Karad-Satara By Pass-Pune interior(take old Pune Mumbai Highway as the new highway is not allowed for 2 wheelers)-Lonavala-Khopoli Deviation-Chowk-Panvel or Panvel Railway Station-Mumbai
Just keep a note you have to enter Pune(bug your head in traffic) and take old Pune Mumbai Highway and just avoid Mumbai Pune Expressway as it is not allowed for 2 wheelers.
If you start at 3:30 then you can easily make upto Sira and have breakfast there. But dont expect many options there. Better carry on biscuits and plenty of water(if possible electrol powder and glucose also).
After Tumkur you will have Chitradurga only as the place for good food options. But the Road is enclosed with concrete walls from sides, so you have to take deviation to service roads at start of the town to hotels. Proper no of petrol bunks in between this route.
Davangere is again where you can get good food. Roads are awesome(Chitradurga to Davangere) 3 lane road and proper no of petrol bunks here too.
After Davangere upto Hubli outer(Gabbur), roads are again black tarmac 3 laned, but not very good food options with lesser number of petrol bunks so be cautious of ur fuel level.
In Between Davangere to Hubli(Gabbur), just follow the NH4 and don't enter any towns in between.
Upon Reaching Gabbur take a left towards Dharwad road and don't go to Hubli. From here narrow roads will start without proper dividers upto Dharwad road.
Keep following the NH4 upto Dharwad outer and dont enter Dharwad and keep proceeding on to NH4.
After Crossing Dharwad again broad 3 laned concrete-black tarmac roads will start upto Begaum and again try skipping Belgaum. Enough of food options on either side of the road with all proper fuel bunks too.
After skipping Belgaum city you can proceed to Kolhapur crossing Nipani, enroute very good food options and scenic beauties all around
Again try avoiding Kolhapur city and keep following NH4 Golden Quad. and Reach Satara. Here you can have good food options petrol bunks too.
Just be cautious as now you would be covering Ghat Road with heavy Truck Lorry Traffic.
While going from Satara to Pune Just be cautious while crossing the Tunnels as it very wide and trucks are really in high speed with lot of loads. even the road at some ection is not proper so be cautious of road repairing machines.
After reaching Pune(at pune outer only) ask for the closest route to Old Pune Mumbai Highway and follow that route.
This route is mind blowing and you will love the narrow roads with lot of natural beauties.
Dont get HIGH after seeing young couples on this route.
Lot of food and petrol options.
if you are stopping anywhere just park your bike at good distance from road as speeding cars even overtakes from the edges of the road.
after reaching Lonavala you will see the natures beauty all around(hope no bad rains).
After crossing lonavala you will be on Pune Mumbai Expressway for some time, so dont worry follow the expressway and cross Khandala Ghat section.
Just after crossing the Khandala Ghat Section, there will be a deviation with Board Mark specifying Mumbai via Khopoli and Mumbai Pune Expressway, take deviation and follow the Mumbai via Khopoli route.
after that you may get confused with small roads all around so ask people around and Reach Chowk, after that proceed to Panvel.
From Panvel ask for the Navi Mumbai route. Here just be cautious that you take the Navi Mumbai route and dont take up the Kalyan route.
After Reaching Navi Mumbai you can easily go ahead to Mumbai.
Since it will be a very long ride, I would also suggest you to take Small water breaks of 5-10 min after every 130-150kms, because if you will overstretch you wont be comfortable to even reach to Pune.
Stay calm and safe and dont offend the truck drivers.
Padh k gaali dene k mun kare to de dena but shayad it may be helpful to you.
Feel free to ask any anything.
And please dude dont make multiple comments consecutively rather append all the comments in one comment box.
Bro is this list for the ride on 1st or for the G2G of 31st.
Every one who are confirming please specify for which event you are coming.
Bangalore xBhp Ride 1: Ride to Avalabetta(1st Sept)
Bangalore xBhp G2G spots:1st G2G @Kadambam,Jayanagar(31st Aug)
Had visited Gokarna 2 3 years back and remember the roads around Hubli as okay but crowded with lots of trucks carrying mud or some ore or something. So that was the major concern. So ill check the route posted by you (diversion from gabbur etc.) Thanks again for the info.
Other big problem which I feel for touring on CBR 250 is the mileage especially with my half clutching habits. I think I am getting 20 - 25 kmpl ( so need a refuel every 250 - 300 kms), never checked it though. One of my friends had suggested to stop clutching as it take a toll on the clutch plate, but my belief is that riding becomes very smooth and I get more control by half/partial clutching. Any info on "ideal clutching habits" is highly welcome.
Also ceebers fuel indicator is just stupid. Especially on hilly terrain the number of bars keep changing rapidly. For a full tank I get 6-7 bars, but usually after 60-80 km the bars drop to 3 bars where it stays for quiet a while. The last 3 bars are the most resilient. And finally I want to ask a noob question. How do you guys check your mileage? Because I think I still have 3 liters after the last bar starts to flash (which I am imagining as reserve, as there is no reserve/on/off switch as in other bikes). Also wanted to know how to check speed using GPS...
"Padh k gaali dene k mun kare to de dena but shayad it may be helpful to you."
No no no. No galis. Infact I am all praise
While coming back from Kodai, Praful had suggested a slight diversion, which infact was much better than the route we had taken as a group while going up. So I was sure that Ill get some tips at XBHP.
And again "the Katraj bypass in Pune and a straight road to Old Mumbai-Pune highway!" should be fine I guess.
yellowspunk: deepest sympathies for the bike. But you gotta take revenge on the drunken bastards. I am not even going to MG Road after booze parties respecting the Law and these guys are behaving like this just for the sake of a TN number [:X :X :X : X] Bollocks.
Was busy with office shenanigans so couldnt get in touch with you. Lets meet up sometime and hear your story.

Basically every time u hold down ur clutch ur clutch plates wear out, holding it (half clutching) increases the wear and tear much sooner than it normally would.Originally posted by Eternal Wanderer View Post... I personally feel that the bike is in more control when it's not in free ride but again I have read people suggesting that half clutching helps while cornering. So my guess is the comfort of riding on half clutch is a matter of personal preference, but as for ur friend suggesting tht ur clutch will wear out, m afraid he is right.
About the gps, if u don't have a dedicated device for it. I would suggest an app 'gps essentials', if you use an android based phone it works great to record as well as show ur gps stats while on the go.
