Re: The Official Bangalore Offline Meet (G2G) Thread
Here is a short story of G2G from my perspective...
At one of the GTA as usual one of us brought up the topic of G2G ride as it was a long weekend on April 8,9,10. As it was summer, the obvious choice would be go to some place cooler. After running through few options we had decided to go for Coonoor. Suvra and Rajesh started digging Internet for accommodation which is offbeat and little away from the mainstream tourists and boy they did succeed in their intentions.
We decided to leave early morning on friday and had set an optimistic time of 4am to group at rendezvous location on Mysore road. As a customary habit few of us were sleepless on thursday night and were discussing about the climate conditions, the climate app said "thunderstorms", oops. The kind of temperature Bangalore is hitting these days, nobody really bothered about rain, in fact we were ready to be drenched. One more bummer was that some of us(Suvra, Arnab, Sunil and Suhasa) were unable to leave on Friday because of work commitments, the rest were worried if they will join us or not.
One the day of ride, I woke up at 3:30am and started getting ready to leave, unlike any other G2G this time I was riding with a pillion(Dimple), I was trying hard not to be late but rain god had different plans. I checked whatsapp and the activity had already started. Our most prompt rider Rajesh bhai was already on his way and Indra was waiting for Rajesh to arrive at meeting point. I rushed and managed to leave home by 4:15am, within 2kms from my house it started bucketing down, this was not what I had subscribed for, not when it was hot summer yesterday. A drizzle or mild rain would be welcome but I guess the climate app was smiling on me sitting in my pocket for doubting its accuracy. We made a quick stop and covered our luggage and put on the rain gears. We reached mysore road rendezvous location at 4:45am only to find just 3more bikes (Prakash, Anu, Indra and Rajesh). Turns out, the rains kept everyone occupied.
At around 5:30am everyone arrived and we started off. Plan was to cover some 100 odd kms and stop for breakfast. We left and within 30kms we had made 3 stops as it was getting difficult to ride in heavy rain and car traffic. Everyone was concerned about the equipments they were carrying. By this time, Indra and Roshan decided to go back and come back on car with Indra's wife and daughter. Rest of us covered whatever we can in the luggage and continued our journey. Whole group was scattered because of rains and heavy traffic on mysore road, we called up each other and decided to regroup at Kamat hotel on Nanjanagudu road. we feasted upon good South Indian breakfast at Kamat hotel and continued riding, the ride from here till the Bandipura was sleepy, all of us were sleep deprived as leaving so early also means loosing on sleep unless you are very obedient to your plans. After a couple of stops the fun part began from Bandipura, with sighting of elephant, deer, peacock and many birds, we were cruising under 50kmph enjoying the view. Climbed the 36 hair pins of Nilgiris and reached ooty to a nice pleasant climate, we saw a lot of cars on the way with open hoods, the steep climb of nilgiri was lil too much for them to handle.
As I had mentioned earlier, the location for stay was an offbeat one, hence even finding it was no easy task. Though we were extremely hungry, the vistas en-route were mesmerizing and the well laid roads were welcoming, did not really felt that hunger until we reached the resort and were 20mins into appreciating the place. It was the only bungalow tucked in between scenic tea plantation and mountain stream passing right in front of our rooms. Food was served with no delay and was yummy (maybe it was the hunger). Rustling river homestay was the name, living its name and standing tall and beautiful at such an amazing place.
We finished our lunch and as per initial plan was to take a good nap before we go wandering around, but spellbound by the beauty of this place, giving up sleep was not really a bargain. Each of ourselves had us standing on one or the other corner starring indefinitely at the mountains, gazing the trees, birds, inhaling the aroma, lost in deep thoughts and some busy clicking the best of angles for everything was so picturesque.
We did not go out the first day as whatever stood in front of us could consume several days and there was no need for more. Perfect is the word. Also, since rest of the guys were yet to arrive next day we kept the wandering for tomorrow, for now, just relax. We sat there on the park bench with someone uttering a word or two in installments and gazing around. It was getting dark and the climate changed to rougher side with thundering and black clouds covering the sky. Since Indra, Theshma, Roshan and lil Jiah who were coming by car had still not reached the place and it was getting dark, we were worried. We checked with them and got to know that they were driving slow because of heavy fog and thunderstorms, and continued waiting. Once they arrived, we were glad to have lil Jiah join the G2G, she is 1.5 years old and loves bikes, so much when one has biker dad like Indra.
Outside it was lightning continuously for one and half hour and the power was gone. We got candle lights and continued our bakar bakar indoors. Somehow, the climate, location and situation called for ghost stories. we continued the party and by the end of night we were biting our nails. Suhasa had already informed that she wont be able to make it to G2G as her mom was in town. We were missing rest of our buddies who were yet to arrive next day. We planned some nice pranks for them and went off to sleep.
The next day, I woke up early for my usual habit listening to the murmuring outside by our early risers like Rajesh and Prakash bhai. When the place was so awesome during the day, you can imagine how the sunrise would be, with golden rays striking the greenery and birds chirping around. Continues the drooling with early morning tea and breakfast. Suvra, Sunil and Arnab had made an early start from bangalore, they had reached Bandipura by 6am. In no time they reached the place and leg pulling and laughter session started again. Next plan in the itinerary was to go to coonoor and have a narrow gauge train ride from coonoor to ooty and back. After settling down for a while we were geared up to go to coonoor, we stopped at different place for photo sessions. Once we reached coonoor, we realized that the train needs advance booking and it is difficult to get tickets for all of us, so we decided to have lunch at Hyderabadi biryani, everyone was so hungry again, something about these hills, we were hungry more often than ever. Since hyderabadi biryani house was packed with tourist with no place to dine we decided to head back to our own awesome place and feast on biryani, parcel it is. It looked like all the bikes and car went all the way and back to pick up this glorious Hyderabadi biryani which we hogged like kings and queens.
After biryani, everyone was high on food and were talking funny. While most of us decided to hit the sack and take a power nap some decided to go explore the place and find that waterfall which was nearby. Saquib, Sunil, Suvra, Souban left in search of waterfalls. Meanwhile, Dimple had an itch for throttle and was bored sitting as pillion, she borrowed an Activa from the resort owner. Dimple and I took some random direction and started riding through th tea estates. After some time we ran across rest of the gang who were exploring for waterfalls, we joined them and took the offroad path which according to locals would take us to waterfalls. We could hear the waterfalls but could not find it, we searched and searched, as it was getting dark and Dimple had to return the bike. We headed back, on the way we stopped at some random locations and had lots of fun clicking pics.
On reaching the resort, the bonfire arrangement was done already and tea was served. After tea, the bonfire was lit and fun filled bakar started with loud music. As per plan we did play some pranks on Suvra and Arnab, we had ourselves laughing and rolling on the floor. It was too much fun. Then before sleep we had some intense Ghost stories which left lot of us with goose bumps. Overall its was an amazing day.
Next day we left the place by afternoon. we decided to take Coonoor-Salem-Bangalore to avoid mysore-bangalore post weekend rush. We had a decent ride throughout the day till Shoolgiri McDonalds, from here we bid adios and headed striaght home. It was a great decision to extend the G2G to 2 nights instead of one, big thanks to Suvra and Rajesh to initiate and drive the whole G2G. And as usual, big thanks to Saquib for looking upon the routes and going one step ahead in making sure nobody is left behind. Everyone seemed happy and comfortable with each other's company, the beauty of the place added to the happiness. Nothing like a fun filled weekend with fellow bikers.
Cheers!
Sharad

Re: Split seats in Bangalore
Hi Haze,
Head to Rao Seat Covers in Shivaji Nagar.
It is a small shop; but their work comes highly recommended. They are generally not very pricey. However, I am not too sure about their prices for adding a split seat. Google maps will help you in locating them.
Regards,
hbR

Thanks.

Helmet customization in Bangalore?
I am planning to get an LS2 FF386 which comes in plain and bleak colors here in India. But I am looking for someone who can do a custom paint job on it. Vinyl wraps would be bad I think on the helmets hence I am looking in search of paint job.
Please let me know someone who can customize the helmets and if you have done some please post a small review along with the transformation picture of the helmet.

Renting a bike?
Hey guys,
I was interested in renting out bikes, just as to ride different vehicles and get a feel of them. However, I am 18, and most rentals I have found are only for people above 21. Is there any rentals in Bangalore that would rent out a vehicle to an 18 year old?
PS What if my friend(above 21) were to rent it out instead and I were to try it out? Would there be a problem with that? I know I'm a responsible rider, and wouldn't have any issues, but I wouldn't want to cause any issues (any legal ramifications, or such).
I've been dying to try the Benelli 600i, which seems to be a perfect bike for a person new to super biking, having milder acceleration in the lower rpm range, and a lower kerb weight too for a 600 (and also is an inline 4)
