The roads are awesome and the place beautiful. All parks exist only to fleece you and is not worth, except for the slides :P Yummy ghee masala dosa at Saravana bhavan that melts in your mouth is not to be missed

Came down from the other side which connects to Salem Thiruputtur road and the narrow winding road through forest that is only wide enough for a car was awessome. Waiting for monsoon

Awesome pics man!

Good quiet place in the evening .

if you love the twisties(27 of them ) just turn the ignition off and hug the twisties at 50ks
jeevan.life but it becomes really warm in the afternoon, how did you beat the heat?

There's nothing much you could do to beat the heat . It is slightly better on the move, but even the wind was hot yesterday.

I hope you were only joking here. Switching the ignition off is certainly one of the worst things a rider can do to invite trouble in the hills.

Members who all are joining for ISG2G MH-GUJ-KAR will like to know from you all are you all ok for Amboli as ye final destination.
Because frankly speaking we as spocs an other state people don't want to take risk with long distance riding including 6 lane highways and time taking twisties.
So we are thinking to finalise Amboli as destination instead of Shrivardhan.
Do reply soon as we want to close this ASAP do that we can go ahead with accommodation bookings and all

well, I personally feel that the a ride as long as 18 hours with a group more than 10 members is going to be a hectic one and there might be situations where some of the riders might not be comfortable and we might end up going for break-journey. In that perspective, Amboli as a destination is a great one and since it is nearly 600 Kms, we can cover in a day (considering we start from Bangalore as early as 3am and reach Amboli well before sunset), taking into account enough stops for breakfast, lunch, tea/refreshment breaks. My vote goes out for Amboli, request other folks here who have confirmed their participation for ISG2G to kindly put their suggestions on the table.

This is the 1st pre-ride event for the ISG2G. We would like to know the riding style of each and every one of us as a group. As you know we are going to MH for the ISG2G so this is an important first step in making sure we have a safe and hastle free group ride. We would hence start with a breakfast ride to Kamath, Tumkur road. Please find the details below:

Ride Date: 30th March, 2014
Ride Start Time: 05:00 AM
Ride Meet-up Place: Central Silk Board Junction, BTM
Ride Destination: Kamath Upachar, Tumkur Highway
Ride Route Map:

Mandatory things: All necessary Docs like DL, RC Card, Insurance papers and Emission Control Card.
Basic Riding gears including Helmet, Armoured Jacket, Gloves, Knee guards and Elbow Guards. Same applicable for pillions also.

A word of utmost caution/importance: Please be on time.
Also please Fill up the tank a day before, before going to sleep.
Those who have ridden with us earlier are strictly instructed to be in compete riding gears, else you will be asked to continue your own ride. People joining for the first time and are not having proper riding gear they are advised to have proper helmet, a thick jacket, proper denim jeans, shoes.
NO RASH RIDING WILL BE INCULCATED AND EVERYONE HAS TO FOLLOW THE GROUP RIDING ETIQUETTES.

Also, kindly note that during this ride, we would try to know the style of each and every rider. This is the first step of our group ride to ISG2G hence this ride should be open to discussions/suggestions to make the group ride more efficient.

Turning off the ignition in the downward slope doesnt turn off your braking system, like the four wheeler, does it

And morever you could compensate for the fuel burn of the upward hill.

Let me know if its dangerous in any other aspect?

2 reasons:
1. using the brake alone will over heat them and their effectiveness will reduce when required.
2. Will not be able to do engine braking to control speed downhill.

There is a reason why you see boards written to descend down slopes in 2nd and 3rd gears(or may be even in first on very steep roads).

I too second with your point... went downslope in horsley hills in neutral and found it a wrong decision after i came to a neck to neck situation. going down the slope in 2nd or 3rd gear proved effective to me when i am taking deep slopes and curvatures.. learnt the lesson from the mistake practically and practicing without fail now....

Braking system alone doesn't guarantee you safety in the hills. Engine braking + brakes is the formula!
And please don't save fuel by coasting downhill in neutral/key off position. Walk instead.

Assume you're on roller skates on a downward slope full of hazards and vehicles. What guarantee you have that you'll reach the bottom of the slope?
