Hi guys i am from Mumbai and i have done some normal performance mod in my feb 2008 220 Fi..
1. NGK Irridium spark plugs. 2. 3 core spark plug wire 3. K&N air Filter (directly fit by cutting the airfilter box) the above mods i've done some 5k kms(the bike has just touch 30k kms on odo)and for last couple of months bike is facing problem of pic up, woblling and i also feel the engine is not giving enough power and it will breath out soon.. so i took my bike to local mechanic he ride the bike and told me that the bikes cluch plates are worn out and need to be change he also told me that there is some problem in front forks.. so my concern is, should i go back to normal airfilter? Will K&N give problem to the engine in future...and do i need to service the bike only at Pro Biking Service center cos my past experience with these guys is not that pleasant...or should i stick with the normal mechanic cos he told me there is not much of difference in servicing FI and carb, and for tuning FI he can take it to Service center as he has some of his mechanic friends who can help him out.. Please help me your valuable feedback would be helpful for me.. Thanks.. |

What is the mileage you are getting. When was the last time you changed the clutch plates? If you are getting mileage of anything around 35, you do not have a clutch plate problem. When was the last time you changed your Fuel filter? If you have not changed it recently, get it changed. It should be changed every 5k kms (mandatory) for the same experience. It costs 45rs only. For anything normal excluding the problems from Engine area i.e. area underneath the tank, like brake pads shocks forks etc. you can visit a local mechanic. Mine too had the same problem and wouldn't go beyond a definite speed and seemed the engine had low power. Local mechanics said, clutch issue. I just got the fuel filter changed after 42,619kms! It was full of black mud. And lo there was a drastic improvement in performance. It can now basically redline on any given gear, yes even the 5th! It mustered a speed of 147kmph at 9.8k RPM on 5th gear yesterday before I said enough and left twisting the throttle. The acceleration, response and top speed has increased hugely, compared to previous best on P220-Fi of 110kmph only!

One serious advice. Never take Fi bike to some local mechanic. Fi units are not some kid stuff. If you screw it, it will be very hard to get it repaired.
As Utsav mentioned, check the fuel filter, throttle body checked. I sometime feel quite pity for kids like you. You will take the bike to some local mechanic & then blame the manufacturer for it. I have never ever taken to local mechanic except for puncture & other stuff.

I would strongly recommend sticking with the service centre... If you go to the Phoenix mills service centre I could recommend you my mechanic...

Hi Guys,
I just bought P220 DTS-Fi last week, feeling very proud. I wanted to ask about running-in period. I have done around 150 km till now, keeping speeds around 40 KMPH (4th gear/3K RPM) & 50 KMPH (5th gear/3K RPM). What I am trying to do, is not take it above 3-3.5K RPM. The manual says not to exceed beyond certain speed limits on certain gear. The mechanic at delivery said not to go beyond 40 KMPH for first 1000 kms. So, which is the best technique to adopt for running in periods? Is there any other precaution which I need to take? I am pretty novice with bike technical details yet. Thanks. |

Are you sure that it is a Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi ? Coz I think the production of this beautiful machine stopped, and were only made available on special requests until 2010. I think you got a 220DTSi. Few pics of the bike would be very good though. Refrain from speeding in the first 1800kms. till 1000kms stay below 55kmph. till 1800kms stay below 70kmph. Change engine oil strictly as per the manual.
