Dropping of to get the 1st service done this evening.
Always check reserve to reserve and take it on a early morning ride to know if it returns same 37kmpl. Who knows, it might get better.

    • Yup, I measured it reserve to reserve wonly.

I wouldn't complain if it gets better

      • Finally got a compression check done today. It is 120 on a cold engine.

According to the mech, there is no problem in 2T oil pump. Whatever, I will continue to mix 30ml/litre until I see oil tank getting over max by 1400kms. Getting a brand new pump in the meanwhile.

Next steps are 1) Getting the clutch bell replaced 2) Getting RDD CDI. Point 2 will be done first.

        • Did you disconnect the rubber hose that connects the carb with air filter? Compression test has to be on a warm motor

how much for a new clutch bell+primary

also 120psi is low for a newly rebuilt engine

            • new clutch bell+primary costed me ~3500. yeah, 120 is tad low but then currently consoling myself saying it is cold reading and no carbon deposit. Will take a reading again during next service.

Nope, I am going to use both in tandem. Anyways, there is hardly any oil going via pump. Let me monitor for next couple of weeks. If the oil level is going down to my satisfaction, then I will stop using pre-mix. Oil flow rate has been increased now. I know mixture getting lean, etc but need to get convinced fully on the pump.

Yeah, I know compression needs to be done on warm engine. But these garage fellows didn't do it inspite of telling them. When I went to take delivery, I asked them and that is when they started searching for the guage Should result in ~10-15psi is what I guess.

                • Sorry for the confusion Nitin what I meant was before you do a compression test you have to disconnect that rubber hose and while you're at it the throttle has to be wide open to get a correct reading I was in the lab so couldn't post clearly :|

                  • What is the rationale behind disconnecting that rubber hose on the air filter side

                    • what he meant was that compression test must be conducted with the air filter removed and WOT, by disconnecting the hose you are in effect removing the air filter, ideally you should get 140-150psi , btw howmany times did they kick over the engine before taking the reading

                      • With air filter on, air flow is somewhat 'restricted' and hence it could result in lower reading-is this the principle behind this?

He kicked it 3-4times with WOT.

Text book 'ideal' compression would be 9.9 bars (compression ratio as per manual) which in psi=9.9*13.7=136.63. 1bar=13.7psi. Atleast this is the reply I got from Mr.Dilip Bam couple of years back when I had enquired about my 100's compression.

What would be the effect of Bangalore's elevation of 3018ft on this calculation?

1 bar is approximately 14.5 psi and not 13.7 so your compression should be about 143psi
and yes the air filter adds resistance to the air flow

                          • Oops! Yup, it is 14.7, I stand corrected.

When I go for next service will take care to do this on warm engine and w/o air filter.

                            • 2000kms almost up on the ODO. Touched 100kmph for the first time yesterday while returning from office (Adugodi-Suraksha Workshop). 1st service was done @1300kms. Gear shifts are much smooth now. Smokes like an autorickshaw maybe because I added 300ml Motul 510 to 8 Litres along with Autolube which has been calibarated to pump more oil. Once I see the 2T oil tank emptying at good pace I will stop pre-mixing.

Another major update is that, FINALLY all formalities w.r.t to getting new registration number is completed. I blocked a number today. I will get the new smart card by next week. A major action item closed and its a big relief for me

Bought RDD CDI few weeks back. My hectic schedule hasn't allowed me to get it installed. Most probably I will get it installed next Saturday.

Bought a brand new (Pricol) 2T oil pump also. I will monitor the 2T oil tank closely for next few weeks and based on what I see, will replace the pump.

                              Following are the pending jobs:-
                              • Install brand new clutch bell
                              • Install RDD CDI
                              • Install (if need be) brand new 2T oil pump
