  • Thanks for the pointers Ram & Sriram Would lack of lubrication on the gear shifter rod also cause this issue? There wasn't ANY grease on the gear shifter rod.

Yes, lack of adequate lubrication will definitely cause shifting issues provided if all is well from all the directions, right from proper clutch setting to right amount of ply in the shifting system. Also, I've taken an Rx with no gear box oil with just the remains of old oil left & it gave me no problems, although it's not normal but it will give no troubles until you decide on running the same way it is and end up in a crank seize.

Apart from that, gear shifts are very notchy. It was smooth for first 6-7 kms but later it took me lot of effort for downshifting, especially from 2nd to 1st. Any pointers what could be the issue? I am intrigued coz, 1st 6-7kms of the commute it was fine

Didn't exceed 40kmph/1/4 throttle. Seems like this one has better ride quality than the 100. Doesn't bounce around.
your transmission oil is heating up after 6-7kms ride causing it not to shift. change to better gearbox oil.

        • You confirmed my doubt

Any suggestions for good gearbox oil?

          • ^To start with either you can try Motul mineral oil or Yamalube gearbox oil available with YASS. Then you can slowly shift depends on your preference.

            • Sriram was right. It was a clutch adjustment issue. Dad adjusted the play and now the gear shifts are super smooth.

I got another headache now though. When the bike is idling there is lot of bore noise which disappears when I pull back the clutch lever Its like clutch lever operates as the silent mode button for this engine.

Once I complete 500 kms I'll change the oil and fill Yamalube.

              • like you say the noise goes away when the clutch is engaged my guess is the noise is not coming from the bore. Rather it's the clutch

try mobil1 delvac 15w40 it is non energy conserving oil which means you won't have any clutch slip and it works better than any gb oil I've used till date.

Thanks for the update on your issue and it is now resolved (Please click the 'like' button). With regards to the bore noise or rather the noise disappears I would flywheel and clutch assembly if they were intact.

Not seen the Video as office Fire wall blocks it. If pulling up the clutch lever mutes the sound, then you need to reset the clutch basket!

Yup. Just spoke to a good friend. He also confirmed the same.

15w40 Are you sure? Recommended is 20w40. Is 15 thinner or thicker than 20? No matter how many times I read Sandeep's thread, I don't get it right :-(

Seriously, xbhp should introduce this functionality. Thanks man. I suspected oil since it was fine for 1st 6-7kms. Dad was also convinced it was clutch play setting issue. Regarding that noise, yup, clutch could be the issue since the technician himself has dropped enough hints on less than perfect work done on clutch bell.

+1. I had updated earlier in the thread that clutch bell was 'worked upon'. I think most probably this would be the issue. Any adverse impact if I choose to ignore it? Not too keen on another 'clutch bell job'. I rather spend sometime learning how to source a bell with matching primary and actually source it.

The impact is pretty serious, you'll be tossed out to get a new Clutch bell set, rubbers etc...!

                            • What would the impact be?

More than sourcing the bell, it is sourcing the matching set of bell+primary that is a headache. Yup, clutch bell rubbers too. But a repair job on clutch bell, I am not too keen.

As of now the bike is grounded at home. Used by 100 today.

                              • Rode her again today to office. After my dad adjusted clutch day before gear shifts are smooth enough. This is an excellent city tool. Thank you all for diagonsis and support

Its done about 180 kms so far. Took it upto 60kmph in 4th gear today. The way she pulls from 40 to 60 is so clean, quick and without no drama Between 40 to 60kmph, I overtook almost everything this evening while returning home on Assaye Road. No downshifting, no revving (not used more than 1/4 throttle) almost like a powerful automatic scooter. I swear, 40kmph never felt this good!

It is stable in the straight line and easily flickable when need be. Add to this its amazing low-end torque, it is just the perfect tool for slicing through Bengaluru's CBD.

I am doing something for sourcing clutch bell and matching primary Once it is installed the irritating sound hopefully goes away.
