      • Well, more pain this morning. The chain 'link lock' got cut on my way to office this morning. Fortunately, this happened close to Adugodi CBZ. Got it repaired since he didn't have new lock.

Just wondering, how can this happen with a new chain set This has done around 315kms so far thats all.

This can happen due to two things Nitin:

Either the chain was too tight on the sprockets or
The chain was too Loose (Which you would've easily gauged).

Anyways, good to know that both are safe...!

          • Yup, I could hear some chain noise yesterday, like how it sounds when loose. Didn't bother too much. On my 100, I've ridden with a loose chain for quire sometime.

Didn't expect it to come-off like that the very next day Yup, I was lucky, since I was riding in peak hour traffic, also since it is in running in I was riding in the leftmost lane so as to not to block traffic behind me.

Please not that this happens MOSTLY when the chain lock has been fixed in the wrong way ....

What this means is that the open end of the lock should be AWAY from the direction of motion of the chain ..

There are many ramifications of a loose chain:

              - The chain cover is damaged by the chain grazing it
              - A bad chain with ruin the sprockets and vice-versa
              - A broken chain can lock the wheel at high speed and cause accidents
              - It can damage the Layshaft milling or the bearings (happened with my YBX)
              - Will damage the rear wheel bearings due to inconsistent loading

Please change the chain - sprocket kit at the earliest.

Chain sprocket is brand new. Probably like you said the lock was installed improperly. Got the lock alone changed, last evening on my way home from office. Chain was adjusted last morning itself.

Would you still advise me to replace chain sprocket? That would be another Rs.650 :-(

Sorry if I did not word that correctly ... I was thinking of a worn out chain / sprocket .
what u did is right ... getting a loose chain tightened on time is the best way to maintain chain sprocket safety ..

Hope you got a matching primary for that.

The most common mistake while installing a chain is putting the lock the wrong way. The closed end should be installed in the direction on the chain movement. 99% its the cause of a chain break.

Yup. The dealer says he has a list of production batch codes with which he can match the bell with primary. Is there any visual way of validating this?
Hoping this installation is hassle free.

Now it gets me thinking. I probably should check how it was installed for the second time too. Thank You for that info Nitesh & Alok
