When u hit reserve, reset the trip meter immediately regardless of how long u take to go to the petrol bunk. this means, whatever fuel is used from the reserve, it gets replaced by the fresh fuel. check the meter till the fuel hits reserve again. make sure u fill in more qty of fuel, like 5-8 lts, so u get better average. do this a few times, and the mileage u get would be pretty accurate.

I have tried this over the years and this has been the most accurate of all methods so far, apart from the scientific one. i usually fill in about Rs.400 at a time and the bike gives me about 55kmpl easily.

Question Accurate Mileage Calculating method

Hi All,

How do you calculate the mileage of your bike.. Yes it is the ratio of Distanc travelled by Fuel consumed, but here are my questions :

- Do u calculate mileage as and when u reach Reserve tank capacity ?

or

- Do you calculate mileage by having the tank full and topping it up after each ride ?

Which method would give the most accurate mileage calculation ? Or is there a third better option ? What are the cons of the other method in this case ?

Say if i take the first option, i would suffer from more Fuel evaporation compared to option two.. Give your opinions!!!

I can't use the reserve method coz my uni doesn't use up all the fuel in reserve, it leaves roughly half litre fuel in the tank the reserve capacity is 1.3l so not exactly how much it can actually use out of that.

You need not use up all the fuel in reserve.
Reset the tripmeter when u reach reserve, then fill some amount of petrol, ride till it comes to reserve again. Note the trip meter reading and divide it by the amount of petrol u had filled, thats your mileage in kmpl.
The accuracy will be more if the amount of fuel u filled is more.
