  • Calculating mileage of your bike?

I dont want to connect a 250ml bottle to the fuel line and run to calculate mileage.
Is there any other easy ways ,guys you have tried?

    1.Reserve to reserve.
2.start the bike with fuel supply closed and ride until it stops.(still cannot resolve it!) .

    kindly flow your thoughts

Reserve to reserve works pretty well. You can tell the mileage on the weekdays during city riding, and weekends for those highway rides...I use the same to know how my CBZ's mileage and it keeps flicking between 37-42 kmpl.

One more way calculate is Full to Full Tank.

I follow the reserve to reserve method. Most convenient.

I think this is the best method.and it will show you the exact mileage and you will find same mileage in different time span on same sort of running.

I think full tank run for mileage check wont be precise .
so reserve to reserve seems the way.
If we know how many ml the fuel lock holds when closed ,it is the easiest way to find the mileage by running it.and fastest too

But it shows more or less a constant mileage to me.

The carb-full check is very inaccurate as it doesn't take into account much variations in ride conditions..
It'll be a 1 km check as it'll involve approximately 200ml of petrol..

The full tank method is accurate, but you'll have to run the bike dry to know the exact fuel average that the bike is giving.. Else there will be approximations messing up the accuracy..
Hence, its certainly not advisable unless one has a penchant for long walks with the bike in tow

The reserve to reserve method is known to be fairly accurate and also straddles the line between accuracy and ease of use perfectly...

I've just tried Reserve to Reserve, least headache and does the job quick. I just fill in fuel worth Rs. 100 every time I hit reserve and wait till I again hit reserve.. It is 100kms on an average for my Uni, which is Rs.1/ km excluding servicing, depreciation, etc..

This way, I can always keep a check on mileage on the go, and have updates every 2-3 days.

ok...another method is...fill ur bike fuel tank to the full and note the kms....then run ur bike...say around 150km...no fill the bike again to full...and note the ltrs of petrol that is being filled...

now lets say thet day 1 u refuled the bike to the full....

                      day1-4...150 kms done....

day 4...go to a fuel station and refule ur bike to the full....

suppose 5 ltrs petrol was filled...so it means that the bike consumed 5 ltrs in running 150kms...avg=30kmpl....

do not know about the cons of this method...please let me know if any

when u fill up the tank to its full capacity then the levels can vary slightly, and it can vary as much as 250-500 ml , but it gives you a rough idea of the mileage.... which is good enuf .

I don't have a reserve knob in my bike so Full Tank to Full tank is the only way for me

@Niks: agree with your point too

Yup , if you have a fuel knob then use the reserve to reserve , else a full tank to full method.

Mileage is more of an indicator to know if bike is running fine or not (assuming the fuel station you visit does minimum adulteration).

It can also help you analyse which riding style gives you a good mileage.
