You need not use up all the fuel in reserve.
Reset the tripmeter when u reach reserve, then fill some amount of petrol, ride till it comes to reserve again. Note the trip meter reading and divide it by the amount of petrol u had filled, thats your mileage in kmpl.
The accuracy will be more if the amount of fuel u filled is more.

Help needed in making a DIY fuel economy measuring fuel bottle

Had to check the fuel economy of my motorcycle. So hooked up a 500ml coke can with a 10mm clear PU pipe to the carb, by passing the tank-carb fuel line.

Was just wondering whether I require to control the flow-rate of the fuel. In this set-up the fuel from the bottle flows unrestricted to the carb. Attached is a sketch to give an idea.

I am not sure whether the fuel from the tank flows likewise. Was lazy to measure the flow rate from the fuel tank.

For a correct reading, do I need to match the flow rate of my set up to that of the tank?

Re: Calculating mileage of your bike?

I recently bought a Pulsar NS200 , and the bike has been giving me a grief on mileage terms . In the beginning I use to get 13 -15 KMPL .after tinkering by Bajaj SVC problem wasn't solved , then visited a different Bajaj centre and asked them to replace the air filter , now I am getting 25 -30 KMPL.
But the thing is bajaj SVC always told me that reserve to reserve check of 1 liters is not accurate , instead I should fill the petrol to top and run it till dry or use 3 liters for reserve to reserve check .
