Thanks for the reply. Will try this method.

Till now I used to check the mileage by riding till the tank would become empty and then filling it(I used to keep a 1.5 liter bottle filled with Rs60 of petrol with me)and would run it till the tank again becomes empty. But the problem with this method is that when I put petrol from the bottle, then some of it would spill over. So approximately 1 liter went into my bike and I found out the mileage to be between 65-90kmpl(This variation in mileage is because of the different riding styles).

Hey guys I got a RTR Refresh, I wanted to check my mileage so I wanted to know the proper method of checking it in the 'reserve to reserve' method, say I ride around and my bike hits reserve, the closest petrol bunk is like a few kms away, so I reset my trip meter when I switch to reserve and reach the bunk, trip showing 6kms.I fill up, say 50 rs fuel which gives me 1.20l, I reset the other trip meter and ride around till it hits reerve again, it shows 44kms.This means my bike has gone for 44+6=50 kms on 1.20l of fuel. But my question here is, what about the fuel which is n the carb already?I mean since I rode the bike in reserve before filling fuel, there would be some fuel from the reserve left in the carb after filling up and switching the knob back to 'on' right? It is around 3-4 kms according to my experience so should i factor these 3-4 kms into my overall figure (50kms) to attain the exact mileage or am I wrong?

For calculating the exact consumption, you can refer to an excellent article by Dilip Bam.

Well, I ride a Bajaj Platina. I get 90kmpl if I ride it at <= 30kmph and I get 50-60kmpl on the highways when I ride at full throttle.

Fill tank till just below brim , ride 100-200 kms . now again fill petrol till the brim . see the amount of petrol quantity on petrol machine . Divide the no. of Kms you covered by the fuel quantity .

full tank method..fill ur tank upto the brim then ride for a few kms say 100kms now fill fuel again upto the brim, now 100kms divided by fuel required to fill the tank upto brim..

When u hit reserve, reset the trip meter immediately regardless of how long u take to go to the petrol bunk. this means, whatever fuel is used from the reserve, it gets replaced by the fresh fuel. check the meter till the fuel hits reserve again. make sure u fill in more qty of fuel, like 5-8 lts, so u get better average. do this a few times, and the mileage u get would be pretty accurate.

I have tried this over the years and this has been the most accurate of all methods so far, apart from the scientific one. i usually fill in about Rs.400 at a time and the bike gives me about 55kmpl easily.

The Exact average could not be calculated, However to calculate approx Mileage,

Get your Bike Tanked Up (P.S: Note the Amount of fuel you got it in) and then just start riding then see how many kilometer's you have covered when it finishes, then divide it by the amount of fuel you filled at the starting.. you get it..

                                Like

I fill up the tank by 10 litres: that means by the price of 42.00 INR
                                i get 10.71 litres ..
So at the end of one week i travel : if i travel 471 kms i get a Mileage of 43.97kmpl
                                worked out as:

Total Distance Covered / The amount of Fuel filled = Mileage

                                471 / 10.71 = 43.97kmpl
