MaxWrist : The Next GhostRider?

Disclaimer : xBhp promotes safe riding which included ATGATT – All the Gear All The Time. Do not try to imitate what you see here, definitely not on public roads, not only it is against the law, it is extremely dangerous for others on the road. Even on private tracks you should know your limits and take the required learning curve.

All of us have grown up watching some sort of motorcycling idol or the other. Be it a public figure like Valentino Rossi or the anonymous ‘GhostRider’ that literally annihilated the highways of Europe especially Sweden in his sinister trademark all black attire and bikes, usually Suzukis.

If you were not into the crazy underground world of he GhosrRider in mid 2000s here is your starter :

And here is his TurboBusa:

Now let me tell you this was in the era when there was no social media and YouTube was just gaining traction and there were no GoPros. Perhaps thats also what contributed to making of the legend.  Just the right amount of information was shared spaced with just the right amount of silence.

Fast forward today and you have an incredible amount of information overload with instant sharing of events, photos and videos. Today is the age of drones, GoPros and Facebook. An age where YouTube has taken over the traditional television as the preferred and proven medium of turning people into superstars, not only in their country – but around the world. Overnight. Without paying a single rupee to any blood sucking conglomerate to air your content.

You can get noticed, but can you become a legend?

Enter : MaxWrist.

First have a look at one his videos:

We found this motorcyclist in a corner of internet, capturing the attention and imagination of thousands of people on the internet. Some of them clearly against what he does, some of them in awe, some of them wishing they could ride the way he does and some discarding him as an attention hungry guy who knows a little bit about riding and video editing.

But let me tell you – it is hard to ignore him. So when I contacted him he was eager to get featured with xBhp. And here is what we asked him.

xBhp: Would you like to tell us your real name or at least something about you which is a real we appreciate if you want to keep it a secret.

MaxWrist: I obviously need to keep my name anonymous. A lot of people have already guessed it though from my old Instagram account even though I have never said that I was MaxWrist on that account. Many people say they just know because of the unique riding style.

xBhp: Why the name MaxWrist, what does it signify?

MaxWrist: I got into some trouble at work with my old account so I had to make a new one. MaxWrist does have a meaning. Max = Maximum / Wrist = Turning the throttle back with the wrist. The way I love to ride; maximum throttle, maximum speed, MaxWrist!

xBhp: Did you design the MaxWrist animation yourself and do you edit videos yourself?

MaxWrist: One day a while back I got a DM on Instagram from a guy who said he wanted to do an edit on one of videos, I didn’t take him very seriously and never sent him a video. He wrote me back again awhile later and asked me again, so I sent him a video. He sent it back to me and I was blown away by how good the edit was. We’ve been working together ever since. He does all the animations and YouTube edits.

xBhp: Why do you do this?

MaxWrist: I just love to ride. I don’t ride the way I do just to make videos. I love to ride fast and I just happen to record video while I ride. If cars or other motorcycle are in my way, I pass them. If I see a super car I just want to see what they’ve got under the hood, so I turn around a see if they want to race. I’m a competitive guy.

1

xBhp: We cannot help but bring the ‘GhostRider’ into the picture. Were you inspired by him and his legend? Do you see him as a person to be ‘dethroned’ as the king of everything fast and ‘illegal’ on two wheels on public roads?

MaxWrist: To be perfectly honest, I never saw a GhostRider video before I started riding. I had heard of him, but never saw a video. I didn’t watch any of his videos until people started comparing me to him. He made some cool videos though. He is definitely not my motivation though. I just like to ride fast, I don’t compare myself to him at all. I find it hard to imagine that anybody will get away for the things he did for as long as he did in this day of age though.

xBhp: It is a tough question but here goes: Have you thought what you do is very dangerous and it could potentially kill you, if you are lucky, god forbid, it can also paralyze you for life.

MaxWrist: The way I ride is definitely dangerous, but we only live once, might as well live it to the MAX! Better to die doing something I love rather than from something I didn’t.

xBhp: Why have you chosen BMW S1000RR as the weapon of choice? It is just because you had the bike and then the idea of MaxWrist hit you or it was a planned acquisition.

MaxWrist: I bought the BMW S1000RR because it’s the fastest motorcycle, no other reason. I transitioned to the MaxWrist name at the same time I got the S1K because I was trying to start new anonymous account so people wouldn’t know who I was.

xBhp: Are you sponsored by BMW or any company? I guess not because companies usually do not support such high level of risk driven activities which are not exactly by the law. Even if you would go for a sponsorship, you would need to disclose your identity to them, and thats a problem, right!

MaxWrist: No, I’m not sponsored by any companies. I am interested in performance parts and video equipment though. Even though the way I ride might not be so orthodox, I would be a great promoter because of my large following and photo/video quality capabilities I have. Anyone interested in me testing or promoting products should contact me at [email protected]

xBhp: Do you have any other bikes?

MaxWrist: Yes, I have three bikes total. My first bike – 2012 Honda CBR1000RR. Second bike I bought was a Harley Davidson Night Rod Special. I bought the BMW S1000R in September 2015. I loved the Honda Fireblade, but the BMW is just so much better in every way so that’s all I ride now.

xBhp: Some are guessing you do it in Italy, some say its France. Can you tell us the location or do we try to guess it from one of your videos?

MaxWrist: All the police here know who I am, so it’s not a secret. I live in Italy now. I’m not Italian though, I’m American. I will move back to the United States sometime in the near future.

2

xBhp: Do you think it will be prudent and better to write a disclaimer at the start of each video you do which requests riders, especially impressionable young people not ride like this and obey the law? Maybe you can use your skills and what you do to show them what ‘not to do’?

MaxWrist: I don’t think that people can just buy a motorcycle and then go out and ride like me. I’m obviously pretty fearless but it took me a few years to start riding the way I do now. But I can’t be responsible for someone who does something they saw on the internet, that is a personal issue for them.

xBhp: Have you ever met a better rider on the road which you couldn’t cope up with? Who made you bite the dust? There must be such occasions right, especially in the corners?

MaxWrist: When I first started riding in America in 2012, yes. Since 2015 though and especially since I bought the BMW, no. I ride the same mountain road quite often and there are a lot of track riders that ride it too, none of them have passed me, No one has been able to keep up with me lately.

xBhp: Imagine you are riding the way you do and one day you find this extremely talented rider who beats the crap out of you and teaches you a thing or two on the road? He then stops ahead and you stop too. When he takes off his helmet you see it is Valentino Rossi himself? What would you say to him?

MaxWrist: I hope that day comes, I thrive on competition. I look forward to the day that I can ride with someone that I can’t keep up with, it will only make me faster. MotoGP riders wouldn’t have their MotoGP bike on the road, so I doubt anybody will be beating the crap out of me on the street anytime soon. I challenge anyone who want to race me in streets to go ahead and contact me though. We’ll make a video.

xBhp: Who is your idol and why? Mine is Valentino Rossi.

MaxWrist: Don’t really have one. Marc Marquez is my favorite MotoGP rider, he goes hard. Much harder than Rossi in my opinion.

xBhp: Which bike do you think are the best for a) Racing b) Cross country touring c)Cruiser d)Street

MaxWrist: Street racing would definitely be the BMW S1000RR, that’s why I bought it. I don’t really know enough about the other areas to comment.

xBhp: We have seen that you do not involve a third person to shoot your videos. Most of it is GoPro. We assume thats because you want it to be a one man show. How do you think it would have been if GoPros were not there?

MaxWrist: It’s not that I want to be a one man team, I just don’t have a team. Anyone that would like to come film me is more than welcome though. If I couldn’t take videos, I’d still be riding the way I do, there just wouldn’t be any videos.

xBhp: Which would be the dream place in the world for you to ride like this?

MaxWrist: Tail of the Dragon US129 is my absolute favorite place to ride. Super curvy, great road conditions, and an awesome biker scene there. The mountain roads in the Appalachian mountains of the United States are in such better condition that the roads I’ve been on here in the European Alps. Wider, less potholes, warmer. I look forward to going back to the USA to ride.

xBhp: Do you plan to do a highway/motorway run and do something like what GhostRider did in the ‘Uppsala Run?’ We know twisties are more challenging but highways are more straighten speed (but ahem, of course the context of what we are taking about is both dangerous and illegal, we reiterate for our readers).

MaxWrist: I just watched the video for the first time, pretty amazing. There are way too many road cameras to do something like that here in Italy. I’d do something like that if I knew I could get away with it. Maybe a future YouTube project to consider.

xBhp: Does the word ‘illegal’ and ‘law’ mean anything to you? Are you not afraid of getting caught? We know you may be, but you may not want to give out your ‘backup plan’ to us, we reckon!

MaxWrist: I’m not the only person speeding on the internet. I may be one of the more popular ones, but there are thousands of people posting fast riding videos. If I get in trouble, the Max Wrist account will still be posting videos. I’m not the only person with access to the account and there are enough videos recorded to post for years.

xBhp: Do you do track days? Have you considered racing, or do you think thats more technical and competitive than what you do? (No offence).

MaxWrist: I’ve never done a track day yet. I plan on doing my first track day this year. I’ve only been riding since 2012. I don’t think what they do is more technical, they just have a controlled environment and faster bikes. I beat up on track day riders in the streets though where the playing field is leveled because of similar performance of the bikes. I will be posting my first track day when it happens though, we’ll see how I do, stay tuned.

4

xBhp: We really wish you are one of the MotoGP or WSBK Racers, tell us we are right! We will just start guessing you know!

MaxWrist: Definitely not. I’ve only been riding since May of 2012 when I bought my first bike, The Honda Fireblade.

xBhp: We can only imagine what must be your favourite video game, I dont think you play one when you are actually recreating them in the real world!

MaxWrist: I don’t play video games. YouTube is like a video game for me. It’s a strategy game if you want to be very successful at it. screenshot5

xBhp: What next? Where will all this lead to? You need to have a graph that goes up right? People always want to see something new all the time, do you have a plan that we should look forward to?

MaxWrist: Better videos and hopefully some collaborations riding and racing some other popular riders on YouTube. I bought a gyro camera and a drone, so look out for those videos coming in the near future.

screenshot2

xBhp: We hear rumours that GhostRider died and someone else took over his place. Do you have such a long drawn plan? Is MAxWrist just an experiment ?

MaxWrist: I already have enough videos to last for years if something was to happen to me. MaxWrist videos will be posted for the foreseeable future. 2016 is going to be awesome year for MaxWrist though. I plan on riding Nurburgring track in Germany, some tracks in Italy, racing some other YouTube fast guys, hunting more super cars, drone footage, etc. I will ride until the day I die though and I only know one speed, as fast as I can go.

 3

xBhp : Have you visited india before ? The second question is if you have ever ridden in india before ! Regardless of what you answer, we believe that riding India taps into a lot of things for an individual – his luck, skill, reflexes et al. It’s a bit like riding Isle of Man TT, except on roads where anything can pop up anytime. What impressions do you have about India as a ‘westerner’?

MaxWrist: No, I’ve never been to India before. I didn’t know there was much of a riding scene in India, I don’t see many posts from there. The only posts I ever see are intersections with no traffic lights, so everybody is going into the intersection at the same time, it looks crazy. So my impression of India is that it’s too crowed. I’m sure there a few great places to ride though, so I’d love to visit sometime in the future.

xBhp: Have you got into any accidents yet? If yes, would like to share some details and how severe they were.

MaxWrist: I’ve got into 5 accidents total, all on he Honda Fireblade. It was my first bike and learning bike, so I went through a few learning curves in the process. I’m a lucky guy though because I’ve never got a scratch or even a bruise from crashing. I’ve paid a lot of money in bike repairs though. lol.

6

xBhp: You said the police know about you. Surely, they know what you do is dangerous and illegal. How do you circumvent that ? I am also aware of a situation where cops allow you to do wheelies in Germany if you can prove to them you are in complete control, is there any truth to that ?

MaxWrist: Yes, they definitely know me in this area. I’ve had to start riding in other places. I don’t ride the infamous mountain road anymore that I always used to ride on.

I really don’t know anything about Germany. I do plan on doing some super car hunting and some high speed runs on the autobahn in 2016 though.

xBhp: Whats the longest distance you have done on a bike till now. From where to where?

MaxWrist: I rode from Fayetteville, North Carolina to Key West, Florida one time. 18 hour ride. I was falling asleep on the road by the end of the ride.

xBhp: Whats the fastest you have been on a bike? Do you consider making videos of you on the unrestricted parts of the autobahn?

MaxWrist: The speedometer only reads 186MPH / 299KMH, I do that every time I get on the highway and the conditions are right. I’ll need a GPS unit to see faster than what the speedometer displays. But I can tell you that the S1000RR does go faster than 299KMH. A future project of mine is getting the speedometer unlocked to read faster than 186MPH.

xBhp: Don’t you reckon it would be more fun and easier to ride the way you do on a bike like the KTM SuperDuke 1290? Isn’t a superbike a little bit more ‘technical’ for stuff like this on the road?

MaxWrist: I haven’t seen any naked street bike be able to keep up with me for a long

*****

You can see his YouTube channel here.

So here it is. Thats MaxWrist for you. Some people just do what they have to do, not matter how dangerous it is. It gives them the high. But at a cost that only they know. We hope that he does not ruin his or someone else’s life. But you need to agree – he does not know how to ride.

Psst, hey MaxWrist, in case you need a companion, here is a suitable match we found for you:
