OMEN by HP – The good Omen

HP, one of the most innovative companies, and also one of our favorite companies out there, is back again on board xBhp bandwagon, this time with their flagship gaming laptop – Omen.

Our relationship with goes back a long time when the first few iterations of xBhp.com back in the early 2000s were programmed on an HP laptop. Fast forward to 2017, we had our first real association with HP during one of our biggest rides ever, the #powerTrip360, when HP gave us their Spectre series of ultra slim, lightweight, and still extremely powerful laptops – a boon for something as challenging as this 20,000 kms bone-breaking ride on two of the world’s most powerful motorcycles.

And now, when we are preparing for yet another cross-country roadtrip in India on two Suzuki Hayabusas and two power cruisers from Indian Motorcycle, meeting and riding with many different motorcyclists and motorcycling groups, we again have HP with us with their Omen laptops.

Why Omen? Because these are one of the most powerful laptops in HP stable, which is what we need while on this roadtrip to edit the photos and most importantly videos on the go. So we need portability without losing on the processing power, and the Omens fit the bill perfectly.

And we will have two of these mean machines with us on the #roadTripUnited – The flagship 17 inch Omen 17- an009tx and the 15 inch Omen 15-ce072tx.

Let us talk about the big boy first. The Omen 17 looks is a big looking machine and it is quite heavy as well, weighing around 3.5 kg and with a big charger. But in red and black color scheme, it looks absolutely stunning and sharp, yet elegant. The backlit keyboard and brushed metal/carbon fiber finish at the lid takes the oomph factor to another level. It has got full HD display (optional 4K display) and the complementing Bang & Olufsen speakers are literally a bang for your buck.  The keys in the keyboard are well spaced out and have got a very reassuring travel as well.

Specs wise, it packs a punch. It has got Core i7 2.8 GHz processer, NVIDIA GeForce GTX Graphics card, 256 GB Solid State Drive + 1 TB Hard drive, and 16384 MB DDR4 SDRAM.  It also gets the Bang & Olufsen speakers as well. Currently it is retailing at INR 179,780.

The younger brother, Omen 5 has got pretty impressive numbers to show as well. It has got Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz processer, NVIDIA GeForce GTX Graphics Card, 128 GB solid state drive + 1 TB Hard drive, 16384 MB DDR4 SDRAM, and 15.6 inches Full HD display. And this one is priced at INR 112,290.

We’ve just got our hands on these machines and we are yet to load them with required software and games, though we doubt we’ll get time on the road to play games. But we’ll definitely be using them to some good use editing our videos and photos. And then we’ll be able to tell you the goods and the bads (hopefully none) about the HP Omen.
