    Thanks AI,

I think my bike has the threaded headset. Your input was well appreciated and I would also like to ask you another favour, if i may, as to if anyone would sell good suspension.

hey robin! glad that i could help you out. i'd need one info from you, whether your fork has a 1 inch steerer or 1-1/8th inch steerer. most imported forks come with 1-1/8th inch steerer, that too threadless. nobody uses threaded forks these days. so if you have a one inch steerer, you'll have to source it from some indian shop. they could help you with the installation too.

if you're serious about mountain biking, get some reputed brands, there are many available in india

trek, cannondale, bianchi, giant, GT, orbea, fireeye, firefox, et al
of course they cost a lot, but they're worth the money. take my word for it.

      happy ridin buddy!

hi krishna! yes i build bicycles ( bicycle frames to be more precise), cost would depend on the kind of bike you're looking for. i'm currently building an aluminum alloy freeride/downhill mountain bike frame. with lots of CNC machined and laser cut frame parts, needless to say, these things cost a lot ! and i when i say a lot, i mean a lot !!

so if you could tell me the kind of bike you're looking for, and also the kind of material you're interested in, it would be easy for me to tell you the cost of the frame.

for eg if you want to build a hardtail mountain bike frame, with steel, stainless steel, cro moly (i'm searching for the latter , not freely available in india) the cost would be a few thousand rupees, but at the same time if you want to build a dual suspension frame with the same material, the cost would go up a little more, at the same time if you want an aluminum alloy mountain bike frame, the cost is more cuz, working on aluminum is an altogether different ball game. hope you understand what i'm trying to tell you

so zero in on what you exactly want , and i'd be happy to work it out for you!

          thanx

            • Any update on where such cycles can be found in Mumbai ?
A very good and safe biker not only because he can pop up either of the wheels, scrape his knees on a corner or go fast and make it look stylish but because he very well knows his limits and capabilities and has the patience to learn about others and ride safe ! :)

for the kind of frame i'm making, each and every part of the frame would have some amount of CNC machining involved. also i'm planning to make some CNC'ed stems and brake levers.

CNC'ed stems and brake levers are definitely NICE! u can also do sprockets if the entire bike is involved. 6061 or 7075 sure be great!! steel or 4130 is unnecessary weight for these parts i think.
In frame making i think only dropouts and tapered headtubes makes sense. Notch the tubes and TIG weld'em.

Do u have any frame jig? and
Do u do ur own front suspension or do u buy'em.

6061 is a bit hard to get here, so i'm using 6082 for the frame, with a few small components using 6063. for the stem i'm planning to use either 2014, 2024 or 7075. for the sprockets i MIGHT laser cut it and later machine out the lateral tapers on a CNC lathe. lets see. but my first priority would be completing the frame. and about using 4130 for the machined parts is out of the question !! ha ha, i dont want my frame to weigh the same as a battleship !! lol
and yes, i wont be MIGging it, its gonna be TIG all the way, with T6 heat treatment after welding. my frame design allows me to notch the tubes while CNCing the box sections.

i'm half the way through building the frame jig.

i had built a dual crown 10" travel suspension fork in 2001. using 6000 series aluminum. no damping whatsoever !! you can say it was a glorified pogo stick lol !

NICE!....I also plan on doing front forks (somewhat like avalanche racing DH8)..if i can... still trying to figure out the details. any help on that would be appreciated.

I'm currently working on a carbon frame project. i have figured out a way to mold Styrofoam using a die (CNC'ed) which will give me a monocoque frame.
Just waiting on the carbon fiber to arrive. i have rest of the items available for VARTM. Also, thinking on selling some frames/bikes once i perfect my technique.

sometimes i wish for an engineering background.

                          • Hello guys.
Its my first post here in this thread.

I used to ride bicycles a lot when i was in school, i was more of a stunter actually.
I am looking forward to buy a very nice stunt bike, had my eyes on Mongoose Fireball 26, but its way too expensive for me currently.

BMX is the second option i have, Schwinn and Mongoose one's available here doesn't seem to justify the price tag they have.
I've also heard that Firefox BMX isn't upto the mark.
Should i wait and increase the budget to go for the fireball 26, or grab a Firefox BMX (if available under 7k) ??

                            Or any other option ?
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

i think you should save up to get a better quality bike. its well worth it. if you go for a mountain bike, you can use it for commuting as well besides stunting, but with a bmx you can only do stunting, commuting on a bmx is kinda tough. so it depends on what you want to do. but go for the good brands, you wont regret it.

So that means i should save, and go for Mongoose fireball, right ?

Can you tell me how heavy it is ?
There's no detail about it online.
