The CBR has a charm of its own mate, so dont have that thought and anyways the Duke has not outdone CBR in performance, infact it is slower on all counts!!

Im saying this coz those figures are provided by Bajaj who will obviously pull down the competition in their claim...

CBR is no less a handler, and a tourer and also with a fab ride quality...

The only area of concern for CBR is its quality levels which is definitely 1 level below Duke/ R15/ Ninja!!

              1) Where did you learn photography?

              2) Will you teach me please?

P.S. Also the factory Add-On's seem to be very expensive. Or is it only me who sees it that way?

I hope I am right, if not please free to correct me.
thats what I figured . Thanks for clarifying.

                  A few queries:
                  - 10.5lt, is that the fuel tank capacity of the usable fuel volume?
                  - What's the front suspension travel amount?
                  - Is the rear mono adjustable?
                  - How did the front suspension felt? Hard/Soft (lets compare it with say, ZMA, 220, R15 and CBR250 - because I know how its on those bikes & not to start another comparison war).
                  - Provision to fix luggage via bungee, any hooks provided?
                  - Any info on the gear ratios?
                  - [The most imp Q], will the prospective buyers be allowed to get a test ride on this bike, "on road", before booking/buying it?

Thanks for a details review, you saved me from buying a print mag (go Green, oops this one is Orange).
want to add a few more important questions -
                  1. Was the bike tested for mileage?
                  2. What are the servicing costs going to be?
                  3. What is the expected cost of tires?

Yes the limited range will be a minor hindrance, but then again I don't think the bike is for "touring" on the boring arrow straight roads! Its more for riding on roads, where you doubt if it can be called a road in the first place!

Oh! I'd so love to replace my 220 with uber hot 200!

About the top speed-First and foremost our roads are not safe to do even 100 let alone 130 and above. My speeds normally vary between 80-100kmph depending on the road conditions and an occassional burst to 120 max.
You guys are not the only ones.. even I am planning for the 200D after life with the P220..!!

They indeed seems to be on the expensive side. I hope they justify the price of the accessories with the quality though

I have done a lot of interstate travelling on car and bike both, as a driver and as well as a passenger, but a big question for all the people who are arguing on TOP SPEED of the KTM 200
1.) Are our State and National Highways are capable enough to take cae of men and machines, leave aside the speed over 100km/hr
2.) Suppose we have a machine which can do 130-150 all day long and roads on which we can sustain that speed all over day but do we and others have that traffic sense to keep traffic moving at that speed?

I know top speed is one of the very important aspect for any bike but look at this at 138 km/hr is fasrer than R15, ZMR, P220, RE 500, so why are we cribbing and importantly this bike is any day much faster than any of the bike in reaching 135 km/hr....

So guys cheer up and start saving your money for this lovely machine.... Named KTM DUKE 200....

R15 V2 does 141 on the meter consistently, P220 does 145 on the meter consistently!!! Duke 200 doing 138 on the meter is any day a disappointment, no matter how much we cover up....

                        Happy Riding

                        • MG buddy, thanks for the reply.

Sunny bhai, which DSLR do you use for your photography and also how did you shoot the shot where the pic was take from crash guard(?) while the bike was moving

Might be OT : Just like the KTM factory photo tour you have given all of us, why not this time plan for Chankan factory and their R&D facility tour where new gen KTM / Pulsars are manufactured. Please Sunny bhai, feast the eyes of these two wheeler jingos. When we see how these are manufactured we shall be more intoxicated with this bike.

                            Hi Pravin

Top speed is also an imoprtant aspect of any speed machine, but how much and how quicly you acheive thats also important. Here in our country we hardly manage to cruise at a speed of 100km/hr so talking of 138 isnt it a good top speed for a bike just of 200cc and whose acceleration figures are just amazing......

For Top speed we shall wait for Duke 350 and other bikes which will be showcased in the coming auto expo 2012...

Anyhow, iam not hiding or even trying to hide the facts of top speed of duke 200, it is around 135km/hr and for me thats enough from a 200cc bike...

But would love to own a 350cc duke...

It is still not a substitute for my current ride. It's a good second bike from what I've been told from someone who has ridden it. It has its merits but it is not a replacement.

                              • Anyways, all this top speed talks prove that this bike is not for your typical Saddle-Sore Runs (Which, By the way, are illegal in our country) where even the much less powerful and probably less expensive R15 is a better tool (since it has a windshield which will help in maintaining high speeds for longer without getting fatigued due to continuous wind-blast).

That doesn't mean that people wont use it for Saddle sores. People do saddle sores even on P135. It just means that it is better optimized for the street as compared to say a Ninja/CBR/R15. In the same way, an R15 is better optimized for the track than a Duke/CBR/Ninja and can bring out better lap-times than what you would otherwise give it credit for.

Conclusion: If you want a fast bike <1.5lac on which your longest tour would be ~ 200-300km return and 90+% of usage will be in the city, look no further, Duke 200 IS the best bike.
If you want a fast bike <1.5lac and will use it to tour extensively, you need to choose as per preference from ZMA/ZMR/P220F/D200/R15/CBR.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
