The ABS unit is by BOSCH. Single-Channel ABS was developed for low-cost bikes.
I did some digging (since I work at BOSCH) , and found out that having an option of upgrading to full channel ABS was proposed to BAJAJ. Its very likely that the single-channel ABS unit used here was developed keeping in mind that it could be upgraded later. Also the SS400 will probably share a lot of parts with rs200 going by the pics from auto expo '14 . This could expain the presence of sensor rings and coil.

Very well written

Wow what a nice review now the wait for a TD. I went to our dealer here well they don't have the stock with them nor a display bike yet even though they say that they would get there lot with in a months time. Its a wait and watch show here. Probably the dealer is wanting time as he is not a pro biking dealer and as the old fi on a 220 had come which was nor a great success for the company I guess he is taking his own sweet time to get the bikes.

No issues a guy has already got a bike from Lucknow dealer and is on streets already as I was told by the sales man at bajaj. Plus a friend of mine confirmed the same a yellow color.

One question Old Fox : as you have already presented most of the things to us like we say the hitting the front breaks is dangerous that's the reason we use both front + rear. How was the feel, did you try this while you were on the tracks.

Thanks. As for your ABS related question - yes I did simulate panic stops from anywhere between 60 kph to about 110kph. The front ABS did cut in pretty effectively each time and I could feel the brake lever pulse under my fingers. The rear does lock up but since the front is rolling even while close to threshold braking the rider doesn't lose directional control and so the stops are in a straight line.

The ABS, even this single channel set up helps in two ways:

A life saver in low traction conditions when even an unskilled hand on the brake lever doesn't lead to wheel lock-up and the subsequent skid.

Allows even a rider with relatively lower skill levels to freely use the front brake without the fear of locking the front - something that requires a fair bit of skill and practice to avoid otherwise.
princesirohi - got a confirmation from Bajaj that the rev limiter cuts off at 11000 rpm even though the speedo red-line is marked at 9500 rpm.

And please - one more tiny little slant at any perverse humor in your post and you'll see an on-line door slam loudly shut on your face.

Oldfox sir, very nice review, one small question though, is it a practical bike for day to day use or as200 would be more practical?

Re: Very well written

Hmm. Suddenly the bike is not looking as hideous as it did before. This is how the brain works it seems or may be it's more the camera angles and the xbhp expertise in photography. The bike looks rather proportionate now. The lateral profile is good, much better than the front.
One thing which I like is the lack of space around the engine compartment. This makes faired bikes look emaciated and pretentious, at least to my mind. For instance the faired Gixxer has a puny engine leaving oodles of space allowing you to see through the bike from the side, this to me doesn't gel with the message a fairing is supposed to convey to the Indian junta: fairing means more powerful and serious bike.
In fact fared or not, a rather 'full' engine compartment looks better even for nakeds, the one aspect I liked about the NS, thanks to it's broad frame, more than the duke.
@Prince: No matter the weight and the little 'awkward' design, it will comfortably outsell the NS thanks to that dress which sadly you don't have.In India it has always been 'faired and lovely'

The review says the bike is the smoothest pulsar yet. So no NS like handle vibs at all? How refined is it as compared with the duke 200? Both of these bikes would now be sold at almost the same price, I am just wondering what would it do to the duke 200 sale numbers?

Re: Bajaj Pulsar RS200 Ridden and Reviewed

Had a brief test drive again in busy roads .
except handling to be very difficult and way lower than ns. I saved myself 2 times since I was riding it like a naked.
The 20kg addition shows a significant amount of toll on acceleration, as bike took a considerable amount of seconds to reach above 60 .
Overall very good fared bike. 1.30 lakh totally vasool if you are into fared
Otherwise practically city riding it cannot beat ns.

And yes ,very smooth ,but the nut bolt holding faring seemed typical and I will say expect rattling in some time .
Sent from the 0-60 in 3 sec machine.

Haha, looks like Bajaj had a lot of 200NS meter consoles left in the parts bin. I was looking at the 200RS parts catalog today and a lot of parts seem to come from the 200NS.

Off topic but what camera/lens combo did you use to take the pictures you posted in this thread?

Great review, booked mine some 10 days back and still awaiting delivery. Bike is only available at one dealership in Bhopal in the entire Madhya Pradesh, so can't even argue with the dealer to make the delivery quicker.

Is there any review of the AS 200 available? I was keen to know the improvements and changes between the RS (and/or AS) over the NS.

I saw the bike in flesh and was really impressed! It looks seriously good in flesh rather than pictures. If the 200 cc motor wasn't used by me to the hilt(I owned a Duke 200), I would have surely gone for it. Waiting for the CS400 now
