• Re: Biking Bloopers

Not a biking blooper per se, but a problem of sorts faced by someone who drives an automatic car when they are in the habit of manual car. The left foot hunts in vain for the clutch and sometimes ends up pushing the brake. Happened with me in a Captiva. Though my uncle had warned me significantly earlier, it did happen 3 times, but fortunately the left foot hit the brake pedal only once in the busy Aurangabad traffic.
I think manufacturers should start providing a phantom clutch lever especially in automatics having a manual mode because involuntary brake stomping may prove hazardous in any situation one can think of..

1. When I came to know that Duke 390 has an uncomfortable rear seat, I was like, "Fo'get that rear piece of leather, I'm single, Hell yeah! Who gives a damn about that rear as long as front seat is ok?"
And guess what? Now, I'm in need for an alternative more comfortable seat... You guys must have guessed what happened. So, choosing Duke 390 and meeting a potential partner just 4 months after that, is my first blooper related here...! This was rather quick & impulsive decision & now I suffer...

2. Now, the second blooper... was taking her... on a Duke 390 (!)... through the smallest and busiest street of my city (!) just for Shivratri prayers in a temple. I chose the Pulsar 180 at first, but the damn main stand was striking against the chain, God knows why that happened at last moment. Will check it later, I thought & took out the Duke despite my fears.

And my fears came true... Streets filled with people, too many of them and totally unresponsive to horns, like they're cattle or something!
Couldn't handle the bike at low speeds very well, plus the pillion to whom you can't even complain... The speeds went as low as 5 or even 3 kmph. That means I had to keep clutch pressed and the temperature started rising.

In the end the trip somehow completed, I went to the Mandir and everything went fine there... When I came back, and saw the meter of the Duke, I was in for a shock... See the below image:

Yes, that's right. A record breaking 4 kmpl of mileage...! I doubt anyone would've gone that low in the world on this bike atleast!
Now, I've seen 43 kmpl, as well as 4 kmpl. Man, going through this street was one hell of a blooper.
I suggest guys with big bikes to stay out of the some notorious city streets... It ain't easy handling all that.

1week ago I brought a 500ml tvs chain spray for 385₹ and lubed my bike's chain. Our servant seeing this, enquired about what this bottle does and I explained him in layman terms that it lubricates like we do with rusted joints, nuts etc. Explaining him that, I went off with my bike.
Later that evening I came back, saw him with the blue bottle of chain spray totally empty, annoyed like hell, enquired what he did with the spray (thinking in mind, he would've just put up the thin plastic extension and wasted my spray here and there in home)
Later He told me with extreme innocence , babuji (sir) ,I used this spray on all the bikes of locality. Now their chains won't also get rust.
(That day I saved his life by controlling that feeling of "Kill Him" inside me)

Buddy, that's just simple maths of the meter. It doesn't necessarily mean that 25 litres were consumed. Duke's meter just measures fuel consumption for the entire ride, and this updates ever 2-4 minutes or so.
Both these figures (L/ 100 kms: 25 and 4 kmpl) are basically saying the same thing, after measuring it for the entire ride, taking updates every few minutes.

PS: In a way, this mileage figure could've been expected. I hardly left the clutch lever properly during the entire ride, that too was 1st gear ride only.

Traveller01 Yeah, was praying for her and myself. Also, for the bike, hoping it wouldn't get tampered with while I was in the temple. Nothing happened to it, I found when I returned.

The console calculates FE after each 800 meters, actually you got around 15-16 Km/ltr. The same goes with Duke's console showing high FE, a figure of 60-70 Km/ltr actually means one is getting around 35 km/ltr. This happens because sometimes you go for 800 meters at 6th gear without holding the clutch even for once and the console would show over 50 km/ltr. Ride with the clutch pulled in for 800 meters and the console would show FE figures like that of yours.

BTW female pillions on a Duke is possible as long as she does not sit sideways, my personal opinion is that, sitting sideways should be discouraged as it it not a safe position to be on a two-wheeler. Oh, I almost forgot, congrats on finding your would-be life partner, ah, I mean your would-be boss

Ohh, just remembered one done by me.
Back in July, I had just brought Ns, it was my first bike and so, the love I showered upon it (and still) was limitless.
I used to clean it with polish everyday and wash it twice a week, even if it didn't needed it.
So once I was washing my love, and suddenly my phone rang, over there my friend yelling and telling to get my ass off to college as we had to sign sem forms and that was the last day.
I was in hurry so washed the bike in hurry, got dressed and came back to hop on bike.
But it was seriously wet.
So, as common law of stupid physics commanded, I stood on one side and started shaking my bike by holding just one side handlebar to and fro.(left and right) .
That was the day I felt 145 kgs very hard way.
Boom, after gaining some momentum in just 2 sec, bike went to opposite side, and as I was holding it with juST one hand and handlebar, was helplessly going down with it.
Bang, bike fell on stairs on its right side.
Result Broken mirror, a tight small dent just below 200ns written, and me literally crying as it had been just 6 days of purchase, and i managed to get scratches without turning on engine.
The biggest blooper.
Meanwhile, maa, who was watching all this through window, came out silently (silence before the storm) and said, beta press laadu. .? Woh bhi karle, jaldi shuk jaayegi. (Son, should I being the iron press. .? It'll dry much faster) .
And then the lecture/bashing/talk started.
Meanwhile my friend was cursing me as he was standing outside metro station and I had to pick him up.
He wasted 2 hours of his life in vain on a sideway, had to grab him a coke to cool him off.

Banned twice in 6 months..
Now waiting for the third one..!!

So yesterday I was walking around in the mall while waiting for a movie to begin.. I had picked up a new fone a cpl of weeks ago (the zenfone 5.. nice phone btw) and was thinking about putting on a screen-guard. Walked up to the stall where mobile accessories were being sold and whipped out my phone and asked that guy "bro do you have a crash guard for this phone ??" .. took me two embarrassing seconds to comprehend what i had just said..and was laughing my ass off along with my friend
