@Aryan: I have not logged into xBhp for the past few days. I missed all this. I am so very glad that you found your bike. And listening to your incident, I am scared about my bike which I have to park outside (no choice) everyday.
I think getting back the bike was the most important thing, so that 2800 bucks is not much to think about.

^ it is Pranay. ofcourse it looks small compared to the bike price and our passion for biking.
well, they got it from one police station to the other. petrol would cost say 200rs and chai-pani say another 100. why the extra 2.5k?BIKER ...the thrill and sense of self-fulfilment is obtained from living a little dangerously!

@Rohit: No, I haven't got the time to fix the bike. But, in most probability in a day or two she will be alright.
@Pranay: Yes, it is a scary proposition, isn't it? Just to think that one fine morning you get up, walk down just to find your baby missing! But, people like you and me who have outside parking cannot really do anything about it except securing the vehicle as much as possible from our end.
@Shadez: I really didn't think 'asking' them for a 'valid' reason why I needed to pay Rs.2,800/- would've been a good idea. Yes, I know I had to pay by my nose. I also know very well that it was more of an extortion than chaai-paani, but believe you me, once you see your lost machine standing in front of your eyes again, you'll forget everything else.:)

I dont think you did the right thing by paying for any "bribe". Such acts simply encourage more of such things in our already v corrupt society. You should have quietly and immediately reported the incident to the Anti Corruption Bureau at least...

Reporting to any higher authority and such is all good to hear and preach, but when it actually comes to 'act', many of us (including me) simply fail to do so.Originally posted by Raccoon View PostI dont think you did the right thing by paying for any "bribe". Dude, all this will sound extremely good from a 3rd person point of view. From a first person's view(as the affected) party this is least of the worries. Believe me, been there done that. The only thing that would immediately run in ur mind is "Thank God, I got my property back". This is the ground scenario and I DO NOT see it changing just because one person is doing it!Originally posted by Raccoon View PostAs long as people continue to being party to things like paying bribes, this cancer will continue. No use cribbing about it then. Nothing will change. In fact it will get worse.... mebbe they will be tempted to ask for bigger bribes...Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. Liberty is when the sheep has a gun.

@Aryan,
Good to hear that you got the bike back.
I have lived at places, where I have had interactions with bike theives, booth capturers, kidnappers an all
.... and trust me police is aware of the activities of each and every gang !!
They have to fill a requisite number of arrests, breakthrough in cases and thats when a random theft, kidnapping is solved !!
I am not berating the police here, and I know that given the resourse, infrastructure and remuneration they get, they do a commendable job. We have to look at both sides of the spectrum too !! In a booming ecomony, where we, the pple they are protecting, are getting lakhs of rupees as salary, they are still stuck at Rs 5000/- !!
Its basic human nature, and naturally they will be apathetic to solving crimes and will take bribes !!
On a different note though, its very intruiging what happens to a stolen vehicle !! I remember reading bout some international magazine which had left a tracked and marked Harley-Davidson to be stolen. And within two days the engine was watering a farm in Venenzuela !!Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!
Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!

@Sukant: Yes, I am absolutely sure they (the Police) knew about the machine's whereabouts, else I really doubt that based on only their 'credentials' and 'intelligence' they were able to track a stolen vehicle within 24 hours of reporting the theft!:)

Exactly what I was about to say to shadez.Originally posted by Aryan View Postbut believe you me, once you see your lost machine standing in front of your eyes again, you'll forget everything else.
@shadez: Brother, I understand money is very hard to earn. It is not something that just crops up for all of us. But in Aryan's situation, it was a small price to pay to get the bike back. Agreed he 'legally' was bound to pay nothing. But that is not the case in the real world. I left my 6020 in an auto. I called my number after realising it after walking a few steps. Only after 4-5 hours (probably after the guy's shift was over), the autowala picked up the phone and asked me to give him something in return. The guy was telling me to pay 1000 for it. But I somehow convinced him at 500. It felt like nothing becuz I got my phone, and most importantly all my contacts back.Last edited by pranay; 02-19-2009, 05:09 PM.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

How they find the bike within 24hrs.these guys have informants they choose a rowdy element and befriend them when these guys go on rampage the cops look the other way.for that these guys supply the cops with valuable information about everything that happens on the neighbourhood. Its actually saves the cops a lot of hard work.u may ask how i know this well i do cause...
.
@aryan the guys who took ur bike would have been beaten and the cops would have extorted a lot of moolah from them.and chased them away
.
U could park ur bike unlocked no element would dare to touch ur bike again
they would all know what happened to the gang that took ur bike

Nopes, I'v almost never done it. Perhaps the only time (long ago) I'v done it is for couple of minor traffic offences.Originally posted by kriss View Post@racoon : Please Dont tell me/us that u never bribed anyone in your lifetime...

And what is this about some one starting/leading? Just do it yourself... dont bother too much about what others are doing...
