Caught there, brother. Offence is an offence. There is no minor or major. If you did offer a bribe, and you don't want others to, that would mean you are a hypocrite. If you actually committed an offence and bribed, and you don't want others to offer money when they didn't commit an offence, well that's just...

I am not encouraging bribes here. I am just empathising with a fellow xBhpians joy when he found his stolen bike.

      • Nopes, there is a difference!

Firstly, I did mention that it was few years ago when I was a kid!!

Secondly, its a bit different when you are at fault. But imagine having to pay when you are not at fault. Now just for example's sake, imagine I did not commit any traffic office and was still caught and asked to pay! They is MUCH worse!! This would be like blackmail/extortion/etc/etc!!

And this is what the cops have done in this case - he had to pay for absolutely no fault of his! There is no way I would have payed up like that... not without creating some/lot of trouble for them.

          • Just got my P-200 back from the PBK service center. They have thouroughly checked the bike, and it actually feels BETTER than before! Strange!

I guess it's more psychological than real. Although I am still to get those RVMs installed, it becomes really impossible to ride without the RVMs! I had perhaps taken those for granted.

God damn! The feel of riding the P-200 after what seemed to be an eternity of chaos, depression, no-bike syndrome and what not is PHENOMENAL! Hell yeah, I am in love again. Also, got a couple of THICK chains and tied the beast. Well, that is what we can do from our sides at least.
            :)

            • guys.. lets take a chillpill. dont know why things flare up nowadays more.
we all do bribe. completely agree. its kinda now in our blood.
all i wanted to say was, in Aryan's case, lets not be 'happy' with giving the bribe. happy that the bike is back and the given amount is small enough. but lets not make the bribe part sink in...
              peace!

              • Guys .. i have been a silent reader soo far as i really did not know what to say...
but a couple of days ago i did a nandi hills trip(bangalore).

and have this incident to report that made me seriously think about the security of our bikes.

                it goes like this.

i went to nandi hills with a friend of mine on his 220.

we were in the hill section early in the morning at 4 with absolutely no light what so ever.

we stopped at a corner just to relax and got back on the bike to find the handle stuck to the left.
we had not taken the keys out of the bike and was surprised how the handle got locked.
we got our mobile lights and to our surprise the lock was missing !!!

it had come off and fallen into the fairing.
we had to pull it out and hang it out till we reached the top of the hills and find some real light to see what the problem.

we reached top and waited till the sun rose and had to do a temp fix to hold the lock in place.

we reached back to bangalore and headed to the nearest mech.

all he had to do was get a t spanner and 2 bolts !! . put his hand through the bottom of the fairing and fix it.

if its soo easy to fix .. its soo easy to remove.!!

2 nuts out and no more handle lock!!!

                5 mins job ..!!

                cheers
                Avin..

Lol! In fact, I'm gonna make it difficult for you...

A bike and a bicycle got stoken from our compund very recently. So I'v attached extra cable locks on both my bikes. One of them has "cross" keys... shown in the picture (see the keyhole). I was told they can't be duplicated.... don't know if thats really true though. The cable is quite thick too. The thickest I'v seen.

While this might not seem much, let me tell you about another recent experience. I had locked my Shogun with a cable lock (with ordinary keys... not "cross" keys as shown in the pic). The cable lock was around one of the rear shock absorbers and 2 sets of spokes.

I don't use the bike everyday... and one fine day I went down to unlock the bike, I discovered something very strange - there was no keyhole on the cable lock!! In the place of the keyhole, there was a gaping cylindrical hole!! Now how on earth did that happen?? It seemed very apparent that someone had gouged off the metal part of the plastic bodied cable lock, where the keyhole is placed. I have no idea how the thief did that. But I also discovered that now there was no way I could open the lock. It was stuck in the locked position with no keyhole!!! I had to get a locksmith to finally open the lock! Sorry, I didn't think of taking a picture before throwing the cable lock away.

I asked the locksmith several questions. One of which is how the thief could make a hole in such a strange way. He could not answer that... but he did say its not the work of a professional keymaker/locksmith. And a definite attempt was made to break the lock, but the thief did not succeed in opening it. He also said that bikes with older locks are much easier to steal, as the locks/keys wear each other down with repeated use (depends on the quality of the lock/key of course)... and this makes the lock easier to pick. He further said that the safest lock by far is the fork kinda lock which attaches to the front forks and front wheel. Even a pro locksmith would have a tough time with it. Chains, he said, are not half as safe as they seem. Besides they create scratches... which I can't accept.

I'm forced to believe that the lock that cost me around Rs. 100 sacrificed itself to save my beloved Shogun. The old handle lock would prolly not have offered too much resistance to the thief. In fact it seemed the thief never got beyond the cable lock... as the handle lock seemed untouched.

After this incidence, I bought another lock (shown in the pic), for my new bike. It seemed the strongest cable lock I could find in the market. I can only hope I have made things more difficult for anybody atttempting to steal my babies.

And I wish better cable locks are made available in the market... They will make life a bit more inconvenient for you; but one of these cheap devices might one day save your baby. That is if you don't want to install a fancy alarm, etc.

                      • @Absolutehavoc: I haven't installed AutoCop or any such security systems. I am very skeptical when it comes to anything electrical being installed. As of now, I use the handle lock, a fork lock and a couple of chains to secure my P-200 just before I retire for the day.

@Raccoon: Yes, using cable locks and fork locks are perhaps the two best options. Good to know that the attempt turned futile on the thief's part.

                        • ^^ why all that hassle man? The system comes made for Bajaj/Pulsar's mate. Their connectors are simple plug-play time with just minor work required for splicing a couple of places. The whole install takes nothing more than 10mins.

I've been using it for months now and no issues with the battery or electricals at all. Everythings fine. Trust me mate.. go for it. Its worth it for the low price of 1900/-

edit : ofcourse the install was done at Sai Service (Bajaj Authorised) and their mech's are trained on installing it.

This is why it all went hassle free and you can trust the system. I doubt the PBK guys here would do such a fitting, and I really don't want to visit a local mechanic to fit such an alarm system.

dude.. if Sai Service which is not a PBK center can do it.. then why cant PBK do it for you? Dont they offer it?
