  • It happens only in India

It is as close as a joke can get to make one laugh but what about when the following things are reality.

    Raipur capital of Chhattisgarh
    Formed on 1 Nov 2000
At those time Raipur had so less traffic that we didnt have any sort of Traffic signals, come 2001 and the population increase made traffic signals unavoidable and the city was so unplanned that widest road was also insufficient.

    This is what happened:
    1. Nobody whosover stops at the stop line most of the people stop on the Zebra crossing.
    2. The signal have different rules people from only one direction are moving, if one has to turn right than he doesnt have to around the square go from any side its your wish.
    3. Timer signals were there for only a month or two, now no timer signals.
    4. Helmets are not in the rule book.
    5. Most ridiculous of all, On any given railway crossing for local trains there is no attendent but the train stops and the train coductor closes and opens the gates.

One thing which i did when Chhattisgarh was going to be formed, the RTO office had few series of numbers left after them new series CG04 (Raipur) were going to start. I wanted registration number for my RXZ(Feb 04) MP 23 -- 25
But in all the series 25 no was already booked. My uncle had a good hold in RTO a special new series was introduced with only 25 numbers with my bike's number MP 23 NA 0025 and MP 23 NA 0001 for my cousins Splendor.

There are many things of this kind happen this thread can be used to post the same.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

The countdown timers on most signals in Kolkata begin from 360 - which indicates you to shut off your engine. You do that and again start when you see the counter at 010 , you are almost ready to go at 001 when you find the red light staying red and the counter starting again from 360 . Suddenly at 200 you find the green light on and vehicles behind you screeching their horns coz you are late. A split nanosecond.

If you are not accustomed to roads in Kolkata you will be confused big time. There are plenty of roads in prime areas that are two way from 10PM to 8AM. One way from 8AM to 1PM. Reverse way from 1PM to 10PM. If you unknowingly enter into it, from the wrong direction, be prepared for a big time harassment from the sergeants.

The public transport specially public buses in Kolkata runs on commission basis. That is the more the ticket sale the more commission. No wages for the driver and the conductor. As such often these buses race against each other to pick up people and tend to kill those on the roads. I have not seen such horrible races in any other city of India. If you are on a Kolkata road watch out for those buses (mini buses maroon colored with yellow stripe and normal buses blue colored with yellow stripe) and stay away from them. They do not care owing to the strong union that stand behind them in case of any accident or dispute. Govt. run buses have a wage system thus they never participate in races.

And for Kolkata the average width of roads is that of an highway utility road. Heck in North Kolkata, they really need air taxis.

                      +1

Especially when you compare Good Roads/Bad Road ratio! I din't find any Bad roads in Chd anywhere though!

But these super roads come with some of the toughest traffic cops that I have seen!

belandur and Agara signals at bangalore are the most un organized signals i have ever seen. Everybody jumps bellandur signal and ppl keep on blowing horn being dumb even though signal is red!

Agara signal has almost six diversions from one point, and its manned many times. Six diversions from one circle point with no circle is pouring rain in just one bowl. I have been to mumbai etc but i still feel traffic condition is worst in Bangalore. To add to above all the bus system is completely govt. and i never see a bus in bus lane rather there is no concept of one! bus is in 2 wheeler lane or car lane most of the times, you cannot even view signal in front of you. Signals are left or right, or low or too high you have to search for them!
