This happened to me last year in mumbai. I was driving with my wife. It was sunday and traffic was more relaxed. On a traffic signal, I stopped the car gently just before the zebra crossing lines and waited for lights to turn green.
Then I saw a traffic policeman marching towards me purposefully. I was wondering...now what? Instinctively I checked my lane, everything seems okay so I waited. The police knocked on my window and I lowered them with a bit of irritation. To my surprised, he shooked my hand and said, never in his entire career had he seen someone stopping before the zebra crossing lines. Everyone crosses the lines. He also said if everyone drives like me (ahem ) in mumbai, his life would be much easier.

I just went through the entire thread and apart for one post by KRISS, every other made me laugh my guts out.

Fasterthanthefastest was utmost hillarious, and so were few others like the one that said Fat Ladies= Cows, now that was RUDE, but still was funny.

I would not be using the word fortunately or unfortunately, but I guess, this all comes as a package of being in India. I am as proud Indian as any or all of my mates are, but that still doesn't make me turn blind to the things we are poor or bad at.Most of us dont have patience, road sense or courtesy in us, somethings that we as Indians are badly lacking at. Honking, rash riding/driving, jumping traffic signals, violating traffic laws, abusing fellow riders/ drivers is something that most of us including me are very proficient at. I appreciate Jasmeet's initiative of bringing this thread up. Lets take it as an eye opener and try to bring about a change.

xBhp is more than just offline G2Gs, Bike modifications, occasional & controlled stunting, photography, touring etc. its rather a platform where we all should try to atleast try to be sane and decent on roads. I would be very prudently saying that I need to improve a lot, on the way I behave on roads. Though I dont jump traffic lights, I dont stand beyond or on the Zebra crosing but I still most of the times be going above the speed limit, overtaking from the wrong side. I desperately need to improve, and so does most or all of us.

              All Cheers

                Funny incident.:
Once we where riding from Goa to Mumbai. Somewhere after Amboli ghat, we came across lot of herds of cow.
Just before a gang of cows & bulls, my friend decided to take a lead & went ahead on his avenger. He was honking to clear the way, and the group of animals was cleared. Suddenly, one bulls mood was screwed up, dunno why.? He came running, leaving the grass towards my friend, and hit him with its ass. My friend tried escaping, but his handle bar got hit & his middle finger was swollen like a tomato resulting this..

                  Me too.
I won't budge, if they honk continuously, I just turn around and give them a cold continuous stare. Believe me, it works most of the time.

And all the traffic guys can be a bit more active. Near my area, the traffic signals start to function with timers as early as 6AM.

We have a 90 seconds stop signal, and with very few vehicles on the road, people are forced to break the rules, which they continue for the rest of the day.

Believe me, I was stunned and dazed. My wife had to explain later what all happened .

Yeah, what you described never fails. But in this case, it was sunday and traffic was light at that point of time. Its not only in real estate where space are precious. Its in the traffic too. People would squeeze into every bit of available space.

BTW I travel to office by bike. Take the eastern exp highway. Read somewhere in xBhp, where someone joked about how in India, amber light means "Speed up, its going to turn red". This is no joke, it actually happens all the time. The highway has usually high speed traffic. I always have my hairs stand whenever I see light turn to amber. I know I'll be slowing down to stop, but I also know the traffic behind will be speeding up. I always try to stop at the extreme left whenever possible in such situation. Once, had one scooter missed me by inches and rammed a autorickshaw that way in front of me.

Once it happened that on the Highway a truck had hit a cow near a bridge, the Cows were angry or what they sat on the bridge in such a manner that not even a human being could pass that bridge it took more that 6 hours to clear them and the resulted traffic as it was the only way to enter the city. It all happened in front of me.
