      Bump.

Chennai is a bit better than most of the comments in this thread.

There are 2 things that irritate me the most.

      1. Lorries plying inside the city at high speeds 24 hours, even though they are allowed to enter the city only between 10 PM and 6 AM.
(There have been 3 deaths in as many accidents involving a bike and a lorry in the Velachery-Taramani road. Lorry hiting the bike from behind.)

      2. Cows lying in the road. You can live with 3 or 5 cows lying in the road, but 15-20 cows lying in the road along the median.. You give way to the masters and drive slowly past them (you never know when a lorry or MTC bus will blast their horn causing a terrified cow to mow down poor bikers.), after a KM or so, you meet the next gang of cows lying in the road.

From Tambaram to Medavakkam (a 9 KM stretch) one can count atleast 50+ cows lying in the road. This is not a one off, its been the same for almost a year now.

@Guys in Chennai: Are you aware of any means in which we can lodge a complaint to the corporation/authorities regarding this?

It would be good if we can do something about it.
Only in India the people and Customers are treated as a third rated soul.

Hyderabad has good and wide roads, but what causes the problem is the Bottlenecks at the end of these good and wide roads.

          Eg:

          1. Road No. 2 Banjara Hills, Nagarjuna cricle to LV Prasad Eye hospital. THere is a grave yard on both sides of the road, The road which is almost 40-50mts wide become 15-20mts wide, which causes the bottle neck, reledious places and graves in between the roads cause more problem. On the same road there is mosque which again causes the bottle nect.

This is common sight in hyderabad, where we find relegious places in mid of the road.

          2. Ameerpet Road, BIG Bazar to Panjagutta road, One more bottle nect with wide roads on either sides. And again Graveyard and mosque come on the sides. Graveyards are difficult to move but atleast relegious places can be moved, but this again become controversial things, so no one touched them and the vehicles have to suffer.

          3. Sanathnagar Bridge, This is the most controversial bridge ever build in hyderabad. It took almost 10years to complete construction becauses of various permissions and lack of integrity between Airport authorities, Railway authorities and Road authorities. This bridge goes over a railway track, and it is just 100mts away from Airport boundary wall lying perpendiluclar (So no illumination on the bridge, lights were setup only after ariport was moved to new one). Bridge is around 15mts wide...so even if a auto breaks down...whole road will be blocked for more than 200mts on both the sides. and the detour will add 7kms to the journey. Its not fault with the engineers...because when the bridge was started there was not much of traffic in hyderabad...and by the time bridge was open to public...hyderabad had grown enormously.

          4. Road near HITEC city railway station. Again the big wide roads blocked by bottle neck. Buses, trucks, cars and all have to pass through a small 20mts long tunnel which is just 10-12mts wide. If two heavy vehicle comes from opposite direction and had to pass through the tunnel at the same time....then we are badly struck. though there is another small off roadish type route to use incase of jams.

There are many such hotspots in hyderabad...and added to this the creative traffic sense people have here. Footpaths are usually used by vehicles and roads by pedestrains. pedestrains feels shame to used the foothpaths, and two-wheelers use footpath for elevated riding and to avoid the traffic.

And asusual....once the orange light is glowing on the traffic signal...all the schumi's behind start honking as if they need to set a new laptime.

Problem with Hyderabad road is City area: Road area ratio. Roads in hyderabad are very less. There arent many service roads for smaller vehicles to use. All kinds of vehicles have to pass trhough the same roads, hence leading to more causlaites.

Did you not over exaggerate ? I stay just before medavakkam and use that route atleast twice daily since the last one year.Never seen so many cows like you mentioned unless you are referring to very fat old ladies as cows which is not a good thing

No man I am not exaggerating.

I live near the oil mill bus stop (2 stops after medavakkam). I once counted 15 cows lying near the bus stop at Sembakkam. I too take the road twice daily, I mostly go by bus (have nothing to do but stare outside the window) and I swear I see atleast 30 cows on an average. The number has gone up for the past 2 months during this never ending rains.
Here are some places where you can look.

                1. Medavakkam to Puliyamaram bus stop. Atleast 15 cows.
                2. Just after the Medavakkam signal.
                3. From Medavakkam to Medavakkam koot road.
                4. Sembakkam.

I think you travel by bike, next time watch out on both sides of the road, especially along the median.

Oops, you are not in Chennai ATM

Today morning I counted 42 cows man. Was going to ask you if you had checked?

Three months back one of my friend from US, asked me 'Is it true that almost 40% of accidents in India happen due to livestocks roaming in the road' ?.
I was taken aback , I told him it was not the case, atleast not in the place where I live. From that day I had this habit of watching out for dogs, goats and cows in the road.

I was like , when I found that there are indeed many livestocks in our roads. I never remember seeing so many of them, until I looked out for them.

Atleast the road is well laid.

Incident 1: My colleague got a fractured hand when a cow, which was standstill until then decide to cross the road RUNNING !!. He lost balance and fell.

Incident 2: A cow on a median. There was a lorry coming in right lane. My uncle in his car (left lane). Lorry driver blows his horn (God knows why as the road was clear then) and freaks out the cow. It jumps from the median and on to the side where my uncles's car was coming, he luckily slowed down, but cow hits the driver side door and jams it .

Incident 3: Its about stray dogs. I spotted one dog in my area which is of like a spooky type and looks to bite (or tries to) bikers legs who tend to zoom past it with speed. Its not a mad dog though ! but its juz that some are like that. I once had to go through its territory and kept my legs up the crash guard juz the moment I passed it; and as expected it was chasing my bike when I crossed it (i think it has an inbuilt speedlimit check in its mind)

                        1. Once on my way to college, I was following an auto rickshaw and was trying to over take from rightside, gave him few honks, but his loud sound system didnt made anything to his ears. Then gave him the Desi Indian Treat in loud voice and within a second he gave the way. "Jab tak gali na do koi sunta hi nahi hai" - lesson of the time.

                        2. Similarly otherday i was on my way to office, again this time I was trying to overtake an autoricksaw from right side, gave him few honks and he started to move left side, while he was doing so, the rear right side wheel came off and ricksaw landed with big bang on road and tilted some 30 degree on right side, I was seeing all this in Matrix style slow motion, made some quick moves like Neel to safe guard myself, barely managed to overtake the ricksaw from right side, and then saw the wheel of ricksaw still rolling in front of me in zig zag fashion with no clue what will happen next, i some how managed to get on rigth side of the wheel and gave small kick to the wheel so that it fell down on road. This was one thing I could never forget.

                        3. Again following a autoricksaw in a narrow lane with some traffic, so there was no way to overtake, we were doing arround 30kms speed. All of a sudden the autoricksaw stopped. It stopped like a stone. its like 30 to 0 in 1 second. I could do nothing as i was just 2 feet behind, bang !!!! made a hard hit. Wasnt hurt, but front wheel alignment has gone for toss. Out of wonder and with full anger i parked the bike and went forward toward auto driver to ask if he had gone insane. When i reached the frontside, i found that the font wheel of the rickshaw landed up in drainage hole, which the autodriver could not see as he was following a car and it came in center of car while it crossed over. Thankfully there was no big vehicle at back, otherwise i would not have been sharing this today.

Yes there're few dogs that like to mark their territory & its only during certain times they do this. I've a dog in our neighbourhood that does this regularly only in the evenings, the same dog is like a doll in the morning. So on one evening, when it chased me, I hit the dog (not sure where it hit) with my boots leg. Trust me, it stopped chasing (atleast me) after that.

Dogs bark but once you threaten they never turn back to you(not with certain breeds such as doberman or grey hounds). IMO, cats are very dangerous, they don't bother you much, but, if you threaten, they'll scare the hell out of you (yes I mean the domestic cat & not the great cat)

My luck i was saved.
