  • Hi frenz.. This is Ketan here..
I've been following this thread since I joined Xbhp..

Now i need some serious help from you people and it's urgent...

Till date i've been using my Nokia N95 andmy brother's Canon SX100 IS for photography. I always liked photography and I being a hard core tourer, do take lotsa pics on my every ride/trip.

Now it seems my long wait for a good cam is over. I m planning to buy a good digi cam. One of my relatives has gone to UK for studies and m plannin to get one from there as it's cheaper over there as compared to India.

I myself am doing some research through internet - review web sites and blogs, but it's always better to get personal reviews than reading web sites.

I have short listed a few cams and it's very difficult for me to zero in on one of these.

Can you guys help me over it?

My prime concern is my budget. All the cams which I've listed below are definitely less than Rs. 17500/-(UK price)

Cams which I m interested are..

    1) Kodak easyshare Z1012 IS

    2) Kodak easyshare Z1015 IS

    3) Sony cybershot H10

    4) Nikon P80

Other two are also in consideration but they are a bit tough to get as they are well out of my budget.

    1) Sony cybershot H50

    2) Canon SX110 IS

Out of the 4 cams mentioned above.. I am more keen about Kodak Z1012 and Nikon P80.

By the celection of cams you must have noticed one thing n that's my interest is in Ultra zoom cams.

So can anyone suggest me which one out of the 4 should I go for? If there are any other models available n which are good in performance plz do suggest. If anyone owns any of these cams, their user reviews would be of gr8 help.

Also plz tell me what precautions should I take while buying a cam from UK..

    Thanx in advance..

    Ketan Nikharge.

          • @Ketan: Canon hardly bundles any substantial sized memory card with their cameras anyway (whether a digital or a D-SLR). As for the SX-10, one of my close friend uses it and he says it's a very good camera; he is loving it.

I'd suggest you spend the extra 3.5K you will have to spend on the H50 than a H10 and go for the H50.

Its an awesome camera. Look at some of the pics in this review, especially the zoom shots. Its just mindblowing!

hey i didnt know that buddy...
Though when my bro bought his SX100, he got a memory card along with the cam.. m not sure though...

                @ pranay..
You r right.. H50 is simply an awesome cam..
n bout those pics.. I've literally ripped apart steve's website for reviews n forums.. Those r just too good..
but those 3.5k are makin me sick..... let's see if i can manage it... Prob is i recently spent around 38k for a laptop.. that's y this tight budget..

But then i m investing money in cam for a long term use.. So it's worth extending those few extra bucks if m getting a good deal..

Thanx for the inputs though guys..
                Keep it updating..

By hook or crook, get the SX10IS. It is the best superzoom cameras avialable. Even the experts of DPREVIEW, DCRESOURCE are amazed by its versatality and amazing picture quality even with a mad 20x zoom. The camera is really feature-rich and highly versatile.

At 600 gms isn't the SX10 a tad too heavy?

                      • good side to side comparo, praful. I am looking for a camera around 20K in the near future. This will be a bookmarked page.

I am still inclined towards Sony though.

We are in the same boat!

Only difference is that fund collection for the cam is at Rs. 0 now

I've tried the Sony H50 and its pretty damn good, plus I'm used to a Sony. But the Oly looks very very tempting, but min. exposure time is only 1/2sec!!

But the specifications page HERE says that it has a shutter speed of 30 to 1/4000 seconds...

Bro, I said the min. exposure time is 1/2sec of the Olyumpus SP 590UZ!!!

Btw, you're right about the amazing macros from Canon, with min. focus distance of 0cm....!

Oops! I should've checked properly before posting. Sorry for that.

Yes, as far as macros go, I really feel Canon has the upper hand. The 'super macro' mode in the Canon digital cameras is just superb!
